I listened to this story on a podcast. This year I had a doe in my sights. I laid down for a probe shot. And noticed my pack pushing on my head, and my head was forward. You saved me a scar to match yours, and saved a does life! 😁
Incredible experience sounded like that dog was on top of you. Thank you for your management efforts! I joined the F4WM this year and am thrilled to be a part of it. I live in Utah but want to plan some Idaho trips to partake in the management.
That's a Great way to put it Tom, they gotta be managed fer sure! You also did a Great job turnin him from a Bad Wolf to a Good Wolf, GOOD AND DEAD! Great shot!
I located a pack on the last day of the Montana season around the Troy area, and the wolves dug up a black bear hibernating and ate it. That's the first time I've ever seen something like that before
There's a lot of wolves out that way. There's a pack in Thompson falls that would howl at us daily when we worked on a cell tower on the mountain outside of town.
Great job, thank you!! Definitely one of my bucket list animals. I'm a coyote hunter and these are coyotes on major steroids! So beautiful, majestic and smart as a whip. They are survivors
@@johnbarker2033 they are native, and ranchers/hunters fabricate reasons to kill wolves. if you look at the statistics man kills more wildlife than wolves do. wolves kill for sustenance to keep the pack healthy and well fed including their pups. they also keep disease down. if you read his description, he said the wolves wipe out the wildlife no they actually don't man kills more elk, moose, and deer, among other wildlife then wolves do in a years' time. Wolf are ridiculously hard to hunt, I was surprised. When the one was letting you get so close but maybe it knew you had no chance of seeing it in all those elders. Wolf are like every other animal. It needs to be managed, probably needs it more so than the others. They’ll consume the population of Deer, Elk and Moose if that’s in there area. I’d say as hunters we respect all of the game we hunt.
Beautiful wolf. Lol I have to admit that lady being named Tana is hilarious. My son is 4 years old when he was 3 he found a stuffed animal snake and named him Tana the snake. It is his favorite toy that he brings everywhere with him. And he tells everyone that will listen about his toy snake Tana. 😂😂😂😂😂.
Great job Tom. I did the same thing when I took my wife bear hunting. Left my gun dialed up after target practice and she missed a black bear at 150 yards. She always reminds me about it😂
Your brother needs to reset the turrets there. Ouch Tom. That looked bad. I bet that bled a lot. Seems like you get injured every once in a while out in the field. My brother works with a guy that choked on an elk diaphragm call. It was one with the metal on it. He had a bull elk about 200 yards away and he was trying to sneak up on the elk. I guess the guy tripped on a log and the elk call got lodged in his throat. He choked on it for a few minutes then somehow he was able to get it down. He was 2 miles up a trail so took him a little while to get to his truck. He drove himself to the hospital. They scoped this stomach and it had already passed into the small intestine. The doctor said he would pass it. Eventually he did. He’s a luck guy. Nice wolf Tom! Thanks for sharing. Take care, see ya :)
Just watching this scared me haha your ballsy for going out there even with a gun I don’t know if Id be in that thick brush with a rifle out. That scope hit made you look like a warrior lol
As a wolf trapper here in Idaho, I too don't hate wolves. We as hunters need to do our part to manage the predators around us in our forests. I actually feel blessed to have the opportunity to pursue them. I spend a lot of time in the woods and if we can keep their numbers below 1000 the woods does well with moose, elk and deer and wolves.
Another great adventure Tom! I'm local with you too and am always running into out of state plated vehicles when hunting. Seems like it's increasing every year but maybe I'm just noticing more. Fish and Game supposedly limits non-resident tags but you wouldn't know that hunting any public land in Boundary County. I'm not against good sportsman legally doing what the outdoors has to offer, but we get our share of knuckle heads, often out-of-staters, littering and doing other stupid things.
Respect the land, animals, hunters and most importantly yourself! Stay safe but please pick up your camp, everything you brought you take! Simple safe and responsible!!
I was shooting prone with my pack on still, pushing my head forward towards the scope. I was rushing the shot, knowing that the wolf wasn't going to stand around for much longer. Thank you.
I support predator management. Despite what the antis would have you believe, wolf productivity is quite high and killing one out of a pack won’t do much to “save” other species. Need to get the whole pack. Good work though. Hope to get one myself some day.
How could he not hear you walking up to him?? It seemed soooo loud walking thru the brush but maybe it was the microphone that made it seem louder. On the original , first stalk I mean. Within 10 yards!!! Freakin awesome!!
The wolf knew he was there, thus the challenge barks and huffs. He was in a good spot though so he stayed holed up in the thicket warning him to stay out of his yard.
@@SaneAsylum ohhh no shit?!!! That makes it even cooler lol. I live in Florida so I know nothing about wolf hunting but man do I enjoy watching it!!! The ultimate predator!!! I can't imagine having a big ass wolf howling barking and huffing at me from 10 yards away!! Incredible
