- 10. Mr. T Snickers (Banned, civil rights complaints)
9. Wang Laboratories (Suggestive Brand Name)
8. The Creepy King (Sales dropped 6%)
7. Skittles Touch (Repulsive Tone, not attracting customers)
6. E.T. Video Game (millions dumped in NM land field)
5. Quiznos Rodents (Repelled customers, Commercial Cut)
4. Ayds Diet Plan (Introduced as Aids became a national scare)
3. Crispy Critters (60's disaster, round 2 in the 80's fared no better)
2. Ford Edsel (Low sales, cost Ford $2.8 Billion in 2013 dollars)
1. New Coke/Coke II (infuriated the public)
i do not want to wake up with king and his meat!!!
Well, send him my place then. 😅
and meat and cheese!
lmao seriously, who in the right mind would wake up with the king and his double crossianwich XD
Creepy as hell
Wake up with Wendy and her meat
My brother told me that when that commercial came out, he was telling a co-worker about it and he found it immediately by searching for “creepy Burger King commercial” online.
Everyone should enjoy their Ayds.
Imagine the first board meeting when the AIDS academic broke out
@@catluva74 ah, yes, the AIDS academic…

There was actually an alternative scittles add where they cut out the depressing part and made the desk smash into scittles.
I remember that one.
XXxxXXXXXXxXXxxx_RUBBOXi5sThedBestNAiume113w134124324 Your spelling of Skittles is depressing...
But I like the dark humor
Good because that part was chilling.
*Skittles
Man, never realized how morbid that skittles ad was.
King Midas all over again...
The Quiznos commercial makes it clear that the marketing people at Quiznos are constantly on coke. And not the coke in the last commercial.
Crispy critters look like they should’ve had their own show.
The cereal did come with free Golden picture books featuring the characters. They probably planned to turn it into a cartoon at some point.
Mr. T was not a bad marketing idea.
I mean, it was probs cause a dude is a dude, no matter how flamboyant they are. But I see those commercials more as immature than anything else, and not extremely offensive to be banned lmao

A sad reflection on how advertisers underestimated the intelligence of the TV viewers.
They still do
Even more today...
The Wang computer ad wasn’t a marketing mistake, it was a marketing *miracle*
What is wang
I think the name is the only reason why it's included here
“Does your store carry Ayds? I didn’t see any. If not, can you tell me where I can get some?”
The truck stop down the street has a glory hole
Talk to the mustachioed gentleman behind the store
so Flo use to sell Skittles before she sold Progressive Insurance?
How was Mr T a fail? I loved every second of it. It's a rare example of an old commercial that's genuinely funny
And the Skittles thing was hilarious.
I PITY THE FOOL WHO THINKS MR T CANT MARKET SHIT, SUCKER!!!!!!!
It was edging on toxic masculinity???
@@AyeGameBae How serious can you take it from someone like Mr. T who was so over exaggerated that he was more a joke of toxic masculinity instead of being a symbol of it.
@@richardpagel6959 Hear me out, it has nothing to do with Mr. T. He's just a performer who was contracted to do this ad. Mr. T, to the best of my knowledge never bullied or berated another man. I didn't like the creative idea of bullying another man because he's not "running like a real man"
Was #5 actually legitimate?
Yup, actually aired in the US around 2001-2002
I remember seeing it on TV quite a few times, lol.
I never saw it and so glad I didn't lmao
Sheehy yes I remember it like it was yesterday. It wasn’t 2001, those commercials came out around 2004!
yes. that commercial guaranteed I never ate at Quiznos
I loved Skittles Touch.
I never eated a skittle, but i like dark humor.

I assume this product was before Aids disease.
Aid also means help or support. They probably named it that way because it helps with weight loss
@@emmavanderveeke412 Honestly, with childhood obesity running rampant, we should give AYDS to every child in America
I absolutely LOVED the Skittles ad!!! Although this one was a bit darker, it was the only one of these ads that was broadcast in Australia.
