This is most likely a student working alone on a fan game, it's purpose is for the creator to improve at development on unity. The "we" is a lost translation because plurals are typically not used in Japanese. Most of the assets in the game are borrowed from other games/mods and it would be a copyright nightmare (especially so if he's located in Japan) to get through, it would be very hard to release even as a free game.
I stumbled across Stakas channel a few years ago when only some videos where uploaded and think that he is in fact really doing this work for himself - atleast back then he did.
It even says, the assets are all taken from Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa modders. Tbh It might very well not even be unity but just assetto corsa with custom hud, custom shader patch etc which were all available back then.
@@virtual_GaRy Nah, definitely a unity game, the handling is way too different and the camera transition from 3rd person to 1st person is different too compared to Asetto Corsa
I've been following staka117 for a long while now. They've done Initial D stages as well. They really do a great job, I hope they end up making something in the end, I wanna support them.
they may end up fusing the maps and cars and shit, make something big. They aren't releasing it to the public because the map they used is lifted from an asseto corsa mod
since it was kind of a community effort to make this game maybe we could try contacting them with support, resources or money, to show other racing games the game we all want
8:15 "It's just you, and your Supra, versus two laps of the C1 outer loop. No objectives or opponents, just you and the car... And I still had a lot of fun." 8:00 "Something about the handling, the sounds, and of course the atmosphere just feels so right." These lines relates heavily with car guys 😌
This also perfectly describes how to make games: reduce everything you got the bare minimum and ask yourself "is it fun?" If the answer is "yes" you can build up on it.
Honestly I feel like the idea of this game is really neat. With the atmosphere heavily reminding me of wangan midnight. and how some scenes are just the noises of the cars barreling down the road.
I work on Unity since 2019, and i can say that this kind of projects doesn't surprise me a lot... With time and dedication, you can really do impressive projects with Unity, alone or with some people. Unity has sometimes saw its reputation tarnished by some shitty games made by people that just bought and slightly modified Unity Asset Store blueprints. But we have to remember that games like Hearthstone, Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Ori, Fall Guys, Escape from Tarkov... etc were made with Unity. Unity is a really great alternative to the very well renowned Unreal Engine.
Yea, I am not a dev I know a bit about modding and such but whatever, But unity gets a bad rap these days but its not a bad engine it just so happens to be widely known and easy to use. It does struggle with some things like physics and stuff as shown by Kerbal Space Program.
@@0Synergy For sure. It is easy to commit mistakes, it is easy to just asset-flip and ruin the reputation of it, but as a engine Unity is great, just depends on the effort you put on it
Unity is after all just a Tool. Games made with other engines can be just as bad as your typical unity asset flip trash. Unity games can be just as good as the Tripple A games made with other engines
Not to mention, Unreal Engine also has it's fair share of shitty games for the very same reasons. And people can't defend behind "it's harder to program cause C++" because that won't fly when visual scripting Blueprints provides means as long as a scripter has the patience to read the documentation of UE's libraries, the sky is the limit.
It's been a long time since i've encountered wangan midnight content. I used to play WMMT since 2014. The bridge you went on is the Rainbow Bridge going to Odaiba. And the long straight road that the bridge connected to is the Wangan itself...
Great coverage of Staka and his demo! I also hope that they and whoever they work with continue with what they have in some capacity. Even as small demos, I enjoyed both and they definitely show a lot of potential. For anyone interested in other similar fan-made games while they wait for the newest from Staka, I recommend checking out the Night Runners and Touge Attack projects. They also look promising and are fortunately currently being worked on. Even made it into the video at 7:13, which is cool and rad :)
I do have a copy of this game still on my hard drive. It's very early but graphically it's VERY impressive for a student project. I hope Staka can make a full on game.
This was from an arcade game in the late 90s. The arcade game consisted of a racing seat a full gated gear shifter complete with clutch and stainless ball shifter.. I raced this course several times as 240sx. The drive mode was night. Very difficult. Spent 40 bucks trying to get thru the first opponent.
That hidden exit leads to the Rainbow Bridge, which then leads to the (unfinished) Bayshore Route, aka the Wangan. Perhaps the devs were considering including the Bayshore...? In any case, if you want a very similar but much more polished (though still incomplete) experience, you can check out the Shutoko Revival Project for Assetto Corsa. It's incredible; 165 km of roads and an amazing vibe at night. There's also the upcoming game Night Runners, which is similar to the Tokyo Xtreme Racer/Shutoko Battle series in that it's an open world game set in Tokyo, near the bayshore, in the late '90s. As someone who grew up with TXR, I'm really excited to try it when it arrives (supposedly) later this year.
