I just wish braking didn't have to instantly force the car into a drift. I know its an arcade style game but it feels off when I can't even turn an easy corner without the fear of spinning out.
And actually it's often faster to not drift or only do it at a small angle. So you need to balance the car with the throttle and the brake and control your drift angle. It's the most important skill in this game imo, very difficult but so satisfying when you get it right.
Abit of a late reply but perhaps the reason why some might feel that way is that the steering response of Initial Unity was tuned to be instant and is barely dampened by controller inputs. Comparing to perhaps Forza, where whenever you steer, it takes time to transition to that steering angle. This kinda means that it's much easier to throw the car around in Initial Unity but it will be more unstable or on edge because of how abrupt the steering inputs can be, as it's easy to accidentally flick the car into oversteer.
Hopefully this will have customization too (a reason to keep playing and beating) Since this is unity damage model should be easy to implement, that way shingo moves wont be abused
Well we have plans for customization and an already working livery editor for the kickstarter version of the project(Touge Shakai). We had a damage model too with some mesh deformation, we may or may not add that too for TS. For Initial Unity, it'll be unlikely we'll add those but we'll probably see as we go.
@@Auranapse thats great to know, i have been working on a document about customization that i can share if nything it can give some ideas. In terms of casual players nfs u2/forza style is the best but i find that fine-tuning is important like in pro street.
I love this game to death, but I still find the handling to be a little weird, idk, maybe I became too used to games with a more realistic handling, but I still love this game!
I don't think I've qualified for that yet haha. I've only really done the full drivetrain from engine, gearbox to differential and the wheels. Haven't really explored wheel physics which I'll say is probably the more complex and most important part of car physics as it's the one physically moving the car and interacting with the road directly. I've skipped steps by using the Unity wheel collider but implementing the rest manually.
@@Auranapse Then sync seems really smooth, I guess if you only need to synd pos and rot for one vehicle all may be smooth out of the box, or did you try to optimize sync to the max? may be smoothing does the job good enough.
Well, I'm one of the devs haha. For this video we were connected directly through the lan mode. You can only really join people's lobbies if they are waiting in the lobby and have not started the race.
Ugh why can't the games just represent this? I hate the physics in the new ones not that they've ever been accurate lol But if Sega was closer to something like this? Ugh...so much better
I love how the 86 driver is just vibing and swinging his rear out while the Evo is making minimal angle slides.
Cuz evo isn’t a very drift car
evo is 4wd so countersteer is not a good idea

2:59 Why can I imagine ryouske going "In the downhill section of this course, the Fujiwara will show his full potential"
this game is so good you would have to come up with a new adjective to describe how good this game is.
And it's free
Bro this is beyond amazing 👍 u and august doing amazing work
Thank you! August worked really hard on it, and it wouldn't have existed without him xD
He did overtake the evo 3? Ok
those maneuvers are so clean; it's like the cars jumped straight out of the anime and into the game, amazing skills on the drivers' part
That wheel lift at 3:49 was the most Initial D style overtake Ive ever seen in a video game, period.
Just got the game today. In love! Looking forward to touge Shakai as well. Keep it up!
3:50 This is really HACKING TO THE GATE

its not bad if u got a steering wheel
now that's balancing matter, you'll get used to

1:03 VERY FAMIAR TO THAT SCENE WHERE KYOICHI DRIFTS TO RUN AWAY FROM THE AE86 IN SECOND STAGE
Yooo Kyoichi actually follows Takumi at first due to his "SIMULATION" rules. Then only he overtakes
Haha well we weren't going for a replication of that scene
Oh yeah, this is a Eurobeat edited steins gate op
Is that the dream unofficial initial d game that you imagined?
EPIC STREET RACE MOMENT
Even the lidless gutter work
Damn I miss this game. I think I still have the arcade cards somewhere.

It's the Steins Gate one. Hacking to the gate.

How did you make the car sounds so good? :))
It's mostly getting the right sound samples, and making use of pitch modulation in Unity :P
The sounds have been improved since this video though.
