- Sideshow revealed a new Darth Vader Mythos Statue as part of their 12 Days of Sideshow. As a long-time collector of the Mythos Statue line, I am not buying this one. Here are my thoughts on the new Darth Vader Statue and why I am not supporting Sideshow on its latest Star Wars Mythos Edition.

As a collector I can appreciate everything you’re saying. That said, I got into collecting after the first one came out. So I never got an opportunity to get it. And it’s difficult to pay $1500 for a 1/5 scale statue in the aftermarket, even having the funds for it. I’m looking forward to finally getting a definitive Vader in my collection. But again, you’re not wrong.
This statue is amazing in my opinion ! Super unique, regardless on how Vader in hold the lightsaber
for me, who didnt collect when the first mythos came out, this is a day 1 pre-order!! We never saw a Darth vader in battle damage suit in statue form so this is amazing for me! And if Sideshow decided to make other character that we never saw in mythos line, this would be insane, like a Yoda, Dooku, Mace etc... the list is long ahaha
This video was based around the fact you own the previous mythos statue which now is left in the shadow of the new mythos piece. I along with many other collectors who aren’t even Star Wars collectors have ordered or are planning to order this Vader, to me that speaks volumes

I've retired about a year ago from statue collecting but I can't resist this Vader. It's the best Vader statue I've seen so far. Absolutely love everything about it. But I can understand your complaints.
Well if you have a shitload of Vader statues then yea you not gonna like it... For someone getting their first Vader statue they will love it. The position on your shelf is also not a statue problem it's your problem lol I don't understand what the sculpt has to do with shelves. I'll probably get it and it will be the only representation of Vader I will heve.... So it's not the same Ole.... And I been collecting from the getgo xmen vs sentinel #1.... The original life-size alien head the first Logan with the pleat her jacket....
I appreciate your opinion on this piece but for me it's a must-have. I wasn't collecting when the original Mythos Vader came out and I actually like this more than that one anyway. So it gives collectors like me a chance to grab a Vader to go with my Mythos Palpatine and Maul.

On the Vader statue the part where shows the cybernetic knee if you look closely down low it looks like you can see some toes🤣
Great video and points raised. I will be getting the new Mythos as it is the most interesting version of Vader that Sideshow have done and I don’t have a Vader and like the scale and composition of the Mythos line. As you rightfully said Sideshow tend to have really basic posed safe sculpts for some statues compared to other brands. I personally love movement in a statue which is why the Ventress Mythos is my current favourite and this Vader gives off similar vibes to me. I prefer this to the original Mythos Vader because I never liked the orange paint at the bottom of his armour and cape as it just didn’t work for me. Keep the vids coming buddy and Happy New Year to you and yours.

This Vader is sick, crazy sculpt from the K bros. I think it’s gonna sell extremely well. That ES is easily gonna be over 4000.
I appreciate your thoughts on the new piece. When I first saw the reveal, I was a bit disappointed because I wanted a different character (Cad Bane, Ahsoka, Jedi Master Luke), but I quickly fell in love with what I was seeing. I"m a huge fan of the Kucharek Bros and their dynamic sculpted capes and robes, and this is another great example. Plus I missed out on the first Mythos line, so this will be my first ever Vader piece...I'm curious what switchouts this might have. Regardless, you make some very fair points, and hopefully the next reveal will be new to the Mythos arena, cheers!
Very informative review! Your perspective as a seasoned collector explains your position on this piece: presentation issues and repetitiveness (predictability). Thus, it makes sense as a purchase for less-seasoned collectors who may have missed out on earlier releases. Yours is a simple & straightforward argument that is easy to understand and does not prevent anyone from their enjoyment of the piece.
For myself, I appreciate the critique because it elevates the entire SW collecting scene into a commentary on how each one of us appreciates true art. Your analysis (and others like it) breaks through the 'fan art' monicker applied to properties like Star Wars (or MARVEL & DC, as other examples). You invite viewers to observe what is happening in the scene, and suggest what is possible for how it might better express itself in the future. A personal goal of mine is to highlight how Star Wars art - including pieces like this Mythos statue - is not just 'fan art'. Fan art is a put down term used by so-called 'serious' artists and collectors to differentiate themselves. Real art is the in-group (the cool kids) & fan art is the out-group (the not-cool kids) Your review demonstrates that Star Wars art is far from unserious, and that it is, in fact, true artistic expression.

