What’s wondrous about this score is the compassion and sadness it expresses for all the characters. Particularly all those wasted lives. And the use of Fauré’s “In Paradisum” in one scene was masterfully in the same vein.

Like the film, this music draws you in with a perfect balance of sadness and fear; you feel feel sad for the serial killers in a way here, because they're damaged souls, then you also fear what they're capable of. The sadness experienced by Dr Hudson knowing that she is trapped in this position of knowledge and torment, and eventually she has to face her fears to defeat the serial killer.
The music clearly tells the viewer what about the movie is: sad, despair and complex personnalities, unable to get out of their own problems... And even at the end, you're not sure they managed to... Young is amongts the masters in expressong feelings through his music. This one and Entrapment ( ruclips.net/video/TJRBTvO1JHE/видео.html ) are beautiful examples of his talent in writing melancholic melodies... Thanks for listening
Notice the impression on Peter Foley's face when he is shot in the arm and when Dr. Hudson insults him and spits him in the face. He gets furious. That's what sets him off. He's been keeping these emotions inside him perhaps since childhood and projects them onto other people. Years of humiliation and negligence are the roots of his hate and anger toward people, particularly young women.
Anyone know the classic (the vocals are a chorus singing) that’s on while the crime scene photos are reviewed? Heard it in other movies so it’s not original music, but it’s not on the soundtracks posted here.

I can’t even remember any soundtracks to new movies. Music is sometimes more memorable than the actual movie.
New movies have generic riffs. No tunes, no rememberable melodies.
New movies hardly have stories, let alone great background scores.
