    Really good info. I live in Australia & I can't grow them because where I live it's too hot & we get a hot east wind so they get desiccated. You have the perfect situation, out in the open, cool with a dusting of snow possibly. I've been to Tasmania where they grow, if you're a fan it's a must do!

      That's makes more sense, my only suggestion is to run a micro irrigation straight into the crown and run it for an hour in the morning and an hour in the late afternoon. I use this here at a weekend property as the owners work in London. If that doesn't work then I guess it's a no for growing them. Simon

    The growing season will start in few weeks (I'm in Dublin) and as I got a new DA I was wondering which Miracle Gro you're using? Can we use any Miracle Gro or is there one better in particular ?
    Thanks 😊

      Hi Thibault, they do package it in a few different ways, and of course, you can get Miracid, which is another good product. I use the green box with the bag or bags of soluble blue crystals inside. It's the original and best. They don't pay me to say that, and phosotrogen soluble white crystals is also a good substitute. I hope that helps. Simon

    How do you over winter yours? I've got one similar size to yours, do you keep yours outside covered with fleece or straw at the top?

      Hi Lindley and thank you for your comment. I will tie the fronds up into a spike and double fleece to about a 30cm below the crown. I will be doing a video on this when the time comes. However the further north you go the more protection you need to give.

    Does the same apply with smaller tree ferns with no real trunk. Mines small with a small ball as a base. I'm in the uk

      Hi there, that is a good question which i didn't cover. That will depend on where you live. Where I am I start feeding as soon as the new fronds start to emerge and finish sometime in October or November depending on the weather. Kind regards Simon

    Hi does the same apply with small tree ferns?

    • @walkingtalkinggardeners
      @walkingtalkinggardeners  5 месяцев назад

      No, treat as regular ferns until you get a decent trunk. Kind regards Simon

    Does it matter on size of the trunk on how much you feed it ?

    • @walkingtalkinggardeners
      @walkingtalkinggardeners  Год назад

      The larger the trunk the more water and subsequently fertiliser required. Unfortunately, I don't have an exact formula to give. I base it on what I covered in the videos, and stop the feed once it begins to seep from the trunk.
