Man the band's who would play up and down the east coast back in the day.....Pixies, Buffalo Tom, The Smithereens, Throwing Muses, The Lemonheads, and of course the very talented Mark Mulkahy and Miracle Legion (who at the time I thought sounded a little too much like R.E.M......sorry Mark). I was super spoiled in my club hopping late teens early 20's. Watching this takes me in the way back machine to a time where drinks were cheap and the music was (pardon my french) fucking awesome! Thanks for not only the incredible memories but also for this beautiful music!
It's also the only time, I think, he's used the "Space and time have grown quite wide" towards the end. For a while there he was changing it up every other performance. but this is the only time I heard that one.
The Amazing Ric Gratz let me sleep in his driveway in Blacksburg at the Not Shakespeare house and here he is all these years later being famous and everything. Winter Hours USA 1986.
The music at that time was a culmination of punk rock and pop music. So many great bands from America to the U.K, Australia. It reminds me of The Go-Betweens, but it all does because they are all cut from the same cloth.
This really brings back the feeling of how exciting miracle legion was live. I went to see them at the Wetlands right around this time and it was mesmerizing!
You may not get they views you deserve but know that the people that do view you appreciate you (I missed you while you where in Arcata, come back around please)
People who say they imitated REM got it wrong, it was the opposite. Plus, MM’s vocals more resemble Van Morrison if anything at all. He’s definitely his own person up there on stage.
The lack of 'likes' proves that this is real
why do more people not celebrate this insanely gorgeously real music?
Because the vast majority of humanity lacks any sort of depth😢
Oh Gawd! Those shows back then at the QE2! It was all so magical. I will hold it dearly forever. Thank you so much!
Classic I can still remember the words after 30+ years. Gorgeous tune.
Same. 1985.
Me and my older brother only found this band a couple years ago but have both absolutely fallen in love with them.
Today is my first day.
First heard in 1985. Took a semester in DC with a kid who was a college DJ in Connecticut. Good then, good now.

And the Feelies
Saw em all too man!!! In Albany, Providence, etc..
Mircale Legion > REM ... and I love REM.
this is a really really great song, but this performance is something very very special
It sounds so raw. Get goosebumps when I hear this live version.
It's also the only time, I think, he's used the "Space and time have grown quite wide" towards the end. For a while there he was changing it up every other performance. but this is the only time I heard that one.
His voice is so fucking good
So glad someone was there with a video camera.
...there is a long way to go before we can rest.
Wow, vintage live Legion! This is beautiful.
The Amazing Ric Gratz let me sleep in his driveway in Blacksburg at the Not Shakespeare house and here he is all these years later being famous and everything.
Winter Hours USA 1986.
It's all for the best.
This is it, the best live song ever.
I’m on my third in a row listen...louder each time.
The music at that time was a culmination of punk rock and pop music. So many great bands from America to the U.K, Australia. It reminds me of The Go-Betweens, but it all does because they are all cut from the same cloth.
This is one of my 10 ten songs of all time, if not #1. Thanks for this.
the more i try
the more i cry
Mark, thank you, really, im alive now.
Like a gift! Thank you.
Agreed it is like a gift, brings me back to a very happy place and time. Wicked music.....love it!
Smelting into life ...thanks guys. This is juicy ....I’m a spider a tiger and and...a fly
Just heard this song in episode 1 of The Imposters on Netflix. Hadn't heard it in 30 years.
Unbelievably wonderful. Many thanks for posting this.
I got to see this band blossom from their beginning (as a college DJ)... I even got to interview Mulcahy back in 1989-91 (era)?
This really brings back the feeling of how exciting miracle legion was live. I went to see them at the Wetlands right around this time and it was mesmerizing!
The song is crazy wonderful and the sound is wonderfully crazy!
Simple but beautiful voice. It’s perfect.
And early 10k maniacs, the connells, cowboy junkies, dump truck, dinosaur Jr., and the local Big Barn Burning
The momentum builds and builds. What a great one camera capture. Time capsule.
I mean this is just Fucking phenomenal
this is fucking incredible. Your music is something else
Still here in 2022
You may not get they views you deserve but know that the people that do view you appreciate you (I missed you while you where in Arcata, come back around please)

Pretty amazing live band; I never understood why they never took off like REM.
I've heard it was poor marketing.
are those guitars full hollow es330 or semihollow es335?
Thom Yorke brought me here
Welcome to The Legion Paulo!
Listening to College radio in New England in the 80’s brought me here. Mark Mulcahy is one of the greats of any era or genre.
Do you know when approximately the shows were?
It was October 2, 1996 at Mercury Lounge, NYC
You can Download the show for #BandCampFriday over at: miraclelegion.bandcamp.com/album/this-is-not-an-exit-live-at-the-mercury-lounge