Not to take anything away from this developer, excellent work no doubt, but... the Shutoko Revival Project has completed the entire expressway, and is still in development for more detail. They have an entire team dedicated to this. Not sure if you've covered this before, but it's definitely worth a look and review, as it has been updated earlier this year. I have a vid showing a huge chunk of the map, with one starting from Tatsumi PA, going around the entire Inner and Outer C1, all the way to Shinjuku, and back.
@@theluckycatcollective8788 Revival project just ripped the highway from Wangan Midnight PS3, they don't own the highway model. The highway model is already ripped and freely out there on the internet. SRP just ported it to AC.

Which is kind of a perfect representation of the JDM tuner scene in Japan. Every car, and I mean _every fucking car_ you can think of, even Hiaces, have been tuned, or engine-swapped. One Hiace in particular had an engine swap with an R35.
Followed this project for a while afaik this is student project that turned into a fun project made in spare time. As per release it isn't and won't be possible due to licencing issue of using 3rd party assets which is huge time consuming thing to do by yourself without getting copyright striked by big company, and copyright system in Japan is much more strict, risky and in case of infringement expensive and comes with serious consequences not limited to only financial ones hence why no public mods that use 3rd party mods without proper licences be it freeware or paid software.
I play Maximum Tune 5DX at the arcade all the time! I'd love to see a full game in this quality. I'm sure if they were to do a Patreon or similar, they'd get the support they need. I know I'd pay!
@@LolmgGaming The only reason I play 5DX is because I have nothing at home PC-wise that can emulate, and the arcade is only 15 minutes away. I'm up for playing more versions, though!
I used to watch staka117's videos including this one in your video I'm watching right now, even before you upload it and I saw on my notifications. And this game in question was a pretty decent example of full capability using the Unity engine and I do love Wangan Midnight and TXR.
hi, arcade gamer here. i go play at arcades very often, and usually mostly arcades that have imported japanese games (because japanese arcade games are just better). this means i am familiar with both Initial D and Wangan Midnight Tune. i havent played the games myself but ive watched people play on it plenty. very polished arcade game, has a system where you can race against friends online, save your scores and save unlocked cars, all via a card system (there is a scanner on the machine). i assume the developer worked on cloning Wangan Midnight and Initial D because when the pandemic was at its worst, arcades all across japan were closed and the playerbase for Initial D and Wangan Midnight were unable to play the game. as is with all arcade games that have a card account feature like Wangan and Initial D, there will naturally be a "clone" that can emulate the game, but on your home pc. this is the case for other japanese arcade games, like Dance Dance Revolution's clone Stepmania, CHUNITHM's clone SeaUrchin, and many others.
There is a cool indie project for a game called Touge Attack which features some really impressive mechanics from the gameplay trailer. I highly recommend that u guys check it out
He did release the wangan c1 for a minute but after a while he changed the description and removed it I still have it somewhere I only really played it once
This was a great project, its a shame the market is small for these types of racing games. You should check out Highway Warriors 2 if you like the Wangan type racing games.
This looks pretty good demo considering it is made by one person in part time, it's just amazing the man is really hard worker, btw awesome video thanks for covering this hidden gem.
It was actually made by one student. At some point he also had a download link for the game and only had 1 car that you could race with. I am not sure if the download link is still up or not.
i would recommend translating software like DeepL translation for a tad higher accuracy instead of gl. but anyhow, the project looks promising even when it's not entirely for public publish.
its basically a 1-1 copy to 5dx or 6's hud, (6 because 5dx doesnt have a minimap above the timer) you can actually emulate the actual arcade games but for reasons of namco doing things similar to what nintendo does, i cant share names directly, but search engines are your friend. (ive played wmmt6 at a arcade in the nearest city before the pandemic, and yes i still have the banapassport card that features both the devil z and the blackbird (( a nissan fairlady z s30 and a porsche 911, (or a ruf or gemballa equivalent because licensing) respectively ))
@@generic6099 oh wow someone actually replied after year🤣i do actually play some of those emulators (whose names will not be named for legal reasons) and i do also have a few stacked banapassports with cars over 900hp in them, but damn do i still want more games like this to be made, especially with car culture on the rise in mainstream media.
i remember hearing about this guy when he made the initial d series, i stuck around until he released something that caught my eye. A public download for the C1 Loop game that i lucky enough to snatch. After a week or so the download got taken down so it was more of a first come first serve sorta thing, needless to say, the game didn’t disappoint, although it’s very simple.
