@Jennifer Lynn Lyon that's odd, as the smaller Suzuki was called the Samurai here, then became the Santana when they made them in spain. The Vitara was the 'bigger' brother. Given the opportunity, I ask owners of 4x4s with snorkels "How long does it take to dry out the carpets?". None have ever given me an answer as it's obvious they have never drowned their truckster. A snorkel without a carpet delete is simply more off road warrior poser tinsel. Good to see them being used here...almost. I hope they have their axle, transfer case and transmission breathers raised along with a spare alternator at home.
Yes all the dunkings must be very good at forcing water into hot drive shaft and wheel bearings as they are cooled quickly not mention soggy wet floor covering rotting out body work. The results of water being sucked into the motor can wreck it completely.
Ooo. I bet that you're a lot of fun at parties. It's all very well having an engine snorkel on a 4x4, but what about extended breathers for the diff, transfer box and gearbox? A hot diff will suck water in through the breather when it hits the water (as it cools), leading to water getting into oily places it really shouldn't!
If thought the diff and the gearbox were sealed. If they had breather holes, oil would leak out. The fuel tank obviously needs to have breather hole. If it didn't, a vacuum would be created as the fuel is used up.
@@simontay4851 Diffs, transfer boxes and gearboxes all have breathers. They’re to stop pressure building up inside when the oil gets hot. Usually a plastic pipe that terminates at a point in the engine bay, or for the rear diff somewhere as high as possible underneath. Off-roaders extend the breathers so that can,t become submerged when wading in water. Even taking them as high as the top of a snorkel. When a hot diff hits water it cools quickly causing air to be sucked back in through the breather, even on a LR Defender the rear diff breather pipe is only short and terminates perhaps 600mm above ground level at best.
