- Restoring a tired old garden bench using pallet wood.
This bench has been slowly rotting away in our garden for years, and I thought it was about time to bring it back to life.

It's always good to restore pieces from the past of their class and character or the item.
this is giving me the inspiration to tackle the restoration of an outdoor bench that belonged to my Mum that passed away a couple of weeks ago. I want to make it something she would be proud of :-)
So sad. Very sweet idea. Condolences and peace. Wishing you a Happy New Year 🕊
I’ve got a very similar bench hidden away in a small flower bed next to the house that I’ve been putting off replacing the rotten slats on. Thanks for the awesome reminder!
Man you're the coolest, I just love the fact that you exist!
Thanks :)
I rescued the frames for one of these from a hedge they had been used to patch a hole years ago, and been sitting my my garage ever since. This has given me some motivation to do something with them.
Jason, thank you. I love watching your channel. When the world gets crazy I come here for some peace and rest.
Thanks Daniel. Glad you're enjoying it :)
Tighten the bolts on the vise so you don't uproot it from the table.
A special brand of magic, as usual. Thanks!
Thanks for the comments, Joe.
It's not the bolts that are loose, it's a very weak bench. Going to be rebuilding it over winter :)
Right out of the gate are fireworks for the fourth❤️ thanks for letting us hang out with you.
Thanks Susan :)
Also the banjo, sounds so sad, like the tears, of what, was. Now lost forever
A man who never wastes wood. You've been doing more colorful things lately. I wonder if those are just bright summer feelings or maybe something good happened :)
Trying to vary things a bit :)
He probably bought too much paint.
Splendiferous! Waste not want not. 👍🏼🥰
Thanks Moira :)
Anyone else notice how he saved the old nasty boards? 😂
He’ll probably build something amazing out of them.
I have an old ornate cast iron ashtray stand that I got covered in rust. Cleaned it all up and painted it gold. Some of this stuff is worth the time, you just can't buy it anymore. Nice job. 👍
Turned out a lovely addition to your garden. I think a corresponding side table to put your cups of tea on should be next.
Good idea :)
I love the soft, pastel paint. That bench must have been so tedious! You must be a man of great patience!
That color scheme was killer.
Thanks :)
Even the crappy old wood gets saved. My hat is off to you sir.
Thanks :)
How fun and cheerful!
Lovely restoration, Thankyou 😊 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Thanks Jackie :)
I love this! Looks brand new and perfect in your garden.
That came out beautifully.
Thank you :)
From goth to unicorn-themed bench. It is very satisfying to watch and leaves me wanting to make one.
Very cool!
That bench will be here a 1000 years time. Love the colors. Congratulation another incredible save.
Thanks very much, Erika :)
Nice job and a pleasure to watch, thank you.👍
Thanks Christopher :)
From a disreputable looking item on its way to the landfill, you have made a beautiful and whimsical piece of outdoor furniture. It looks so much more delicate with the new color scheme!
Thank you. It's still going strong, just needs a new coat of varnish.
If I didn't see the restoration in this video, I wouldn't believe this was the same chair! Excellent work.
Thanks :)
even just watching the start of this has been useful. I'll watch the rest later after work this week. Very useful, thank you.
Fantastic job!
BRILLIANT JOB.
Thanks Michael :)
You turned a meh 😑 looking tired bench into a wow 😮 that’s lovely rainbow 🌈 bench. I love 💓 it.
Thanks Louise :)
A job that's actually on my list. Thanks for the tutorial, that stronger central brace is an excellent tip. I might have to make two [positioned at the thirds] for more strength, as my bench will need to withstand grandchildren punishment!
Thanks Keith :)
It's ALIVE! Well, it isn't a building project but that old bench is now nice and as good as new. Great!
Thanks :)
Amazing. I'm not only impressed by your wood and metalwork skills, but the fact you have 2 garages for just doing all these things in! I have one, and it's filled with stuff, no room to move.
So cute!!! 💜💜💜
Thanks :)
What a coincidence! I pulled the ends from a very similar bench out of a skip last week. I've got some old hardwood window sills that I was going to cut up for the seat. Couldn't decide whether to oil it or paint it. Think I might go for painting it now 😁
Adds a bit of extra colour to the garden :)
Paint gun as a sand blaster.. Brilliant!
good job Kevin!
Love your work. Thank you.
Thanks very much :)
I had one of those rickety garden benches back in the 1980's. What an improvement on the design, with both color and structure. Great restoration! I wouldn't mind having one again if it looked that good. Nice job!
Thanks very much, Lesa :)
Beautiful 👍👍👍 . Thanks for sharing
Thank you :)
Very beautiful piece! Awesome!
Thanks Mario :)
Beautiful. thank you for sharing
Thanks Melicoy :)
Perfect 👏
Fantastic refurb, mate! 👍🏾
Thanks Bill :)
I love those pastel colours. Perfect in a garden. My old bench like that needs redoing. This gives me ideas.
It has certainly added a bit of colour to ours.
Is this the only restoration video on your channel? Generally you are starting from scratch with pallets and/or planks that need more than a bit of love. Either way, I find your work fascinating to watch. I think my favorite part is after you spend what seems like forever perfecting a single piece of the furniture or whatever, you look it over like, “glad that is done “, then the next frame shows a stack of completed ones just as perfect as the first. Patience is definitely something you have in abundance. Thanks for sharing your skills and creativity with us.
By the way, I love your ever present blue striped socks!
I love your comments, Jean. Yes, this is the only restoration I've done. I usually start from scratch.
real nice,I have an old bench like that, thanks.
Thanks Fred :)
Outstanding video!! Don't take this the wrong way...but I could watch you work all day!! I'm very poetic too!!
Thanks George :)
That turned out so very lovely! Certainly an invitation to sit down for a bit and just take it all in. :)
Thanks :)

Thanks. Enjoy the Band Saw. Certainly one of my most useful tools :)
too nice to put back outside!
I've got the exact same bench I'm about to restore, it was my mothers, hopefully it turns out as nice.

