Lovely sights and sounds😊. I grew up with steam. My uncle, who lived with us, had a Burrell Showman's engine, Nero, that he rescued from scrap in the early '50s and a 2ft guage railway engine, 8:27 now called Armistace and working at the Bredgar and Wormshill railway in Kent. I miss those days!
Delighted to see Andrew Cook’s steam lorry from just round the corner from me in Leven, I wonder how it got to Beamish. These wagons remind me of being a small boy and the man next door to my granny worked on one of these delivering coal in the early 1960’s. I guess the readily available source of cheap coal to a coal merchant and the need for two men to hump the bags about anyway made steam wagons still economical long after haulage had gone over to diesel and petrol power.
Absolutely super memories of week-ends at rallies with my family and our Fowler traction engine 🥰
