    We often picnic on Mt. Pollux after the regular first Sunday singing when the weather's good. Amherst Chinese supplied the chopsticks. Cameos by Luka, Anja and Buford Klownski. Shot by Sheldron.

    I love your fiddle playing in this song. My wonderful great-grandpa passed away when I was in the 6th grade. I am now close to 60 and still remember his playing. This sounds so much like his style that I can listen and listen to it. He never had the fiddle sticks, though I think my great uncle played the spoons sometimes on the porch. Thank you so very much for this. It brings back such loving memories. He was my favorite relative and he left me his fiddle.

    Very nice stuff. My workshop here in Vienna is called "Fiddlesticks". Of course, "fiddlesticks" originally meant "violin bows".

    Does the tune have a name or were you improvising?

    I haven't seen anyone hold a violin/fiddle like that until today. Saw a couple of other fiddlers play like this. Could someone tell me what is the benefit of playing this way, or why they play this way? Is it easier to shred in this position? I'm really curious.

    • @DymoonCR
      @DymoonCR 9 лет назад

      Julianna Pence i was about to say that he plays like that just for the fiddlestick's guy, but then i realised he always play like that so maybe is the fact that he feels more comfortable playing like that and he got used

    • @helenhighwater5313
      @helenhighwater5313 9 лет назад

      Julianna Pence Spence Galloway, a Missouri fiddler, holds the fiddle that way. I've seen a few others as well, not sure how that method came about.

    • @eightapeach2861
      @eightapeach2861 9 лет назад +3

      A lot of old time fiddlers held the fiddle this way because it was easier to sing while playing and not having a fiddle under your chin.

    • @bisbonian1183
      @bisbonian1183 9 лет назад

      +Julianna Pence It also gets the fiddle farther away from your ear. The fiddle can be VERY LOUD right up next to your face, and this takes some of the edge off.

    • @kmacgregor6361
      @kmacgregor6361 8 лет назад

      A lot of fiddle players play in this position which is possible because for fiddle music you often play exclusively in first position, which allows you to support the violin with your hand. For classical violin playing, you're shifting and using the whole fingerboard, up higher than just the hand position he's using here, and you can't use your hand to support the violin because you have to be able to move it quickly.