Kind of a shame that Genki wont make a new Shutokou Battle, so we can stop relying on fan projects. And if they ever do, Crave needs to release it in the US. Having Konami and Ubisoft release the last TXR games under generic names probably didn't help the series. I literally passed ITC for years, thinking it was some generic Fast and Furious trash, until one day I randomly looked the back of the case. Also if you want to check out some real life Shuto, I have some vids on my channel where I went to Japan, and rented an Evo 6 from Omoshiro, and did the Shuto. Here's one: ruclips.net/video/hFwKM7Dq5Ko/видео.html
if you want more, like he stated its based on assetto corsas shuto revival project. you should check that out ;) you just gotta find their discord server. aditionally this guys initial D unity game is also up on his discord. very much based on the ac touge community but with much more acessable handling for those without a wheel.
Tokyo Xtreme Racing are the games that are available to play in the west that come close to this with the last game released under the name Import Tuner Challange .
Maybe check out a game called "highway warriors 2" its something quite new and is meant to be a spiritual successor of txr as of right now a demo has been released and the game looks promising You should totally check it out👍
Oh boy i remember this one, i download and it was fun to drive, at the time this look so promising, still have both copies the one with the Supra and the one with Fairlady Z\240Z. I really wish they continued with the project
Very nice video! I myself stream and upload videos of the arcade game. I always wondered how much your recommendations changed and what you saw 😂 It’s crazy how outdated even the newest of systems from namco really are. They could do so much better.
You can find the demo on the community tab of creators channel, third post (the one with dasboard - with over 300 posts in discussion) and look for comment by Mohammad Alizade...
This is literally just the official Wangan Midnight arcade games (which are actually called Wangan Midnight) but being remade in Unity, my local arcade actually has a 2 player cabinet of the game this is being based on
@@killajames07 if you really want to beat it I suggest emulating it on a PC and getting an ISO of a gameshark, that way you can beat the childhood frustration!
I spent 4 years stationed in Japan, and I hit up the local Initial D 8 infinity machine almost every weekend. I would absolutely love to see a similar game on PC as I've never been able to get an emulator to work and there's no way for me to play it now.
There is actually another build of this game floating around where you get the blue Fairlady Z, that one is on my machine somewhere but I am unsure which build is newer though the Z one or Supra.
There was a small window of time he made a download public for this, I actually still have it installed on my computer currently I believe, I dont have a memory of deleting it so it should be on there somewhere, if anyones interested maybe I can make an upload somewhere.
1:34 I'm pretty sure you intentionally picked that SPECIFIC bit of footage as the segue, not just because it was relevant, but also because of the fact that _one of the players is just straight-up using a 2004 Toyota Hiace Super GL,_ and this is knowing your penchant for adding out of context, yet related clips into your own videos. If that's the case, I love it to death XDDD
It looks like a Japanese arcade game called (midnight maximum tune 6 RR) Look that up on RUclips and there’s a couple short some people playing it at an arcade cabinet
Huh...that extra section is the Shinkanjo route off the Daiba turnoff. If the dev is true and this is the Assetto Corsa map, that author must've ripped it out of Import Tuner Challenge (I say ITC and not TXR purely for the graphics). Neat
Midnight Club Los Angeles is an incomplete game. The boxy Volkswagen got an RB26 in it while the skyline got the Volkswagen's sound and engine in it. I just can't... I'm shocked no one spoke out
For anyone wondering, a person named “Mohammad alizad” uploaded a link to the modded version on a comment on the third community post on staka’s channel
I mean, I get why game-developers dont want to make another Wangan Midnight title, hence the ViDeO GaMeS aRe BaD-type of prejudice, however... people want another highway/wangan-racer... Also, the map itself, Shuto Revival is a mix map between WMMT5dx and Wangan Midnight on PS3, so basically a Bandai asset, hence why its so "complicated" to download SRP for AC in the first place compared to every other map
Doing some reverse engineering work, I found that there's more stuff programmed than actually can be seen on the demo. There's also a GTR R32 hidden with AI on it, new cars can be added as mods from some paths inside game directory, vehicle can be changed from RWD to FWD or AWD, time attack, drift mode, suspension configuration, respawn, replay actions and record, and more, and a lot of hidden map.
