"Why do people hate the good-old facial scrub" I believe it's because ever since chemical exfoliation got more attention in the market, many youtubers started to condemn facial scrub and recommended the chemical counterpart. I always believe facial scrub is good, with right frequency without too abrasive texture.
Honestly it might have been an industry-wide marketing gimmick. Scrubs have been popular for a long time and there are tons of cheap options. But if everyone starts thinking they're evil, then it's easier to market fancy, new, $$$ options with acids.
I do prefer scrub or gel peel exfoliant cause I feel like it’s more suitable for me as there’s no irritation left while AHA BHA always give me cystic acne next morning. I tried Paulas choice, Drunk elephant, ordinary, cosrx literally in all percentages. My skin just don’t react well with chemicals one.

I like scrubs, but since my skin is sensitive and atopic, I use colloidal oatmeal most of the time and it's great! 🐼 You can mix it with honey or your current cleanser and it works perfectly fine 🐨
I like scrubs on my body, especially in the winter. And I use DIY scrups on my face in the winter with gentle ingredients, such as oat, rice or dry hearbs.
Skinfood Black Sugar mask is the only one in my routine right now that you guys never cover until this video (Before I click, I thought if you guys don't mention it, I will). The grain not being fine never bother me because you supposed to put it on your wet/damp face, and the sugar mask melts almost instantly when contact with water. I definitely am a fan of oil cleansers more than scrubs now that I'm older. As a teenager, I loved facial scrubs but into my late 20s early 30s, I go more with oil cleansers and chemical exfoliants.
St. Ives apricot scrub was all the rage back in my teens in the 90's but now as an older adult I've made the switch to lactic acid for my weekly exfoliation, sometimes I gently use a washcloth in the shower once in a while. That being said, I won't say no to a physical scrub that isn't as abrasive and harmful to the skin barrier.
I have tried the OG Skin Food Black Sugar with and without Honey. For the sugar only, I add Missha First Treatment Essence to loosen the mask and make it more appliable.
I’ve always been acne prone so I used salicylic acid daily for years and loved it. Now that I’m older and using retinol and other actives for anti aging it’s been a challenge to work in a chemical exfoliant without irritating my skin. I recently started GENTLY using a scrub once a week and my skin looks amazing.
This video was very informative, as always. I've never seen the problem with physical exfoliation every once in a while, and I think they are a better alternative to face clothes... speaking of, as a love-to-hate how about the use of brushes, sponges and faceclothes while cleansing!
The St Ives Apricot Scrub (and the Equate knock off) were amazing for my skin. I haven’t used them in at least a couple of years, but I remember having great improvements with blackheads and texture when I used them regularly.
Definitely had to pause to make myself a cup of green tea! While I now prefer chemical exfoliation for its long term benefits and gentleness, I think powder exfoliants were a great middle ground to slowly wean off harsher scrubs!
Hmmm.. interesting. I love this topic in general because there is so much controversy around this and other things. I’m super sensitive so I’m a “no physical scrub” girl. But it really just depends on your current skin condition and concerns. Things can always change
Olay has a new line of scrubs out and I like most of their ingredients. I applied it lightly and it dissolved within a few seconds and didn't feel harsh on the skin. I noticed they are trying to be a bit more attentive to the ingredients they use. But its also budget friendly to me.
I use a exfoliating cleaser from lush... angels on bare skin, and I love it. I use it at night, once or twice a weeks because my skin type is dry, and I have rosacea on my cheeks. I don't feel like it's agressive at all
Im team scrub :D I never was too harsh thanfully, and here Ive never seen apricon scrub or these "bad" ones, just kinda gentle :D but I was really sceptical of enzyme powder, but now I know they are fine
For my skin I prefer chemical exfoliants for keeping my pores clear, but I prefer physical exfoliants for roughness and flaking. My favorite physical exfoliants are a lightweight bamboo linen washcloth OR the Cocokind sea moss exfoliating powder. It's messy to use and it smells like dirt (because dirt is basically what it is) but it is the most gentle and wonderful scrub I've ever used.
I haven’t used a scrub in years because I was told they were bad but i use the exfoliating pads because without them my oily skin hates me... but now honestly I’m going to go buy a few scrubs
I’m currently using the Tony Moly I’m Rice enzyme powder cleanser and it’s AMAZING so far! If anyone else has used it, please let me know your experience with it! ♥️
I haven't watched yet, but as someone who doesn't like beaded scrubs, I've only liked two gritty scrubs. Tula so polished sugar scrub. And this underdog brand, Pur attitude, purifying rice face wash. It's so gentle and smells amazingly light and fresh and fruity. Very very light natural fragrance.