😂 They cut out early with the Quizno’s one. They have a pepper bar!
Oh my god, I thought I'd see that Quiznos Subs commercial again. xD
9 - Ethnic name, not bad marketing
6 - Bad game, not bad marketing
2 - Product failure, not bad marketing
1 - Bad drink, not bad marketing
The rest, I agree are terrible commercials.
I think Coke was on there because he said "cock" right at the end.
Frank West It was probably because they said "Pepsi" or because it resembled a "big brother" type of scenario
Coke is not a bad drink :) But I do think RC cola is kinda what I prefer over Coca-Cola.
@@Thesmus , Coca-Cola is awesome; the New Coke was a major botch up.
#4 is Ayds diet..
Wang... ~snicker~
Oh gawd, not the rat creatures!! I used to work at a Quiznos and those things on the posters was the only thing that freaked me out about the place... it felt like they were watching me work and it was just downright creepy!
Those commercials freaked me out so much as a kid that even as an adult I have never eaten at a Quiznos. And I was the "weird kid" lol
Aw, the poor sponge monkeys. I loved them in a freaky kind of way LOL
@@Nenezilla I still love them
it is the quiznos subs for real or a joke???
Sadly, it was for real. Who in their right minds thought that was a good idea!?
neela wiz they were on a $10 budget.
Maybe it was a local comerical
I actually saw it on TV back then.. I guess u can say I ain't eating there for the life of me.
It’s amazing you hush up
Remember back in the day when they had those commercials where people would say “ that’s so gay” and the cashier or a bystander would say that’s so ( whatever the girls name were) then it cut to someone saying “ When you say that’s so gay do you realize what you say? - knock it off”
Yes...
That Crispy Critters ad actually worked. I begged my mom to buy me some after I watched that commercial. Tasted like animal crackers lol
"With our new electronic mailing system..." Jesus lol 😂
What about that line provoked your response?
3:10 Oh there's going to be comments about this one.
Mr. T is always a marketing success. He should be in every ad.
For real. I wanted one as soon as the commercial went off
I PITY THE FOOL who...nevermind
This is making me remember memories im not physically old enough to have
The Skittles one was super dark... How do you go to a meeting one day about new advertising ideas and say, hey, how about a guy whose touch turns everything into Skittles? Yeah, and how about we tell people how fucking terrifying it is???
"Edsels' exclusive Teletouch Drive has taken the push out of buttons" (pushes button).
The Mr. T Snickers ad wasn't a fail! It was hilarious!
if it wasn't sexist it'd be top tier he acted well in it#
@@justbgusing adjective buzzwords doesn’t make you right. Just stay over on r/feminism and complain 24/7 like they do.
Exactly, a commercial is successful if it ends up increasing or maintaining a company's revenue. I haven't really watched TV in the past 15 years, and am amazed at how the same theme songs and catch phrases are still being used, dull commercials you wouldn't pay much attention to. Apparently it works!
0:27
Thank you Mr. T for the bountiful bounty of free Snickers.
This collection isn't about whether the commercials are cute or not, they're commercial campaigns that cost the companies millions in loss.
My fool are you kidding? Those Quiznos rats me spend a billion dollars there personally
The ayds diet plan...oh lord.
I loved that skittles commercial
OH MY GOD THE QUIZNOS COMMERICAL IS AMAZING
10. I suppose too many sissies complained about this one. I found it funny!
9. Wang is the last name of the company's founder. According to its wikipedia page it survived for a good 40 years and was even a leading company in the 80s.
8. The voice acting was probably its main downfall.
7. Hm, I kinda agree with this one. I remember this ad to be thought provoking when it aired but I don't remember buying skittles in response to it.