Also did you know that the wangan track/ map is actually from Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune Arcade games by Bandai Namco. Because the track looks like combines from Wangan, C1 Area, New Belt Line Area, Shibuya, etc.
wangan midnight racing arcade game is in round 1 it's actually pretty fun a similar game to this is on pc called fast beat loop Racer GT is cost 10 bucks it's on steam
I remember playing this back when it released, still have it on my HDD, it was a bit jarring because the handling feels completely different to WMMT this game is based on, maybe closer to WM PS3 but it was a fun thing to test out for a bit
Someone sponsor this guy,He has a lot of potential and talent....in my opiniom he could make a very fun to play game with great and enjoyable graphics.
This could likely be one of his final year projects (or something like it) from a university he could attend under game development. Seeing how most of the descriptions is towards making progress report etc. but damn this is a project I would like to be a part of
Oh man been playing since WMMT3DX+. Lots of memories of going to the arcade after high school just to battle it out for cosmetics. Not to mention the trading of cars with "not allowed" names to claim as ours from 3DX. I still remember some Hong Kong arcades have 3DX+... but they're dying out. The pandemic hit and many arcades were relegated history too
I remember actually playing the game because of this RUclipsr that showed people how to download which I up. But all the much to it but it was still fun to drive around on a new game.
It would be an extemly popular project if it came out earlier, now the asseto shutoko revival project does everything you would want from thing like this, there are even full ai trafic servers lately

its basically a 1-1 copy to 5dx or 6's hud, (6 because 5dx doesnt have a minimap above the timer)
you can actually emulate the actual arcade games but for reasons of namco doing things similar to what nintendo does, i cant share names directly, but search engines are your friend.
Let's be honest, a part of the experience feels empty without that upbeat Wangan soundtrack
i remember hearing about this guy when he made the initial d series, i stuck around until he released something that caught my eye.
Here's one:
ruclips.net/video/hFwKM7Dq5Ko/видео.html
i play that arcade game on local arcade station for months, good ol memories
5:33 my 730 wont let me
Man I was obsessed with Tokyo Extreme Racer on Dreamcast! I loved how intense it could be.
Bro legendary game !!
Same!!!
The fact that you use RUclips in Dark Mode like I do, confused the hell out of me for a while!
found the demo in like 10 minutes, came with a blue datsun 240z. such an amazing built game
Wow! Luckyy
Assetto Corsa’s Shutoku Revival Project is also an amazing amateur developer effort
Give it a look!
Getting late 90's early 00's retro vibes from this game.
That's because it's based on that time... lol
I remember seeing clips of this game before! Cool to hear it's origins! Thanks for making this! 😊👍
I think we all here saw that video, and all lost it after time from our recommendations
if you want more, like he stated its based on assetto corsas shuto revival project.
you should check that out ;) you just gotta find their discord server.
aditionally this guys initial D unity game is also up on his discord. very much based on the ac touge community but with much more acessable handling for those without a wheel.
How lucky i am to get suggested by youtube for your video this early
Same, and i found the download link too
Can I have the link
@@Qusalad where ?
@@Qusalad me to 😉
I do really want to play this kind of game aside Forza and NFS. There is something soothing driving in high speed in narrow highway.
4:22 Can someone please tell me the name of the track?
“Assoluto” is a game thats still up on the ios app store that has the C1 loop in it. Mad TXR feel in that game too.
Tokyo Xtreme Racing are the games that are available to play in the west that come close to this with the last game released under the name Import Tuner Challange .
Maybe check out a game called "highway warriors 2"
its something quite new and is meant to be a spiritual successor of txr
as of right now a demo has been released and the game looks promising
You should totally check it out👍
Oh boy i remember this one, i download and it was fun to drive, at the time this look so promising, still have both copies the one with the Supra and the one with Fairlady Z\240Z. I really wish they continued with the project
Very nice video! I myself stream and upload videos of the arcade game. I always wondered how much your recommendations changed and what you saw 😂
It’s crazy how outdated even the newest of systems from namco really are. They could do so much better.
