‘Embarrassment’: Douglas Murray breaks down Secret Service chief’s ‘disastrous’ hearing

  • Author Douglas Murray reflects on former Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle’s performance at a House oversight committee hearing this week.
“She seemed to be intent on not giving any details in case she could somehow be tripped up on them at some later date in the hearing or afterwards and that was just a disastrous tactic,” Mr Murray told Sky News host Caroline Di Russo.
“She was repeatedly asked about timelines and it turned out she didn't have them. It really was an embarrassment.”

She was so bad at that hearing I don't think you can even blame it on DEI. I seems like she was pushed into the role by Jill Biden and they were friends. This tells me that the Biden's wanted a friend to cover up any wrong doings that may have been or would be witnessed by ss agents. Why couldn't they determine who owned the white powder? ----->Cheadle threw a blanket over it.

Here is the problem I have; In 2023, Cheatle told CBS News that the Secret Service needed to "attract diverse candidates and give opportunities to everybody in the workforce, particularly women". She stated that her goal was that by 2030, thirty percent of its recruits would be female. Why is this important? Why is it important that 30% of a companies workforce be women, or black people, or Asians or Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration? Why can't positions within a company/organization be filled by merit? You have that position because of all the people considered for it, you were the best. What's wrong with that?

Even if everyone agrees on the failure of Secret Service many questions remains unanswered, where the former Secret Service boss was just dodging & ducking all questions. For example, did Crooks use the 5 foot ladder he bought, and if so, where? Why didn't the police/Secret Service have access to any ladder?
How many of the 8 shots heard (3+5 shots) came from Crooks? Secret Service's snipers only need 1 shot so maybe the 5 last shots didn't come from Secret Service? Kimberly Cheatle didn't even know how many shell casings there were from Crooks rifle. 8 shell casings has been recovered next to Crooks body according to Col. Paris (PSP).
Why only 22 (out of more than 8000 employees) - whereof an undisclosed amount of temporary/inexperienced agents - from Secret Service at an event with ten thousands of participants, protecting the person who lives under the probably biggest threat in the world? Why didn't Cheatle want to reveal that there were 22 agents and why did she repeatedly claim that there was enough people to protect Trump? There were 30 from PSP plus an unknown number of Butler Police.
Especially strange considering the extended threat to Trump from Iran (where Biden let thousands of illegal Iranians into US thru the Mexican border).
Was Butler, Pa. commissioner truthful when he claimed that USSS lied and that all of the police only were there for traffic duty?
Why was Trump denied requests for more security, and who denied this? Why didn't FBI add resources?
Whatabout the Democrats who wanted to take away Trump's Secret Service protection completely, just weeks before the assassination attempt?
Why were Secret Service and the police on different radio frequencies? Is that standard, and if so why? There where 3 different radio systems/frequencies; USSS, Pen State Police & Butler Police - plus phones, voice & text thru some text system - and it seems like this contributed to the obvious communication failure. Col. Paris (PSP responsible) said he doesn't know the routines for how to relay info from the radio communication (or phones) to the correct person (he says only USSS knows this) or if his police could access the other frequences.
Why wasn't the radio communication recorded at the event? Cheatle says it's recorded otherwise.
Secret Service knew about the threat more than 1 hour before Crooks started shooting. Why did Secret Service let Trump speak in spite of that they knew about Crooks even before Trump went on the stage?
Why wasn't Crooks investigated by USSS when he was considered to be a suspicious subject (not even at 5:30 or 5:52)?
Seems like Secret Service had Crooks in the crosshairs already 19 minutes before Crooks started shooting. Why did the Secret Service's snipers have their weapons directed towards Crooks for so long (19 minutes) without shooting? Why did they let Trump continue to speak?
Why were there no counter sniper team in the water tower (most elevated position, 160 yards away from Trump)?
When was the last sweep of the roof where Crooks was shooting from, and the area around it?
Why did Secret Service let Crooks run a drone over the area (even more than 1 time)? Why didn't USSS have any drones (or chopper)?
Why did the police have to tear down the fence and drive thru a gate to be able to get to the building where Crooks was on the roof?
When & why did Thomas Crooks father call the police, worried about what his son would do, how did that conversation go and did USSS search for this info?
Who approved the security plan? Who was the site command/site supervisor? Seems like there was a planning problem, a coordination problem and a supervision problem. Who was in what command center at what time?
Exactly who signed off on the security plan? Where's the accountability? Nobody has been disciplined and everybody who failed their mission are still active and can continue to put presidents and others at risk for another 60 days or more, during a presidential campaign. Nobody has been fired or even suspended.
Why was 'The Beast' not parked immediately adjacent to the stage (with a secure distance to the public) to facilitate a fast exit for Trump?
Why did Kimberly Cheatle (one of many Trump-haters & Jill Biden's favorite security guard) lie about the slope on the building, and about who were in the building ('local police') with Crooks on the roof. Kimberly Cheatle had no answers during the hearing 9 days after the assassination attempt. Cheatle knew just about nothing, not even that it was 130-140 yards between Crooks & Trump. Transparency from USSS is close to none.

Many declare and shout that she failed badly, catastrophically in her job. I'd ask what was her actual job regarding DT and did she actually come very close to fulfilling her given task on that day??????

The U.S. Secret Service should never have been moved from the Treasury Department to the Department of Homeland Security (2003). If there were concerns about the sharing of information between the FBI and other Intelligence Agencies then some type of liaison should have been created.

Now, they need to investigate her involvement in this. If she's found guilty of purposely neglecting Trump's security detail. She needs to be punished accordingly.

When a leader fails miserably, they might resign or get sacked immediately. For neither to happen, the only conclusion is that she is negotiating her terms. If the Whitehouse wasn’t willing to sack her then she must have something over them. We can expect that some deal has been made and that
Kimberly Cheatle manages to get a pretty good position in the near future. We can also expect that she keeps secret those things that she was unwilling to even hint at during these hearings.

DEI hires never face any scrutiny or accountability. Instead, critics of their abysmal performance are attacked as misogynists, or racists. And that is exactly what she did leading up to this hearing. But once there, she had to put on big girl pants and answer questions - something she has apparently not had to do before as a DEI hire.

    H. Stuart Knight was indeed the Director of the Secret Service at the time of the Reagan assassination attempt that occurred on March 30, 1981. Knight did indeed retire after the attempt... in November of 1981.
So yes, He did retire after the failed attempt on President Reagan but not in the immediate aftermath as this dude would have us believe,
Her answer was correct. He remained on duty for more than half a year.

    Gently folks.
Just a reminder that someone was in ,(field),command at the convention and ignored calls regarding the sniper, to be, on the roof.
It appears that with so many agencies on site there was no command structure.
That’s the person, the field officer in charge, who should be fronting the Inquiry.
    Where the truth really lies.
As to the Director , the red herring, all she’s really guilty of is gross stupidity concerning the roof and failure of leadership of the Secret Service. That’s everything from training to diversity hiring.
    Thankfully she’s resigned.
However that officer who was supposedly in command is still unknown.
Why hasn’t the Senate Inquiry followed this up..
If there’s a cover up that’s where it will be..