Personally I missed out on the original Mythos Vader, and am pretty happy about being able to have a Vader added to my Mythos Collection. Still looking for the original Mythos Vader as well. I do not collect all the Mythos line, but only the statues I actually like.
I understand that if you own the original Vader, a more differentiated scene would be a plus, but also remember how much the collecting scene has shifted and grown since the original was released. I am also aware that with the edition sizes for the never statues, this may not be referred to as an actual collectible for a number of people.
Also still looking for a 1/4 Vader, but none living up to my full expectations yet. I like the new Sideshow coming out with some of the poses, but for me personally, the base knocks it dead in the water.
At least it is not a full reissue, which would be a real turn off and absolutely destroy all credibility.
Just my personal thoughts, so please fell free to disagree, and not just bash me with hate!
Hot toys have a great 1/4 darth vader.
Good impressions on this piece. You kept it clean and pro which is appreciated. I’m definitely getting this piece as I don’t own the OG. Looks bad ass, I wouldn’t mind a Mythos Ahsoka or Din Djarin
Hey Jorge! Okay where to start. You know me, I think the world of you man, I really do. However I can't help but feel this particular piece would have caused the dark side to boil in you no matter what. When you said something along the lines of preferring another character all together I was like, "And there it is!" Haha! Some of your issues on this piece seemed a bit harsh I think. For example, the Mustafar base... or is it? Yeah Sideshow used Mustafar as the backdrop but really, this could be any planet. From what I can tell the base is a downed X-Wing with fire coming from it. I don't really think that means it's supposed to be Mustafar. Perhaps Sideshow should have used a different backdrop. That's how I see it anyway. The bellowing cape... I flipping love it! It reminds me of the Mythos Asajj in a way. Yeah hers don't bellow out quite this far but the fact that it's so well sculpted reminds me of that piece. Now the stance. I do agree with you a bit here. Sideshow did seem to play it safe BUT I think the gripping power/force hand is just so dang iconic for the character. All in all I know you and I will have differing opinions on reused Mythos characters. And again I do get it, you have all of the previous line. I completely agree wanting something different to add to what you've collected. However for guys like me, this is an amazing way to get a Mythos Vader. Now one thing I really hope Sideshow do is give us an alternate severely battle damaged portrait. I'm talking a nice chunk of the helmet missing with Anakin's yellow and red Sith eyes showing underneath.
I'll close with this... I have a sinking feeling you'll end up getting this piece. I think the completionist in you (and the fact that you don't entirely hate this piece) will pull at you. Come on, Jorge you want this. The hate is swelling in you now. Take your wallet, use it. The statue is unarmed. Purchase it... give in to your anger!
Your opinion is solid, this is how it should be.. I have pretty much unsubscribed to 90% of the channels that's constantly praising every piece or every release.. I question the credibility of people who think everything is awesome and amazing

I appreciate your honest thoughts on the piece. As someone who doesn't really collect Star wars I decided to jump on this one. I'll wait for a good Obi Wan to get released to pair with it, but that battle damaged head sculpt on the exclusive made me pull the trigger
I must confess that this is going to be my very first!!! Darth Vader statue !!! Ever !! For the simple reason!!! Is better!!! More details and different in so many ways!! Where I begin!!! I’m happy that I waited long enough for my first one !!! M I going to get another one probably not for a long time!!! This is the problem with collecting!!! You get the same over and over!!! This is why you wait for something different!!! To me my humble opinion! This is the definition of the same carácter but different! ✌🏼

Thanks Jorge for sharing your feelings on this. I totally agree with a lot of your points on this, while i missed out on the OG Vader Mythos im tempted... But why another mustafar base.. that is the one thing to me that bugs me the most. It looks fantastic and i might likely get it.. but i can see in your shoes. Well it would piss me off lol. OG one is expensive for a reason, not many at all and none other like it until now :(