I made a pledge to ensure I have some sort of routine every night, and ever since I started double cleansing every night, and rinsing/wash during morning, my skin has been freaking out. Love your channel! 😊 I’m using your videos to educate myself more and try some of the diet tips given 😅 it’s only been a week and I feel a positive difference in my skin!! I got my skincare routine down!! Now getting my diet on track
St Ives was my first scrub. It did not do good things for my skin, which was very dry and flaky. I also used Skin Food's sugar scrub for a while---which I low key wanted to eat every time I opened it. I think I'd be willing to try it again, but swap for that honey blend, which sounds perfect! The thing that has finally started to help both my flakes and acne is a combo of shaving and a Microderma Mitt (in addition to other skincare/lifestyle changes, but for the sake of this video, this is how I exfoliate stubborn dead skin). About 1-2 times per month, I shave---primarily around my chin area where I get acne and flaking (use a drop or two of facial oil beforehand). If I have flaking between shaves that I know I'll pick at, I VERY carefully try to remove it with the facial razor. And then I use the Microderma Mitt (ZitMitt variety) on my T-zone if it seems oily---no more than a couple times a week. I also have a Microderma Mitt for my body to help with KP (it doesn't fix it, nothing fixes KP, but it helps make the bumps smoother, which makes me less prone to scratching). And of course, always moisturize after exfoliating. There are also instances when I know a piece of skin is ready to flake off, and since there's a pandemic and I'm working from home and not going anywhere, I just leave the flakes be and use some extra moisturizer on the area and the flaky bits will decide to come off of their own accord within an hour or two. It's a gross comparison, but I imagine it like food caked on a plate---If you soak it, eventually the dried food becomes waterlogged and yeets itself. You CAN scrub it off, but that's often a pain and can ruin your scrub brush. Just give it some moisture and a little patience though and you're good!
On the one hand, I love the bright look because it really fits their vibe, but.. The brighter you go, the less 'flaws' you'll see on skin. It just gets washed out. I know these women have beautiful skin because they also have vlogs with no makeup on, but it still feels a bit weird to use this kind of lighting on a show about skincare. 🤷♀️ I'd prefer a more natural lighting too.
@@princessjadie no its because people, especially females are fixed on color hence why theres wyite worship all over the world. And racism. Dont be dumb.
Hello, Beauty Within! What is your take on chlorophyll masks? I’ve been seeing the brand Cocokind getting some good ratings. But I wanna hear from YOU first. Thanks!
So my very clear skin went bumpy after a few months of abandoning scrubs but I also switched to other skincare which might be the case. I switched back to my trusted products later but my skin wasn't really getting healed. One day I saw my scrub just sitting in my closet n used it. My skin felt so smooth and it cleared up real fast. But overdoing it can damage skin barrier. I say do it once a week or once in two weeks. Don't abandon chemical exfoliation tho
I have run the whole gamut here... Used St Ive's Apricot Scrub religiously for a while, then discovered the Skincare Addiction subreddit and swore off physical exfoliation, and now... you just gotta realize that there needs to be moderation in everything. I use a charcoal+pumice scrub on my body occasionally, but I tend not to use scrubs on my face, just because I'm trying out irritating actives like retinol and vitamin C, and so I don't want to overwhelm my face by adding physical scrubs on top of that. I do sometimes use a soft silicone scrubby in the mornings to spread my cleanser around, though.
I'm not a fan of the scrubs that I was using on my face anymore, now that I know about them being to rough and that yurning my face red is a bad thing. That being said. I would be willing to try the 9wishes scrub or the fresh strawberry scrub...if I had the coins. Thanks for this video ladies
My fave is Kiehl's rare earth detoxifying ckeanser. I have also used the Fresh sugar scrub and it was great too, the sugar particles just melt into the water. What I did not like about that one though, is that the texture was not consistent, idk 🤔
I’ve tried so many chemical exfoliants with different types of AHA and BHAs and my skin just does not agree with chemical exfoliants, even those with really low percentages. So I’ll be sticking with my physical scrubs. I use the UpCircle coffee scrub with herbal oils and I will never EVER give it up. It feels so SO good and the oils nourish my skin like nothing else. I’ve never used a scrub that makes my skin feel as smooth and hydrated after using it.
i switched from scrubs to manual face brush years ago, now that im "mature" i use a silicone face pad I call "a cat's tongue" the newer gentle scrubs intrigue me.
@beautywithin How often would you suggest using a black sugar scrub? I used to use it once a week, and I eventually quit because I became concerned with whether it was safe for my skin. HOWEVER, I do have a bit of a blackhead issue I’ve been using ahas and bhas to treat, so maybe a scrub would be a gentle addition.
