    Oh so many titles. Gundam wing, tenchi muyo, Zatch bell, outlaw star, big O, maybe even some YuYu hakusho?
    But this is dream I literally had since the revival. Two Toonamis. I'm very hopeful for a future that CN sees this retro stuff and possibly get off their butts and make the channel better, but we could only hope for the best and for more surprises down the pipes. These retro blocks were a great choice and I have been enjoying them.

    I think the best thing that can be done if you love this Toonami rewind thing they’re doing is go to your parents house and watch it since most of us from the original Toonami generation probably don’t have cable anymore.
    But in a way even so I would think it’s just a way of showing solidarity or support for them doing something like this. Reason being many that like this stuff probably have Crunchyroll and can watch any and all of these shows on demand.
    But the nostalgia they’re counting on to get us to watch is nice.

    • @JazzMasterSamurai

      That's a great idea. I think even talking about it on social media and just helping make people aware of the block could be really helpful. Toonami has always had this grassroots fan effort behind it.

      DBZ Kai isn't bad. I played around with remastering the Ocean Dub and it would be time consuming to say the least to get it up to broadcast standards.

    So good. Toonami Rewind has so much potential, and it is pretty damn good to see action cartoons in the daylight on linear television in 2024. They seem to have a lot of faith with this revival, and I hope they continue to go with that feeling, putting in stuff that hasn't been seen on TV in a while. I wouldn't mind seeing stuff like Gundam Wing, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Outlaw Star there or even Adult Swim-era stuff like Soul Eater, InuYasha, or Space Dandy in the afternoon. But you know what would be a wild addition? Something like Generator Rex which hasn't been seen in over a decade anywhere or the entire run of Young Justice on the block. Going back, looking ahead, constantly innovating, and full of life. That's what makes Toonami (and this video) great.

    • @JazzMasterSamurai
      @JazzMasterSamurai  6 месяцев назад

      I think the potential for greatness is what has me so fired up and in a content creation mode lately. The options for classic shows are essentially endless and it seems like the only thing that may be getting in the way is licensing/distributor politics. The DC shows would slot pretty nicely and fill a gap once DBZ Kai catches up to the Saturday airing.
      The response to Rewind has been great and I look forward to seeing where the Toonami team takes this new endeavor.

    Yu Yu Hakusho is my #1 choice for the block, plus it has its Blu Ray partial redub that's never been aired on TV so its in the same ball park as the New Sailor Moon and Naruto broadcasts. Maybe Early One Piece with the Funi Dub. They'd both fit the new style and based on what they've used so far they don't seem out of the realm of possibility.

    • @JazzMasterSamurai

      Yu Yu Hakusho would be a great choice. The most recent remaster that is on the blu ray release is just so beautiful. It's currently a Crunchyroll property, so I wonder if they are willing to play ball on some of their older shows.

Love everything Dragon Ball, though I've never watched Kai all the way through, so now I will. Never watched Naruto, but it looks cool!!

    Lots of titles I would love to see broadcast to Toonami Rewind. Series like Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki, Mobile Suit Gundam, Outlaw Star, YuYu Hakusho, Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac(The 1986 TV series, and Netflix/Sentai dub), and One Piece (Pre-time Skip, and Funimation/Crunchyroll dub).
    Even though the majority of the anime wasn't broadcast on Toonami, it is still worth noting that adding some anime from the old days of Fox Kids, Kids’WB, Fox Box, and 4Kids TV. Series like Pokemon (Ingigo League), Yu-Gi-Oh! (uncut), Ultimate Muscle, Shaman King (2001 TV series, uncut), and Sonic X. Some of these recently got a Blu-ray release.

      I've seen it said (granted, I read this several years ago on message boards) that Jason Demarco isn't a fan of Yu-Gi-Oh. When people were asking him on Twitter for an English dub of Yu-Gi-Oh Zero on Toonami, he basically said Yu-Gi-Oh was never coming back to the block.
      Yeah, I'd love to see proper early One Piece on Toonami-even if it would take AGES to get to the stuff we missed between Brook joining, and the reunion on Sabaody.