6. The ad itself makes the game look a lot better than it is, so really, it's a good commercial and a successful one.
The reason so many cartridges were dumped is because ol' Spielberg insisted in the contract that Atari manufacture something like a few million more cartridges than there were Atari 2600 consoles ever built. The infamy behind ET 2600 wasn't the fault of the commercial or even Atari (besides not having a backbone); Spielberg's massive ego forced them to make too damn many copies of the game.
It otherwise would've just been yet another of hundreds of mediocre videogame adaptation that sold well to be quickly forgotten once the movie isn't relevant.
5. Ok, I agree here. What the hell were they thinking?
4. A case of bad timing.
3. *shrug*
2. Another case of bad timing, theory has it that if Edsel had been introduced in the early 60s (not the economic downturn of the late 50s where Edsel was actually introduced); it would've done much better and maybe even survived until much later on. But hey, hindsight is only 20/20. Besides, many of the design choices that were made with the Edsels were done by other companies not long afterward.
1. Funny thing about this failure, coke became the leading pop brand after this as a result of people becoming attached to the original coke. Product failure for sure, but it propelled the company to domination, I mean, coka cola wasn't doing very well prior to new coke.
The issue with the Edsel is that it caught fire randomly
@@innertuber4049 Smells like confirmation bias. Every car ever back then had a small chance of catching fire at random even just idling. This was not unique to Edsel. My dad almost inherited a dodge duster back when he was just becoming an adult and the thing caught fire just idling.
Dont blame sissies ... nerd
"Wang"
I think the lady in #7 is Flo from Progressive! The guy must’ve made her so uncomfortable she moved from retail to insurance.
Greg Atkins Yes, that was Flo. 🙂 Her _real_ name is 'Stephanie Courtney'. Her very first commercial _ever_ was a Bud Light commercial that aired during the Super Bowl in 1999. She has also done commercials for Glade, General Mills & Weinerschnitzel.
I actually liked Crispy Critters when they came out in the 80's.
i ate the ayds and its fantastic!, now my family just visits me to see how im losing weigth because of the disease!
PLEASE...The KING at Burger King was a huge huge success. In fact he's still around doing commericals in 2018.
My boyfriend worked for Wang, whose slogan was "My Wang does wonders," before they went belly up.
I will always maintain that The Burger King is/was the best American marketing character I've ever seen. He's genuinely hilarious.
To me he's just ultra creepy.
I mean. He....uh. you know , funny like that clown from IT.
True, I cheated in making this collection, because each commercial needed to be entertaining in some complicity. You're right about effective marketing, though I would question the huge sales part. ET almost took Atari down...
The Skittles ad is running NOW (August 2013) in the UK, it's at least the second time around too, it was run for a time some months back too.
0:50 dude pressed 5 and hacked London. I’m sold.
2:57 at first, i tought it was fan made
For various reasons, each of these commercial marketing campaigns ended with the companies losing thousands, if not millions in revenue. If I did a solid "worst commercials ever", most wouldn't be entertaining to watch.
The Mr T commercial was awesome. Whoever found it offensive needs to back home to their Mama for comfort.
4:49 so that's where Eminem got his idea for Rap God
I don't mean to nit pick, but isn't this more about advertising than marketing?
Can't finish video, going to buy a Snickers.
The sub commercial scared me
You wake up next to some creepy dude wearing a burger King mask and instead of calling the police you eat his sandwich?
I’m on an iPad watching this right now. The app crashed when I tried to watch the first ad. I think its a sign.
whoever complained about the mr T one needs to sort themselves out
I remember my brother had the Quiznos creaters as a screen saver on his computer when I was a kid; the Wang computer looks like the ones in the Fallout games; and I have the ET game for the gameboy
Fallout games.... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My reply was specifically to: "However, a couple of them actually brought back childhood memories and weren't so bad." I actually cheated a bit to make this collection entertaining, since E.T., Crispy Critters, and New Coke were actually effective commercials for disliked products, and Ayds had bad timing for a product name. Many of the other dud commercials were annoying, distasteful, or dull.
How is ayds bad ?
