We checked out a well-known USFS road in the Black Hills with the hopes of finding some garnets. I was skeptical at first, expecting it to be picked over, but we lucked out and came home with a few great finds!

Just found your channel. Solid geological context gets an immediate like!
I appreciate that. I have a background in geology so I've been trying to include a few nuggets of geologic info in my videos. Thanks for watching!
Excellent. Thank you so much. Love the video and subject matter. I hope you have wonderful luck and blessings on your hunts. God bless you both 😃
Thank you!
Love that area. Don't know what to look for in finding garnets. Thanks.
Very cool.
Nice finds! Those books are very handy! A 1/8" screen is helpful for sifting out small ones from the dirt. I have a garnet video coming out on Thursday, found some epic stuff!
A screen is a great idea! I'm planning on taking one with us when we go searching for Herkimer Diamonds next month.
Woah, those outcroppings are crazy. I don't think I've seen anything like those in Michigan where the outcropping are so vertical. Nice Garnet finds. Hopefully you find the big one soon!
The metamorphic parts of the Black Hills definitely have some crazy geology!
Hi, never found a garnet yet probably not looking in the right places, good to see your finds, help me know what im looking for, good video, take care
I'm glad my video was helpful, thanks for watching!

omg that is N Pole road! I am totally going to do this this summer!
Neat! How do you get them out of the rock? What do they look like afterwards? I am so curious!! 😀
These weren't super high quality, so I didn't bother taking many home or trying to get them out, but I would imagine a Dremel or air scribe would work.
I found this location online but can't find it anymore. Do you have a link or an address?
Here's the coordinates for where we were: 43.7442298, -103.7308398. We walked the road going east. It's not that great of spot, but worth a couple minute stop if you're on your way to Jewel Cave or Teepee Canyon.