While I understand your point, there are some of us that missed out on the original and been waiting for a really cool piece. Ive been waiting for an awesome unique vader piece for years and this is finally it. Don’t really care if the edition size is 400 or 4000
Looks like a dope statue I like how this one looks more battle damage in action. The cape is a little much though.
I love a cape that's a little much. The more, the better. As far as capes go, it can never be too much. I'm here for a dramatic cape, and that was the big draw for me.
I agree with you on the part were I wish they would have made a different character. There is no shortage of vader options, and while I do appreciate this piece I would like to see characters that have never been done or have only been made once. For example a mythos grievous kaleesh warlord...
Was looking forward to hear your thoughts on this. Don’t get me wrong this is an awesome piece! Though the cape is a bit much for me. I love your concept idea though. That would be amazing! Frankly if I didn’t have a Vader I’d pick this up. I’m sure they’re gonna do a Hayden inspired Vader once Ahsoka comes out…. So get ready for another Vader!😂
I too wish they’d do another never done before character… I think SS is the best at doing repeat characters unnecessarily. But it’s all about $$ for them. Not listening to seasoned collectors such as yourself 😉

I enjoyed listening to your perspective. With that said, I think you were looking at it from a collector perspective, and not an artist perspective. Your comment on the pose doesn't take into consideration that Vader is standing on an object that forces that stance. Your cape imbalance point makes sense, but from the perspective I'm seeing in the picture, the light saber balances that a bit by extending to the right. There's also an angle to the overall sculpt that draws a diagonal line slanted to the left. I think that's an nteresting artistic choice that makes the cape design even more purposeful. Ultimately, I have a big complaint with your commentary: you're being very selfish. As a collector, you're only concerned about the company pleasing your own collecting needs, rather than the needs for the community at large. There are people like me who are new to connecting and have never seen the previous mythos vader, let alone collected a vader statue at all. As a minimal fan of StarWars, I couldn't see myself collecting any statues in that license: my pop figures don't count. But the Darth Maul statue caught my eye and drew my attention to the mythos line, and this Vader statue sealed the deal. In my opinion, there's nothing bad about this statue. I say enjoy your previous mythos statue, and be happy that new collectors have an opportunity to get a mythos Vader of their own. I've seen other collectors hone in on that concept by saying: "I wouldn't collect this, because I like the OG, but I can appreciate the company giving new collectors something to buy."

I think it's Fantastic, I'm happy for those who choose to get this and are able too. I know so many can't afford the Original so this is a good Vader for those out there who need a Mythos Vader in their Collection. I had the Original Mythos but for me Iron Studios is my Number 1

I want to see if he comes with swap out heads and the price. I have the OG, I love the OG, but compared to now, the paint for the lava reflecting off his armour and helmet could be better so I'm down for a "new" version. It does suck for people who bought the OG for after market, even if they're not exactly the same, they are similar enough, and this one does look better imo, so far at least.
I think it's absolutely amazing, this whole new mythos line is incredible and this Vader might be my favorite of the bunch.
MCE you are living in the past, statue collection is about profits. Sideshow do not want the secondary market to make any money on their previous products. Sideshow is about the money.
Just because people cherish the previous Darth Vader myethos doesn’t mean it should be worth like 2,000 dollars cause no one wants to pay that amount. Heck this gives a normal collector access to a cool looking Vader.
That's the reason why the industry is so over saturated with re-releases though. I get that there will always be new collectors in the market for popular characters which is why they make different versions of the same characters over and over but eventually it just becomes annoying and redundant and makes the long time collectors check out completely. Like look at how many Mando's hot toys has released within the past 2 years. Is that really necessary? No. Flooding the market with release after release of popular characters creates no variety.

@@zeheero Which will be those companies down falls. Collecting is big right now so many companies are trying to capitalize on it by milking popular characters new comers and casuals would want to buy. But the problem with that is the collectors that were collecting before it became popular are the ones that will be consistent consumers. Most of the new comers and casuals that are trend followers will buy maybe 1-2 pieces and call it quits then sell it off once they get bored or it's not trendy anymore. So catering to new collectors and not long time collectors is only good for shot term not long term
For me I'm definitely buying this figure. But you do have a point on the whole mustafar thing they should add a different planet to the background.
I need to see more pics, but the Iron Studios 1/4 scale piece will always be the best Vader, imo, and one I’ll never sell, lol!!