You can find the demo on the community tab of creators channel, third post (the one with dasboard - with over 300 posts in discussion) and look for comment by Mohammad Alizade...
Thanks!
What do you mean "despite looking like this"? it looks exactly like a Unity game.
This is literally just the official Wangan Midnight arcade games (which are actually called Wangan Midnight) but being remade in Unity, my local arcade actually has a 2 player cabinet of the game this is being based on
Hey!!! It's Staka's work! Cant believe this got featured here!
I have played this at my friends place, the gameplay was pretty solid.
Congratulations for hitting 20k subscribers Eden!
The camera looks so much better than most other professional racing games
I'm so obsessed with Wangan myself, currently trying to beat the entire Tokyo Xtreme Racer 0 in an AE86. Too easy in TX3
Dang that's sick only wangan game ive played is street supremacy on the psp and import tuner challenge on the xbox 360
@@zunzoku ive emulated both of those! Great fun! I wish ITC was a bit harder
I can't beat tx3 since I don't have a GameShark
@@killajames07 if you really want to beat it I suggest emulating it on a PC and getting an ISO of a gameshark, that way you can beat the childhood frustration!
Now imagine if someone make this a full game
I spent 4 years stationed in Japan, and I hit up the local Initial D 8 infinity machine almost every weekend. I would absolutely love to see a similar game on PC as I've never been able to get an emulator to work and there's no way for me to play it now.
Midnight wangan was one good game, both pc and arcade, literally my childhood.
watching this brings back some really good times
There is actually another build of this game floating around where you get the blue Fairlady Z, that one is on my machine somewhere but I am unsure which build is newer though the Z one or Supra.
Awesome video, man! Thank you
There was a small window of time he made a download public for this, I actually still have it installed on my computer currently I believe, I dont have a memory of deleting it so it should be on there somewhere, if anyones interested maybe I can make an upload somewhere.
please
Looks a lot like Import Tuner Challenge on the Xbox 360. It was actually a Tokyo Xtreme Racer game.
Now this an arcade game that we can all agree on...
That grid autosport music is still the best auto racing OST ever made.
I remember playing maximum tune in singapore a few years ago, crazy fun game
It looks like a Japanese arcade game called (midnight maximum tune 6 RR) Look that up on RUclips and there’s a couple short some people playing it at an arcade cabinet
No its also on asia too
Huh...that extra section is the Shinkanjo route off the Daiba turnoff.
I think this is in arcades around me, so I think I'm good to play for a while
Also did you know that the wangan track/ map is actually from Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune Arcade games by Bandai Namco. Because the track looks like combines from Wangan, C1 Area, New Belt Line Area, Shibuya, etc.
nope its actually from wangan midnight ps3
The long straight of the extra part of the map would be Wangan highway.
Funny, I had the same type of stuff recomendend, but in the case what I saw where ppl racing eachother like in the inicial d games
I remember playing Wangan Midnight at the arcade.
Can you share the link to the demo with us or we have to search it on our own?
I beat a maximum tune champion once. Love this game, but upset that we don't have the current version in the US. We just got WMMT5DX....
wangan midnight racing arcade game is in round 1 it's actually pretty fun a similar game to this is on pc called fast beat loop Racer GT is cost 10 bucks it's on steam
i mean... you could boot up Shutoko Revival Project and get the same treat... but i guess you need a wheel to fully enjoy it
I remember playing this back when it released, still have it on my HDD, it was a bit jarring because the handling feels completely different to WMMT this game is based on, maybe closer to WM PS3 but it was a fun thing to test out for a bit
The pandemic hit and many arcades were relegated history too
This is insane! These devs have potential to compete with the likes of EA, Ubisoft and Rockstar.
so if this game was released for a bit, there has to be someone that uploaded this game
I remember actually playing the game because of this RUclipsr that showed people how to download which I up. But all the much to it but it was still fun to drive around on a new game.
I played way too much Maximum Tune back in college because the arcade center was close to campus. Watching this made me miss playing it.
Man, if the source code were to be published, this would take off into oblivion.
It would be an extemly popular project if it came out earlier, now the asseto shutoko revival project does everything you would want from thing like this, there are even full ai trafic servers lately
While you’re looking at obscure racing games, check out Cross The Ridge R. It’s a doujin touge racing game, basically what you get when you put IDAS through a blender.
ever heard of night runners it is a wangan and jdm game that is coming out soon
