As a Haitian who of course knows about the Haitian revolution and the brutality that occurred, I couldn't help but think about the revolution when I heard about Hamas' actions on Oct 7th. The actions of the Haitian revolutionaries and Hamas while both brutal and wrong have to be put in the context of the oppression that they've faced. For my ancestors it was slavery and atrocities that come along with it, for the Palestinians it is the occupation where they are forced from their homes and made into second class citizens.
Well put, Jocelyn. History repeats itself. I hope the Palestinians become just as successful as the Haitians.
@@user-od1qw8qp1u Successful? In the 1960's to the 80's they had a "president for life" that had death squads and committed genocide on it's people. Every time I try and point this out in the comments GDF deletes the comment.
@@NotSageMan Then why do Jews have way less Levantine DNA than Palestinians? You're talking about complexion when Israel has some of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world.
Yeah ok, but they are at least not dominated by a foreign power, which more or less equally mistreats and dominates its subjects. Once you are free as a people you yourself decide your future. I hope my argument is comprehensible.@@mobucks555

What do you think of the hungarian fight for freedom from the USSR in the revolution of 1956?
The USSR should not have gotten involved.@@wtice4632
@@wtice4632 You should look up what the leaders of that revolt were doing just over a decade earlier. Isn't it odd that so many of these anticommunists just happened to be part of the Ustace, direct collaborators with the Germans?
@@wtice4632 Hungary has a right to national self-determination which was limited by the revisionist USSR. The revolt was justified although I do not agree with the main ideology the Hungarians followed.
@@klyk69 Also good to remember that the Hungarian Revolution '56 was also bolstered primarily by former collaborators from the prisons. The Hungarian left got caught between a rock and a hard place, unfortunately...
The french colony on Hispanola had (if I'm not mistaken) one of the highest death rates among the slave population. Brazil also had incredible casualty rates. Wonder if GDF will cover the slave revolts down there, and the fact that Brazil imported slaves into the late 1880s
Remember they had the former portuguese king down in their territory for a considerable amount of time, and all of that was possible because the brazilian civilians themselves had important friendly ties with his administration. Even if the time he spent down there was not much; the fact that he was allowed and received in a welcoming way AT ALL (in stark constrast to what happened to most colonies during that time) shows how they had inherited (or had succesfully been imposed of) the traditions and mindset of their colonizators; and deeply embedded in the higher classes to allow for such event to take place. In fact, some brazilians still boast TO THIS DAY that they supposedly had "an empire" when the king was living down here.
@@snnn2535 i mean the empire was less corrupt and the emperor was against slavery but the majority of the people even the peasants was in favor and the empire of brazil was brought down by slave oners with no support from the population no one knew of the coup and then we had 2 our 3 dictatorships with asians like the japanese used as slaves even the republic used japanese as slaves and now we have a president who was in prison for corruption like the majority of the goverment

A very rare victory of slaves over the European captors. The exact thing Hollywood would make into a movie with the happiest ending possible. But that wasn't the case in reality; instead, Haiti was ostracised by the whole world (no doubt the big players got scared of the rebellion), was obliged to pay an astronomical debt to the French for "reparations", which combined with other factors destroyed the economy and the country hasn't recovered to this day, which wasn't helped by its awful geographical position. And the cruelest irony of all is despite being built on a slaves rebellion and the first country created by former slaves, it's plagued by human trafficking. I feel so sorry for the Haitians.
Not to mention the multiple US invasions of Haiti since
Even without the debt they would still be eating dirt cookies like they do today. See Liberia
Yup then the Haitians took their country back, elected a president who committed genocide on his own people, under no influence by "European captors"

This really applies to Oct 7th. Except that Hamas mostly targeted military and though civilians were killed it was not the target or goal. And now as we find out more about Israel killing Israeli Jewish civilians we dont actually have a full idea of what really happened. Hamas, Islamic Jihad and random people and gangs all came through the wall from Gaza into Israel Oct 7th. So it looks like in fact Hamas was quite tame compared to the Haiti slave revolts.
Imaging having a concert outside the world's largest open air prison.
That's like if the SS had a dance party outside of a concentration camp.
We also have to remember the diaper forced used tanks in heavily populated areas too
I used to compare the two uprisings especially they had some religious aspects to unify the rebels but the haitians saw french are fighting this war as war of race so they did the same as they were doing to them
I also wonder how many of those civilians had guns and rifles on them
we can only hope to know the truth if the ICJ rules in favor of making an investigation

The woke justification for terrorists is a false comparison. Palestinians were offered a two state solution multiple times but Hamas chose the path of genocide because they claim is "their" land.
@@BSenta in 1949, Ben-Gurion told his cabinet, as paraphrased by British-Israeli historian Avi Shlaim: “With the passage of time, the world would get used to Israel’s existing borders, and forget about U.N. borders and the U.N. idea of an independent Palestinian state.”
Here's all the times when Israel rejected a two-state solution:
- Lausanne Conference
- 1976 UN draft resolution
- The Taba Summit
- The Arab Peace Plan
- The Olmert Offer
- Lost opportunities with Hamas (1997, 2004)
Amos Malka, one-time head of Israeli military intelligence, explained it straightforwardly in 2004. “It is possible to reach an agreement,” he said under the following conditions: a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital and sovereignty on the Temple Mount; 97 percent of the West Bank plus exchanges of territory in the ratio of 1:1 with respect to the remaining territory; some kind of formula that includes the acknowledgement of Israel’s responsibility for the refugee problem and a willingness to accept 20,000-30,000 refugees.”