It's so satisfying and calming to watch. Always waiting for the next project. You're doing some beautiful work here, thx for that :)
Thanks very much, Sheila :)
I've done this so many times, although I am blessed to have a supply of old oak from old church pews. Very satisfying job, well done!
Thanks Alan :)
Another home run! You sir are a steely-eyed pallet wood engineer!
Thanks Chris :)
Beautiful..loved it..
I'm sure you'll find a good use for the old wood. Amazing natural patina on those boards.
Already got plans for it :)
Very nice work !! My personal taste is tour eiffel color for metal and black wood 👍☺
👍 = es gibt nichts mehr zu sagen! Alles perfekt!
Thanks :)

Love that bench, a real beachy look. Great job with the paint colors....
Thanks very much, Sherrie :)
Great tip using the sawdust and glue, heard about it but never seen it done.Cheers 😎
Thanks :)
You are such a wonderful craftsman, I’m so glad you didn’t just paint the bench in black, instead used beautiful pastel colours. The end result is so beautiful, you must be so proud of this project. Thank you so much for sharing 👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks Elaine. The bench was a lot of fun to do :)
I've never seen a bench with lion heads. I like them.
Your videos serve as benchmark for other builders, I´m sure..... ;-)
😀
Awesome 👍
Thanks :)
Amazing job!!🤩🤩
Thanks Angela :)
That white paint job on the iron brokey heart.
Thanks Much! Nice save and restoration. Darn good on the vice bending...bravo! Love the pastels again and perfect for the setting. Liked the Lion heads too! Enjoyed seeing the canister sand blaster and reminded me I have one too...just need to find it and finish the collapsible paint/blasting booth. Always appreciate your work and videography!
Thanks very much :)
Enjoyed another great video from Epic UpCycling.
👍👍
Thanks very much, Thomas :)
Belle restauration bravo à bientôt salut Jeannot 🛠😉
Thanks Jeannot :)
Lovely job!! And, of course, making a chair or bench is one of the most rewarding things ever, as you can sit in it as soon as you're finished. Nice and fresh look indeed!
Thanks Matt :)
Awesome effect on the painting too! Good work!
Thanks Marian :)
Well done! It came out great. Like the whimsical colour scheme, looks much inviting that the old Gothic, black metal and dark wood benches.
Thank you :)
Lovely restoration indeed. Nice bright colours. Makes a nice change from the plane old metallic green and preserver brown that they usually come in. Very nice
Thanks Ian :)
Well done ! Nice bench
Thank you very much :)
@@EpicUpCycling You're welcome ;) Thanks for your videos
Your channel and your work is so inspiring! Thank you for sharing what you do. 😀
Thanks James :)
I love watching this guy. So talented!!
Thank you very much, Gabriels Tears :)
Beautiful 😍 !!!
That came out awesome! Love the colors. Thank you for sharing
Thanks :)
You are now my favorite channel. If it wasn't so expensive I would send you some central .CA USA special native woods to work your magic. In a weak moment I still May. You bring calm to a troubled world.
Thanks very much, Jerry :)
I had a bench similar to this one. The holes in the lower part of the end frames had a rod running across the entire length with threads and a turnbuckle.
I found the exact frames in a skip and got some hardwood from a timber yard quite cheap. used stainless bolts and siliconed them in to stop the water rotting the wood. Worked a treat so far. Nice job you’ve done there. That’s some workshop too. I’m jealous, I don’t even have one.
Thanks :)
I should have silicone the bolts on my project too. ..and put some spar varnish or urethane over the paint.
live and learn
Love it! Now I think I could tackle a restoration too.
Very nice job! Great video!
Thanks very much :)
Nice work and inspiring for restoring a children’s bench I found!
Thanks Russel :)
Nice Ive recently done this project for a neighbors cast iron bench. It was a child’s size bench that their kids used frequently. Roundovered the edges, left the patina alone and threw in a couple hardwood mahogany scraps in the seat to give it some extra strength so adults could technically sit on it hah ✊️ thanks for sharing.
Thank you :)
Great craftsmanship! Should last for many more wonderful years.
Thanks David :)
Dang, you make this look easy!

I'm part way through a bench restoration, (a first for me) and I've watched a fair few restoration project vids on here. This is the best so far in my novice opinion. Not many have gone to the trouble of making or using bracing. Without the bracing your lovely bench is saggy and the wood isn't going to last. I also liked the paintwork, what more do you want. Thanks for the your vid!
Thanks Tim, glad you enjoyed the video :)
I hope your restoration is going (or went) well. When Mr Incredible Epic was bending the metal pieces/braces, I was worried his vise would pop out of the workbench, or more likely, rip a chunk out of the bench along with the vise! Beware your own strength, right? 🤓 Have a safe and happy new year!
I love the colors. Beautiful job.
Thank you Emily :)
Absolutely gorgeous work
Thanks very much :)
I've been thinking about restoring the garden bench in my backyard! This video came at a perfect time lol. Looks amazing
Thanks :)
Awsome job
Thanks Marty :)