I do agree with the fact if you are going to do the same character you need to think outside the box and provide variety to the character. I would like to see Darth Vader from the Vader down storyline "All I am surrounded by is fear and dead men."
Great video and watch I think my biggest issue is they just gave us a premium statue to buy which I did but because I thought no way are they going to release another Vader but here they go. It has become like Batman safe just release another one fans will buy it. I agree mythos needs to give us something different like how about Fisto or Mace?
They should do more old republic stuff. I am currently waiting on my Darth Malgus 1/6 figure to arrive on the mail. I'm super pumped! Sideshow could really do statues or figures of Darth Revan, Darth Plagueis, Darth Nihilus, Darth Malak and even Valkorion.
I think this new Vader is a hit (but I like your reviews so I still want to hear it). I love the cape (especially that its sculpted and the X-Wing Base (Vader Down ties for the best Vader story I read in comics). The only thing I'm not a fan of is that the damage on both arms look almost identical. I'd personally like to have only one arm with the damage. Also, I'm really hoping it has less orange paint on the costume. That was the only con I had for the first Mythos Statue.
Personally I wasn't a fan of Soule's Run, especially that "Bleeding Crystal" story. My highest recommendation goes to Kieron Gillen's Vader Series. His first issue was insane. It takes place after the first Death Star was destroyed. The emperor is less than pleased and blames it on Vader so Vader is tasked with searching for the pilot responsible for its destruction. This leads Vader returning to Tatooine. Vader kills two of Jabba's Guards, waltzes in his palace and begins making demands to Jabba. Jabba wasn't impressed with Vader's 'Formalities' and orders his execution. Vader literally slaughters everybody and begins choking Jabba to death. Jabba complimented Vader's "Diplomatic Skills' and assures him he'll give him his best guy. At the end of the story, Vader casually slaughters Tusken Raiders to pass the time and he meets Jabba's Contact...Boba Fett

I have never seen a Star Wars movie and just spent 675 on this statue.As a Nft collector on Veve Im buying this in the hopes that Veve has this collectable in Nft form.

I feel Sideshow missed the boat with not just coming out with a Vader that matches up with the Ashoka premium format. This would be the 2nd time they missed that opportunity. I like your idea. I read that issue and that run for Vader was great.
I understand everything you're saying and it makes a lot of sense. however, I think this is amazing given that I don't have a Darth Vader Statue yet. Honestly, I might like this might be better than Iron studios Vader. Could def see having your opinion if I already owned 3 or 4 Vaders tho. And certainly don't think I'd care for it as much if I had the OG Mythos. Speaking of which, wonder if they'll reveal another Mythos Boba before the 12 days is up?

I can understand both sides of the arguments. For people who, for whatever reason, missed out on the first one this is a great second chance. That being said, there are several options from Sideshow when it comes to Darth Vader so they could have easily done a few other characters to introduce into the Mythos line. It's a bit of a theme this iteration of 12 Days of Sideshow. Another Thor announced, they've put the Breaker of Brimstone back up for pre-order two weeks before this was announced, a Jean Grey maquette while there is still a Premium Format is for sale. It feels a bit uninspired almost.
I had hoped for a Yoda Mythos, a Revan Mythos perhaps.
I can understand to be upset about this piece because it looks like a ver a or b statue. It is very similar.
But overall as a statue it doesn't look bad. But your not wrong

I think your problem is you have to many Darth Vader statues already, hahaha. If I already have 1 that I love I wouldnt want to get a new one. Dont ruin it for all of us that dont have one yet. I was looking for a darth vader statue and they are all the same except this one. I pre ordered it right away
I am a huge fan of Star Wars movies, and I saw the release of the first movie of the series in theaters when I was a kid. But, I don't yet own a single Vader statue, because I felt that none were really worth owning, just a figure draped in black, rather boring. I have decided to purchase this one now. It is the ONLY mass produced statue on the market that truly conveys the dynamic ferocity of this character in his prime. In my opinion, you chose the wrong statue(s) of Vader to include in your collection if you can justify not owning this one.
The original mythos in my opinion is a lot better this is a pass for me also