>Haiti's first head of state Jean-Jacques Dessalines called Polish people "the White Negroes of Europe", which was then regarded a great honour, as it meant brotherhood between Poles and Haitians. About 160 years later, in the mid-20th century, François Duvalier, the president of Haiti who was known for his black nationalist and Pan-African views, used the same concept of "European white Negroes" while referring to Polish people and glorifying their patriotism.
Because of the mess that was happening in Europe, Napoleon had at his disposal Polish Legions, which were sent to Haiti in 1802. After meeting their "enemies", after learning the story, good part switched sides and joined the Haitians. Many more basically refused participation. Details are certainly lost to history, but being spared from the reprisals etc. (as there are descendants still alive today) seems to confirm it.

@GDFofficial there's an interesting topic for you. The Algerian revolution against the french. France has committed a genocide in Algeria killing about 6.5 to 7 million algerians in total between 1830 and 1962. The revolution happened between 1954 and 1962, it took 8 years, 1.5 million Algerians massacred for the war to end.
The amount of battles you can cover from that war (and revolution specifically) is ridiculous. There's a movie called the battle of algiers in black and white, a classic, it'll give u insight on how algerians used milkbar bombings and other street techniques to fight the french.
As for massacres, they're endless, for example the massacre of 1945 after the end of ww2 where france betrayed their promise to algerians (who fought with them) and instead of giving them freedom, they armed settlers to the teeth and killed 45 000 algerians in Setif, Galma and kharata.
I'm really looking forward to your work about the subject, if you accept to engage. It really is interesting.

So that they can capitalize on the slave trade 😂
Great video, I can tell a lot of research went into this, although one thing that’s important to note is that there’s more to be said about the role Napoleon played in the story. Everything said about Napoleon in the video is true, but it didn’t tell the complete story. Yes he did attempt to reconquer Haiti and reinstate slavery and was likely racist on some level as were many others of the time, but he didn’t necessarily do it just because he was racist. He was facing a lot of pressure from the French aristocracy that managed to survive the revolution. Napoleon was fighting a lot of wars at the time, and wars are very expensive, many of these people were financially supporting him and were former slave owners and they knew the insane profits that came from slavery, Napoleon probably tried to reinstall slavery out of an act of desperation to be able to continue to fund the constant wars France was being forced to fight and endure the survival of his nation. Not saying that that justifies his actions at all, that just is likely one of the reasons behind it. That’s what the book the Black Jacobins said that was referenced in the video, I read a few years back it was a really great book, didn’t necessarily focus on the fighting aspect too much but talked a great deal about Toussaint and the story of the revolution as a whole. The book also mentioned that later in his life Napoleon admitted that trying to retake Haiti was a huge mistake and that he should’ve just let Toussaint rule the island for him.

Next video should be about how haiti got so good at feeding its own citizens
The reason that Haiti has struggled financially ever since its inception is due primarily to the immense economic pressure placed on it by the global north and their allies. Their ability to feed their country is contingent upon whether or not more powerful nations that wish to exploit Haiti think it's in their best interest to allow this to happen, but they don't. They would rather have Haiti be vulnerable and weak because this way they think this gives them an advantage.

But do you condemn the Haitians?
I think it’s kind of like the “The troubles” war where both parties did bad stuff
Would YOU spare the people that enslaved you for over 200 years, separated you from and raped your wives, sons and daughters (sometimes even rape you!), tortured you and people like you mercilessly day in and day out, stripped you of your dignity and humanity, relegated you to the status of furniture, profited off your labor for those 200 years, freed you for a few years then brought you back into servitude (the french republic emancipated the slaves, then a few years later napoleon reinstated slavery), were openly talking about genociding you (rochambeau or leclerc were planning on executing every male slave over the age of 12 to "start afresh"), and numerous other atrocities? And considering that the french later came back to expropriate "reparations" for the supposed damages caused by breaking the chains, with threat of violence, do you really think that they were to be trusted amd that they would've had acted any different had the french on the island been spared? I'd go as far as to say that every french person that was left on the island was complicit in the 200 years of slavery and shared the guilt, and it wasn't a racial thing: poles and germans were spared from the massacre and were even granted haitian citizenship, which allowed them to own property on the island. Put yourself in slaves' shoes. Does anyone guilty of such horrible crimes as the type of enslavement that happened on haiti deserve any sort of clemency? Id argue they'd deserve at the very very least life imprisonment for this crime against humanity
@@RickNockI don't know if you've noticed, but revolution isn't a tea party.
