gambo from 98.7 who’s very plugged in w the dbacks said there was no dialogue until monday when burnes had boras see what the dbacks would offer and the deal got done in a couple days
Not a Cubs fan, but for some reason, Alonso feels like a Cub to me. A lineup of Hoerner, Suzuki, Tucker, Alonso, Crow Armstrong , Swanson etc... Thats a piece that just fits. Instantly enters the chat for the NL elite. But I dont know a lot about the Cubs and their money/ownership situation.
I don't see why, so many people were in on Burnes to the Mets. I get the Cohen $$$, but watching Burnes reaction to his arb hearing with the Brewers, and guessing who represented the Brewers, and/or wrote the bullet points for that hearing, made me think that it probably wouldn't happen.
I feel like i’m not very surprised that the DBacks signed Burnes. They have a track record of signing top free agent pitchers like Greinke and MadBum. I feel like that’s not been talked about enough
Going to be interesting to watch how the Dbacks are this year. On one hand your pitching has nowhere to go but upwards with Burnes. On the otherhand you lost two very important bats in Joc and Walker.
Jake's outfit is like....it's like it works on two extreme ends of a few different sliders, but he's unfortunately at the middle of every one of those sliders.
McKay is their 1st baseman and Outfield coach they lost their infield coach to Houston. Walker and Perezchica. They should look into Alonso maybe an opt out after two years. Pump up his numbers in Arizona. Play solid 1st base. Skip the Vladdy year. And I don’t really see a better 1st base than Alonso. You are right Naylor is a Pederson replacement with versatility at 1st. An upgrade. But Alonso on paper would be the same offense from last year with an upgraded starting staff. Only piece missing is a legit closer.
I've been saying Torkelson for Montgomery since the trade deadline. D-Backs get off a deal they want off of for a young 1st baseman in desperate need of a change of scenery (and going back to the state where he put up the college numbers that made him a 1-1 draft pick in the first place sounds like the ideal new scenery, and D-Backs have a hitters park), plus he'd be under less pressure to live up to draft expectations with other stars there and could be a nice cost-controlled option to fill a corner outfield spot long term with some upside. Tigers get a starting pitcher who was pretty good as recently over a year ago (I don't buy that he permanently fell off that quick and blame it more on his bad offseason getting him off to a bad start he couldn't mentally recover from) who will be off the payroll after one season if Fetter, Lund, and pitching in Comerica park isn't enough to get him back to good again, but best case they get a vet who' back to his old form they could possibly sign to a team friendly extension because of a combination of trust in Detroit's pitching coaches and shell shock from the last time he went to free agency.
The thing with Gleyber in Comerica *should* be is hes a center field centric hitter and they have 20-30 foot shallower walls. I do expect a few more dingers outta him, even maybe a higher average as would be outs at Yankee Stadium could travel outta Comerica
@ but that’s just not true! Because we clearly are a contending team sign up for him and they are on our rotation! We made the NLCS last year without Soto!
Just a heads up. Tigers did not say they are trading Tork. And they expect him to try and earn a spot. Plus Colt at 1st might just be a one years thing while they see what prospects hit so very much still up in the air.
Reports say the Owners are saying to spend and the GM isnt pulling the trigger, so who knows whats actually going on at Camden Yard, but its a recipe for disaster
My fellow mariners fans, don’t you see? No signings this winter means DiPoto gets more chances to appeal to his crippling addiction to trades during the season (also, remember, “not spending money is a smart baseball strategy”)
Rangers fan I love our lineup and if rotation stays healthy I believe but it’s same rangers story every year we need to get roki preferably but at least 1 more solid SP and need tanner scott tbh. We really do.
I'm a jays fan. The mood here is dreadful, but there's a tinge of Drama attached to it. Enough to Make me feel like it's not as bad as it seems. Gimenez and a rebounding Bo should add 10 WAR to the offense, not to mention any additional moves. (The lineup WAR was 30-32 in our playoff seasons and 27 last year. Exactly Bo's missing contribution) It's our (essentially unchanged) pitching staff that dipped from 15 war to 0.1. We have no choice but to hope everyone steps up and rebounds. Can't replace 12 guys. No wonder they were in on the top of the market..pitching is the problem. Outside of maybe Bregman, Scott and Yates should be the targets and maybe the jays surprise some folks.
Also as a Jays fan, that there is a delusionally optimistic take. There are now zero combinations of free agents or trades that will put the Jays in a wild card. The only smart decisions are to a) fire the GM which they already should have done after last year 2) Trade Vlad now for prospects, and 3) Hope Bo has a better start then trade him...all in that order.
@JJ-oe4oc Bo was negative WAR last year with 29 runs. I don't think it's delusional to assume he and Gimenez can majorly change the look of the offense. We definitely need another bat tho. I'm down with trading Vlad, but I'd rather them go for a young MLB player who helps now. He was a bust in his first 6 years. 3/22 in the playoffs, and got picked off second after his only extra base hit. He also has a sub .800 ops in 'late and close' situations. He never really helped us win anything. Either way, same boat. Doesn't matter what we think, it all comes down to how they play. Our feelings today don't matter.
@@eshep71 huh? I'm fairly certain 2nd in MVP voting is not a "bust" year nor were some of the others. Bo should have a good year BUT even when he and Vlad were both doing well, the team couldn't get further. Now with George another year older, an empty bullpen (which is somehow worse than last year atm) and an aging starting crew, the Jays would need 2 solid hard hitting bats, 3 decent relief pitchers, and a miracle that everybody else plays their best year. Also, I like Gimenez' defense but they dont need defense, they need offense. He gives the team very little of that. They filled a need with that trade for one of the few places there wasnt a hole.
@JJ-oe4oc that MVP year was because of the minor league parks. His OPS was 1.200 in the first 40 home games with 21HR. A 42hr pace at home. Crazy. It significantly declined after fans came back and he came home..where he hits relatively poorly. The next two years we made the playoffs despite Vlad's 160ops+ in '21 dropping to 133, then 116. He's never been the best hitter on one of our playoff teams. Not to say he's useless.. No wonder Ohtani didn't want to join him.
@@eshep71 Ohtani was never joining and neither was Soto. When a team cant even lock up their best player (Vlad not Bo btw) who says they want to stay long-term, that sends a message to other free agents not to go there. This management team is the most useless I have ever seen and Ive been watching the Jays for 40 years. As far as playoffs is concerned, Aaron Judge has also been under whelming over his career so does that mean he is not the best Yankee player? Not to say he's useless, right?

a trade that i really like is sonny gray for spencer torkelson. after watching a full year of gray play in stl it seemed like he was almost this ringer that the cards would add to the roster every 5th day and that he does not really feel at home in stl. also the cardinals will not be competitive in the remainder of gray's contract and are looking for something to click for them. i think torkelson would fill that excellently. huge upside and the cards have a few years before they really need him to be good anyway. if tork does not pan out it's kinda whatever because really no one other than winn is panning out anyway. the only issue is moving contreras to first so either him or tork would have to dh and i think changing contreras's position again would be a mistake. gray going to detroit adds so much protection for skubal. slots gray in as a top 5? number 2 starter in the whole league and now you're looking at a scary rotation. also gray and jordan montgomery have the same aav
Its not nuts to be taxed by the state your perform the labor in. Otherwise everyone would "live" in Texas and work elsewhere. That's what this move is about, notthing more. This should have never happened beyond a one day or one week deal to have him get his standing O and retire. To have it be 15% of our projected payroll is beyond the pale. At least we seem to care about trying at 1B with Horowitz.