I hear you for sure and after listening to the whole video I went along and bought two. One for me and one for my father on a different account. This is a truly beautiful and bada$$ vader statue. The first mythos spoke to me with looking at the helmet but this looks like an angry Starkiller type vader statue which is honestly scary, and out of all the vader iterations you speak of, I haven't seen a statue of him that's like this
I'ma sell my original Mythos Vader for this one. People paying crazy prices for it & I prefer this new one so it's a win win.

probably i would feel the same if i own the original but this is one of the most unique looking vader statue out there. it is trully a collectors piece. u'll be missing out !

Yeah Jorge I understand, I'm not much of a Statue collector because I have no where to put it (although I do have a Black Panther statue that I haven't even opened ever ) but I have a question Jorge ? why don't we see a Force Unleashed statue (I mean I know they made some but I never saw them)

As someone who owns the original Mythos Vader (and paid way to much for it) it kind of makes me sad that they do a re-run. Had I known I would have waited for it instead of buying the 'old' one. But it probably also means there will be a Boba, which I missed. So meh, I guess on the whole I am happy they do these 're-runs' of popular characters.
But I do agree that they should have come up with a new pose, this is just a copy of the old one (although both look great).
I prefer these Mythos pieces because I dont have to much space, and 1/5 is a bit friendlier on the shelves than 1/4.

Happy holidays bro. Vader is So iconic it's hard to change anything. Also it's not that star wars is lacking characters to make statues but star wars bread and butter is Vader. Just like DC has bats and marvel has Spidey there gonna keep putting them out as long as we buy them. Bottom line is it's cool but is it something I Gotta have and I'm with you, I Don't. Still looks Dope👍
Just my opinion having owned and sold the original mythos piece (and never regretting it ) this looks like a major upgrade (esp after just seeing it again at celebration) . The paint effect of orange helmet /cape reflection on the OG was frankly terrible . I appreciated the sculpt at the time but this is easily as good . If you haven’t got a mythos Vader this new piece would be the obvious choice …I would have no idea why you would pay premium price for the original over it . Just being honest. With time the first mythos line stand outs for me are still the Gammy and Obi wan

I think you might want to change your stance looking at that exclusive version… not all of us can spend all that coin on the original Mythos Vader…
IMHO, the cape bugs. The Billowing is what some would consider to be…unnatural. Would have preferred if they had released a Vader PF to compliment the Ashoka Rebels PF. Would have loved a statue in that design. Would have gone great with EbenTheCollector’s print.
This company should have used a cloth cape with a bendable wire frame.👍

You do realize that Disney owns Star Wars so im assuming they have some input on what designs are done ie characters that will sell and yes I too missed out on a lot of the very cool Vader pieces and will not miss out on this very cool and dynamic Vader piece .

I've been looking for a great Darth vadar statue for about 4 years and I have the income to buy any that are currently in existence. But I never popped because I hated the choices. But this I PO'ed day one. The EX version is incredible. And let's be honest the EX version is going to sell out. So for me the value is also there. Sorry man , I hear you but can't completely agree

I understand your stance but I couldn’t disagree more. I think this completely craps on everything that has came before. You get a battle damaged look we have yet to see. The detail in this Vader is what made me want to PO this piece. I don’t own the previous Mythos so this is a no brainer for me. I understand with you owning the previous version no need for this but had I own the previous I would be a sucker for this one as well, that’s just because Vader is my favorite. I think it’s unique, the lava looks better and I think the statue poses a better shelf presence than previous version. More to work with but I’m with you on the Vader poses. He is in his iconic stance in most statues I see, be cool to see something different

even though i would likely never be able to afford anything like this, ones I would love to see would be like a battle damaged captain rex in phase 1 or 2 and other clone characters (fives, delta squad ect)
Don't like the cape at all on this piece. I'm not a big fan of fabric capes either, but this is too much. As for your suggestions, most of it is fine, but Vader needs his own saber, not some random weapons.
