Watch the movie again. In the beginning when he wakes up and is getting ready to leave he puts ona a belt with a bear on it. This was forshadowing but not very subtle. Great movie though.
You see at the beginning of the movie, Marsh wears a belt with a bear on it - his own spirit animal, in a way. He goes on to explain that he saw the bear on fire, charging past him. “It was the most beautiful and terrifying thing I’ve ever seen.” The way I see it, it was a foreshadow of the events that would unfold the very next day. The bear running past him represents all the things in his life that he missed out on - having kids with Amanda, having a family, retiring and living his life. The horror was that this was it, the end. Marsh, along with the other hotshots, would die in the fire, leaving behind countless grieving families. The beauty was that at least he would be dying alongside his brothers.

Did Eric marsh actually have this dream/vision? Or is it just a Hollywood extra scene?
