  • A while back, I built a 1:5 scale model of a Hawker Typhoon. When it came time to choose a colour scheme, I came across "Pulverizer II". With a name like that, I decided right away that this would be it. Some research revealed that Pulverizer II (along with I, III, and IV) was flown by a Canadian pilot in 440Sqn, F/Lt Harry Hardy. It also looked like Harry was still alive and living in the Vancouver area. So I found an address in the phone book, wrote a letter and enclosed some photos. After some time, a received a letter back, and it was indeed the correct Harry Hardy, and he was still alive and well! What's more, he is coming to Vancouver Island at the end of May, and would I please fly my model for him? Would I! So I put a flight on the model, and it performed very well. It was a real honour and privilege to meet the man and fly this model for him. After the flight, there was a reception at the site of a full scale Typhoon restoration project. www.typhoonlega... Harry gave a short talk on some of his wartime experiences, which I have recorded here. By the way, the camera was perched on top of a Napier Sabre engine!