For me, I don’t use sunscreen if I won’t be going out. I think it’s overdoing it when one apply sunscreen everyday regardless if they were going out or not. It depends on you if you found your holy grail sunscreen then apply it even you are asleep in the morning and working from home in the evening, but my practice, I literally do not go out (even just going to my balcony and I am not near the window so The sunlight won’t hit me at all) so I don’t need it, I don’t do it.
If I haven’t used any type of exfoliant at all do you think it’s wise to start with a scrub vs a chemical? then if it’s not effective trying a chemical? I have very sensitive skin.
I really did not like the fresh strawberry scrub. The smell was beautiful. But it just melted in my hands and I felt like I was applying nothing on skin. I almost felt like I was pulling the skin on my face as there was nothing. I did use a lot more than any other cleaner or scrub. Definitely not worth the money in my opinion. Anyone else have the same problem with fresh?
If you've been feeling down for some time and have not much motivation to get out of bed and feeling lethargic and can't wait for the day to be over every day, my advice is to first *get your thyroid checked!* I know this because I'm suffering from hypothyroidism now and that makes the whole world slow down including your body's metabolism.
AHA and even PHA exfoliants destroy my skin every single time, even if I leave them on 2min and not more than once a week... Yeah, going back to gentle physical exfoliants because at least they do not burn my skin!
What do you guys think of dermalogica powder exfoliants? I feel like its just a second cleaner for me and its very gentle! However, while washing my face and rising after- skin starts to pile up under my nails so I feel like the dermalogica exfoliant is "TOO" gentle for my oily skin- What should I replace it with?
Looking for new products as I usually get Umma case full of Seoul but they have discontinued it. If anyone knows a set similar to it let me know please.
Can someone help me? I started a new skincare routine few days ago using Vitamin C booster and Azelaic acid in the morning and retinol and Niacinamide in the night. At the beginning everything was fine, but its been 2 days where my face does not stop peeling and everytime I put a product on my face, it burns. Is this normal?
I think you might be overloading your skin with all those products. Come back to using just bare basics (cleanser, moisturizer, spf) for a few days and when your skin calms down, try using treatment products interchangeably just once a day - either vitamin C in the morning, or retinol at night. If it's still irritating, try using them once every two days. Your skin might get used to those actives and more frequent use will be possible - but it can also turn out that your skin is most comfortable getting longer breaks in-between, and that's completely okay too ;)
@@shalryma thanks for replying. Well i stopped using the products except Niacinamide the night, it doesnt burn that much, gonna try to night. I did have hyperpigmentation specially on my forehead. Now my face is just very dry, so I was putting Egyptian Magic since its very oily. Those hyperpigmentations spots are starting to peel off I feel which very weird. It though they were scars at the beginning

Please suggest something for ingrown hair problem
If I haven’t used any type of exfoliant at all do you think it’s wise to start with a scrub vs a chemical? then if it’s not effective trying a chemical? I have very sensitive skin.
I still have a tub of facial scrub sooo I'm gonna use it up
I really did not like the fresh strawberry scrub.
Only physical exfoliation that is happening is on my feet 😂❤️👌
Felili and Rowewe made me smile
If you've been feeling down for some time and have not much motivation to get out of bed and feeling lethargic and can't wait for the day to be over every day, my advice is to first *get your thyroid checked!* I know this because I'm suffering from hypothyroidism now and that makes the whole world slow down including your body's metabolism.
So ami I gonna consider it as my birthday gift or what?? 😍🙂😶✌️😘
What are your thoughts on the Volition Beauty turmeric brightening polish?
AHA and even PHA exfoliants destroy my skin every single time, even if I leave them on 2min and not more than once a week... Yeah, going back to gentle physical exfoliants because at least they do not burn my skin!
I've been using BHA for 5 months now i dont think it Expoliate like scrubs do.
Physical scrub works for me but i use it only when i have breakout. I dun use it as a routine.
Team scrub😍❤️🤞🏼 I love scrubs they work very well no my face❤️❤️ people just need to use them correctly❤️❤️💗💗
I have KP on my face...so I am mega confused 😕
How about scrubs that uses plant cellulose?
Right like how can exfoliants be bad but pricking little needles in your skin be ok…?
Love love you girls xxx stay safe
Looking for new products as I usually get Umma case full of Seoul but they have discontinued it. If anyone knows a set similar to it let me know please.
❤ been waiting
#TeamScrub here! Just not too much, 'coz everything in excess is not good. 😊
I love surb on my Body
I need ❤❤this
ok this is before watching the vid but ima guess they r bad bc it will irritate the skin more?
Some can cause micro abrasions in the skin, so you shouldn't use things like ground nutshells or grounded pumice.
What did I miss
I love a physical scrub (sugar is my choice)
Nice video✨✨🌸🌸
