Just watched this. Utterly heartbreaking. But these therapists are remarkable. Truly remarkable. They have such insights and great strategies for depression. The suicide thought as a emotional relief is very accurate analysis. Really good show.

It's good, just be prepared to be frustrated with some of them lol. I watched it because I had a psych stay once and was curious to see the workers' side of things.

I have experienced suicide in my Grandmother my Uncle, and my Son I'm not sure how much more I can take, but I want people to understand the devastating effects of suicide on the survivors.

I’m sorry for your losses. I think that mental health needs to be addressed more in this country and we also have to change the narrative about mental health!!!

@@africanbella28 thank you. There were 3 Psychiatrists in my former small city. They wanted between $360-$500 for an initial session then $250 every few months for a 10 min medication checkup. But wait! Most don't take insurance and don't take new patients. They are also terrified of using effective medications because they're potentially addictive, which hardly matters when you're talking about life & death.

Very good, but revealing: this unit offers short-term behavioral therapy, fine in the short run, but not great for probing issues in depth or teaching long-range survival skills. Our whole mental health system is like this now: get ‘em in, get ‘em out. Not for the patients’ sake, but because it’s cheaper. Ten days can be intense and beneficial, but does it stick? Many patients were repeat visitors, going home to the same situations they left. The staff’s frustration is obvious: they want to do more, but there’s barely time to stick the band-aids on and flip the bed. That’s truly tragic: some of these people won’t survive their next attempt.

I'm almost done with the 2nd part and there is a pt who OD'd just so that her Father would feel guilty, didn't understand why her parents wanted her to work because she "doesn't need to, they support [her]". She is monotone and in denial about so much. She also said nobody else in the unit is as "with it" as her. I think she needs much more help than this unit is giving her, regarding her delusional beliefs about herself and her manipulative behaviors.

The cinematography is painful to watch. Zoomed in blurry shots of nothing. Great series despite the camera work.

One thing I noticed about many of the patients is that their maturity level was very low. Jane in particular was very immature and self-absorbed. Maybe the parents should force them to get a job, provide for themselves, and not give in to the drama.

More loneliness, depression, and mental illness these days. The amount of people placed in these environments is going to go waaaaay up, as well as suicide rates

They all had in common: isolated even though surrounded by people, otherness, feeling like a stranger. They all expressed this.

Did anyone else find it very triggering to see all of the staff masked and not the patient? I did. That is really fouled up .
