  • We are really, really, really missing Disneyland and more specifically we are missing Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge... So we decided to make a homemade Ronto Wrap!! In case you don't know, the Ronto Wrap (Roasted Pork, Grilled Pork Sausage, Peppercorn Sauce, tangy Slaw, wrapped in Pita) is the most ICONIC food of all of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge!
Galaxy’s Edge Ronto Wrap Recipe - copycat (serves 4)
    Tangy Slaw
    1 Cup Green Cabbage shredded
    1/2 Cup Carrots shredded
1 1/2 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
    1/2 tsp Dijon Mustard
    1/2 tsp Dried Basil
    1/2 tsp Sugar
    1/2 Tbsp Olive Oil
    Salt and Pepper to taste
    Peppercorn Sauce
1/2 Tbsp Black Peppercorns Crushed (If you don't have whole peppercorns on hand just use black pepper)
    1/2 Cup Heavy Cream
1/4 Cup Beef Stock You can sub this for chicken or vegetable stock
    1 Shallot finely diced
    1 Clove Garlic finely diced
    1/2 Tbsp Butter
    1/2 tsp Worcestershire
    salt to taste
    Ronto Wrap
4 Mild Pork Sausages see notes
1 Pork Tender Loin about 2 pounds
    3 Cloves Garlic diced
    3 Tbsp Olive Oil
    3 ribs of celery (optional)
    4 Pita Breads
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Mix together olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper, and spread the mixture over the pork loin using a brush.
Place the meat onto a meat rack and roast until the internal temperature is between 145 - 160 degrees F (about 20-25 per pound of pork).
Remove from oven, cover with aluminum foil, and allow to rest for at least 10 minutes, before slicing into 1/4" thick slices.
Shred carrots & green cabbage (or use cole slaw premix as we did)
In a medium bowl combine, carrots, green cabbage, apple cider vinegar, dijon mustard, basil, sugar, and mix to evenly coat. Add olive oil and salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate until ready to assemble.
Add shallots to a medium frying pan with melted butter over medium heat, and cook until fragrant and translucent, about 3 minutes.
Add in garlic & peppercorns and cook until fragrant and the edges of the garlic begin to lightly brown, about 1-2 minutes.
Add in Worcestershire & beef stock and stir to fully combine.
Pour in heavy cream, salt to taste. Bring mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cook about 10 minutes, stirring frequently until the mixture thickens.
Cook pork sausages according to directions on your package.
Assemble: 3-4 slices of the roasted pork in the middle of toasted pita bread. Place sausage on top. Add about 1/3 of a cup of slaw on top of the sausage. Top with peppercorn sauce.

One thing I love about these videos. It proves that Disneyland has good food. It may be a bit pricey, but it's on a totally different level compared to most amusement park foods. I have a severe dairy allergy and they made me a pizza with non-dairy cheese and made it on separate equipment. It took a bit to get, but oh man was it good.

I’m really enjoying the virtual tours of Galaxy’s Edge, during this Covid-19 plague adventure we’re all on.
I’d really like to hear some “blooper stories”, about things you’ve seen at GE, during your visits.
    Cast members breaking character?
    Angry parents?
    Drunk visitors?
    You know, some funny gossip.

So, we did a May the 4th Be With You celebration. We made a bunch of Star Wars food. And, we used the same recipe for the Ronto Wrap. It was amazing! I want to suggest maybe using a kielbasa if you make it next time. I only had turkey kielbasa in the house so I used that. OMG! Incredible. That all being said we have not ventured to Galaxy’s Edge yet. So, I can’t compare. Our next trip to DW is in Nov 2020. Fingers crossed that we will be able to make it.
My kids and I definitely want to make it again. My husband missed out on our MT4BWY celebration. He decided to have a heart attack during a pandemic. Long story short, he is ok. He is back with us and happy and healthy. We have to recreate the day for him soon!
Can’t wait to see you guys back in the parks!

When I saw the whole peppercorns, I was saying to the computer, "NOT WHOLE PEPPERCORNS!" I am so glad you realized the mistake. What I LOVE about your channel is you take Ordinary things to the next level. You have the perfect name, great chemistry, and are truly wonderful to watch. On a side note, I watch my youTube post when we went to Galaxy's Edge just to play back this wonderful memory. I look forward to getting back to travel and create an epic new normal. Thank you for bringing joy in our lives with your post my fellow "Skywalkers."

