My thoughts exactly 8caulfield. Cusack is a comic genius in this well scripted, well acted, well directed sleeper. I just watched it again last night for the umpteenth time. So many great scenes. The madman hitchhiker scene is one of my all time favorite movie scenes. This movie is sort of like the prequel to When Harry met Sally. Very similar plots. I think Reiner knew he was on to something with The Sure Thing and wanted to remake it to appeal to a wider audience.

I agree with Jeff Gates....I saw this movie in the theatres in May of 1985 and have been in love with it ever since....it is definitely on my Top 20 list....without a doubt the best teen comedy ever written

Jason is actually a little more feisty and less meek than might be expected. He really starts to wonder what she was doing with Gib, and despite the glasses he looks capable of squaring off with the latter if necessary.
This movie is one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time......it is that good

It's interesting that this film usually isn't listed in his filmography. I liked it and thought he was funny and his character did the right thing in the end.
John Cusack chooses his roles well. He didn't get struck in the teen movie genre, but forged on to amazing roles. A true artist.

Actually, this movie is about what you should do (which is right) not what you are supposed to do. Never seen a better movie. A really big John Cusack fan. Watch the other movies from the 80´s.

The biggest problem though is that we have this stunning beautiful, bikini clad blonde in the form of Nicollette Sheridan who apparently can’t get a guy on her own and needs to be ‘set-up’ on a date, which makes no sense. The scenes showing her walking around all alone at a party are absurd because in reality just about every guy in the room would be showing her some attention and she would have no reason to waiting around for an average guy like Cusack to come by to date here.
Good points but many good, even outstanding films have such improbable plot contrivances. Like the "letters of transit" in "Casablanca"...
Except that she doesn’t see the world the way you do and wants to rescue a boy. That’s clearly explained the film. Picking up drunken lowlife at a frat party isn’t for anyone.
In the next scene of the movie after this video clip ends there's another song that comes on when he and the girl are talking in Lance's room but before it shifts to the scene of Alison and Jason talking in bed. what in the world is the name of this song?? it sounds like an awesome bass guitar riff, beat, and then the lead guitar comes in.