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤣🤣🤣
Good collection. Entertaining clip. The Mr. T concept was a winner. Especially the caption at the end, "Get Some Nuts".
That WANG is shooting information all the place
The Quiznos commercials always cracked me up. They were hilarious. The last one with Max Headroom is one of my favorites.
“…and now, with our new electronic mail system…” Can we just set aside that it’s called Wang for a moment and just reflect on how something a lot of us use everyday was once new and cutting-edge?
When i was little that quiznos commercial scared the shit out of me
yes AIDS no i mean ayds
(A) All of these commercials are entertaining on some level, and (B) cost the companies that marketed them millions in loss. If a commercial did not fit both of these factors, I didn't include them.
How can you tell if an ad caused lost revenue?
The skittles commercial suggests that skittles could be infinitely generated. If touching anything turns it into skittles (plural) then touching a singular skittle would cause it to transform into multiple skittles.
Mr T.... I still associate him with snickers. That was a great ad campaign.
That Mr. T commercial was good.
Maybe I'm missing something, but some of these were my favourite commercials years ago. Mr.T? Speed walking IS stupid. Burger King - awkward and awesome. Even the Quiznos one was so bizarre that I loved it.
I genuinely love all the coke commercials featuring Max Headroom
The AYDS diet plan.......
I'm sorry if I misunderstood, but your (I guess only) informational reply about financial loss came across more as a rebuke for finding it funny than just information, indefinitely dampening my enthusiasm over this whole thing.
What kind of Snickers was it that was shown at the end of the Snickers commercial?
I have never seen that kind in the UK?
That skittles ad was disturbing lol
#9 wang, I see what you did there with the name
Wang Laboratories was a computer company founded in 1951 by Dr. An Wang and Dr. G. Y. Chu. The company was successively headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and finally in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Do some research. It's hardly a suggestive name unless you're 12 years old...
This list is bollocks. Quiznos ad is brilliant.
Those Quiznos commercials! Lol
Max Headroom was always annoying! I wonder what "genius" dreamed him up?!
3:30 best commercial I have seen and best voice love it 10/10
Crispy Critters was the name first given to Viet Cong who were obliterated by napalm because of the way their skin crackles, pops and sizzles like crispy bacon. Think about that next time you sit down to a nice bowl of cereal or eat a piece of bacon. (now off topic from the video but still on my topic) Hamburger was described as a body that was torn apart by machinegun fire. Cheese was used as a synonym for mold or fungus. Think about this next time you order a bacon cheeseburger.
I thought those Burger King commercials were creepy.
Many of today’s marketing mistakes makes these look good.
Lol I didn't know Skittles made a commercial that was based on Midas's touch
Love the twilight zone intro 👌
I really dont see anything wrong with the snickers commercial. most Americans always find something to get offended by -_-
I love the skittles and crispy crunch commercials! well done!
At think that the Sponge Monkeys killed Quiznos...which is bad, because I love this Sandwich shop...
There's plenty of Quiznos where I live.
omg i remember seeing the skittles commercial!! i remember also being pretty disturbed by it lol
that quiznos commercial is the best thing ive ever seen. it reminds me of early 2000s internet even though i never saw it before today
The Snickers one was funny, and the Burger King one, and the Skittles one (Flo's in it), and the Quiznos one
Completely forgot about that weird fucking Quiznos one
me too! the Quiznos critters!!!
Take that speed-walka !!
Flo is in a Skiddles commercial, neeto.
No joke I liked the quizno sub commercials when I would see them on tv

*ACHIEVEMENT* : you just unburied a lost memory
"This is the Edsel." Oh dear. I know which Automobile I will not be purchasing this year.
Nothing wrong with these ads pretty funny.
I still have the pillowcases they sold from burger king after that comercial. love it.
Why is this called 'Americans will try anything?' The Snickers advert was Australian and we had the Skittles and Burger King adverts here in the UK.
I don't understand how the number two was bad advertising.