They've said in articles that they use Portuguese sausages for the Rontos, and when my sister and I tasted it, we agreed that it was close to a Portuguese chouriço/linguica in flavor (note: these are different from Spanish or Mexican Chorizos)-- like Spanish chorizo, this sausage has paprika, garlic, black pepper, and salt, but is heavier on the non-paprika ingredients and includes wine, as well. Even if you can't get portuguese sausage, you'll have a closer taste with Spanish chorizo or if you look for those ingredients

    • @OrdinaryAdventures
      @OrdinaryAdventures  4 года назад +1

Ah good to know. We couldn’t find Portuguese sausages in stock anywhere but next time that happens maybe we’ll try Spanish chorizo.

Looks like you did a great job making these with what you had available to you and they tasted good, right? So, that's a major plus! :)
That being said, here are a couple suggestions in case you try to make these again.
Make your cole slaw sauce and pour it over the cole slaw, don't just dump everything into the bowl of cabbage and carrots. Why? Simple, if you mix it all together, your sauce will have a better chance to get all the flavors combined, the sugar will be more likely to dissolve, and it'll make it just easier all around. You can make the sauce in the bowl you plan to put the slaw in, just toss the veggies on top and stir well.
For the sausages, I'd suggest trying kielbasa or brats. They might have the flavor you're looking for in sausages for this. Italian sausages are heavy in the italian seasonings such as thyme, fennel, and oregano. They're great with a very specific kind of flavor and not much else, in my opinion. Brats, kielbasa, and even summer sausage are all more versatile.
If you do try this again with different sausages, please let us know how it turned out! :)

You probably wanted a smoked sausage, which is pre-cooked, rather than a raw sausage to get a similar taste. Check out "Eckrich Smoked Sausage" it kinda looks like a large hot dog.
I also doubt that Disney is using pork tenderloin for this - it's probably a simple pork roast that's sliced. I also believe that the Ronto wrap is using a peppercorn dressing (like salad dressing) rather than a sauce.

    Loved this. More please.

A bratwurst sounds like it would be good in that. That looked delicious.

The hotdog almost looks like a linguica dog which we have where I'm from. Not sure what the wrap tastes like yet but you get them from famous foods new england. It's a pourtuguese sausage. It's killer.

So it's basically like a really well dressed bratwurst in my home state of Wisconsin. Great homemade sauerkraut, barely seasoned but tight fatter hotdog (brat), and creamy spicy mustard (with real mustard seeds, subbing for your cracked - whole? - peppercorns). Big addition is the roasted and seasoned pork loin. Hmmmm, pork on pork!

its amazing seeing the guy with no protection manning the check out. iam in quarantine in italy and the check outs in italy are behind perspex and wearing a mask and gloves as the customers need to also as well as getting your temperature checked on entry to the store. and controlled numbers allowed in any store at once.

I work for Walmart and management honestly doesn’t care. We get masks and gloves but it’s very limited. We’re suppose to be getting sneeze guards for the registers but they haven’t come in yet. They don’t care about their associates they only care about profit.

    yes! blue milk!
i found How To Drink's channel and he does a vid on the blue milk:
    ruclips.net/video/V3Y-2xRBW7E/видео.html
i am waiting on one ingredient to arrive and then i'm going to attempt it. i couldn't find a video for green milk (at least, not one i could finish), and nothing for toydaria swirl.
best of luck you two - may the force be with you!

It looks so good! I can’t believe there are only 2 recipes for Ronto wraps. But I can see Disney keeping some of their popular treat recipe hush hush. Like maybe the sauce is made in one place and then the Cole slaw mix is made in a completely different building just to keep it top secret. So tread carefully guys.

  • @TheVas76
    @TheVas76 4 года назад +1

I pretty much did the exact same thing as you guys, except I just mixed the cole slaw in a bag with dressing in a jar. I'm not a fan of it at all either. Though, it is good on the wrap. But, I'm use to it being from Pittsburgh. We put slaw and fries on our sandwiches made famous by Primani Bros. A local restaurant. I also made some blue milk to go with the wraps.