    @PrincessNine 6 месяцев назад +1

    It was flawed.
    Sailor Moon was the bad pink bluray. It also fails to appeal to the og toonami kids because it isn't the original dub which people are nostalgic for. It's not so much an issue on quality, just the version that aims for nostalgia. Kai using the jp version of the songs was kinda...transparently a petty move.
    Naruto looked bad. The episode was choppy which if you look up the episode on other sources like Netflix you wouldn't have the weird semi stuttering you'd see in a bad transfer. I fear every episode is going to go through that which sucks.
    Okay so to go back to that claim that the broadcast episodes/edited versions arnt off the internet.
    Here's the thing, they're not consistently available in perfect quality (old uploads and old inferior dvd scans). This attitude can't be continued for other shows because, frankly, they're unpreserved or horribly preserved. Currently example that comes to mind, Cardcaptors. The original TV release never completed its DVD run and they only aired a truncated version of the shows episode count. The entire show from start to finish was dubbed but got aired elsewhere. Later on a out of region release of the dub with slightly less heavy handed scripts(most likely the first recordings going through review to air) along with newly recorded English covers of openings and endings. This version is considered essentially the best version of this dub and Only a handful got released on DVD and the rest of the episodes are hit or miss in terms of audio. Any proof that the 3rd opening was dubbed with English credits were seemingly scrubbed from the internet and all that's left are poor TV audio recording and edited version of the footage. All efforts of preservation of this release are mostly edited by fans with questionable results.
    While the faithful dub is something worth considering, it's relatively disliked for its quality alone.
    I recognize most of this is most likely being strangled by licensing but I also feel apathetic voices are perpetuating the issue. We have the voice to signal to them we do wish to be nostalgicly pandered to While also scoring a win for media/historical preservation. So while the only current versions legally available of these shows seems ideal due to faithfulness, to be frank. It actively misses the point. One glance in sailor moon Fandom and you'll see people referring to sailor moon by both names, dbz fans are still referencing the old score from time to time.
    To be fair, they happened to pick 2 shows with this heavy of a history when 95% of their line up are fine.
    That said out everything said here, if whomever reading ignores or scoffs at it all, at least take with you the fact that Naruto was in a TERRIBLE condition and at the very least the should fix that if it persists.
    PS : they should air Tenchi Muyo or Tenchi Universe. For maximum impact.

    • @AussieDragoon
      @AussieDragoon 6 месяцев назад

      A lot of the use of newer releases are at the behest of the original companies that license the shows, they don't like certain aspects of the older dubs and so out of their way to prevent them from being seen. A big example of this is when Gundam was getting its Blu Ray releases a while back and according to the localization team, they reason why the Animax Dub of Gundam ZZ wasn't used on its release (despite other shows like Build Fighters having bad SEA English dubs on their release) is specifically because Sunrise said they couldn't because they didn't like it. Though sometimes its for other reasons like not wanting to pay the original actors but that's mostly for streaming shows that get blu ray releases. As for Dragon Ball's music, Kai always used the Japanese score, the only real replacement they did was the end credits song where they used the japanese version despite dubbing it.

      It was flawed "for you."
      Yeah, Sailor Moon has a bad transfer but Toei isn't going to fix that any time soon, and Toonami sure as hell isn’t going to turn it down in favor of decade-old edited tapes. I loved watching the original, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying this product.
      Naruto looked fine on my television and through RUclipsTV. It may have been your connection.
      I understand your frustration, but you need to look at the licensors and distributors for their less-than-stellar preservation efforts. I bought the whole Ocean Dub / Rock the Dragon DBZ DVD set a decade ago, and that transfer looks like crap. It is just a product of that era.
      Yes, Toonami Rewind is fundamentally flawed, but so was the main block when it came back in 2012. That eventually evolved into a solid product that surpassed the CN era, and I do not doubt that given the viewership and support, this could be just as successful.
