Dad you served our country so well in the USAF 527TH figther bomber squardon Every time i hear this gorgeous song it i think of you...you were an angel flying to close to the ground....Leave me if you need too i will ALWAYS remember an angel flying to close to the ground
The man is an example of greatness. All the parts that make the sum-total of Will Nelson = more than 100%. This song is a masterpiece. He delivers it better than anyone can. His guitar playing is hypnotic. Fantastic!
My wife passed this year. She was my Angel flying too close to the ground. She blessed my life for 8 wonderful years until God called her home. See you soon my Love.
Willie sure brought me to love country music and my other hero Merle.best of friends.i thank u willie for still touvhong my heart and of course my soul! You are icon to my family.i lost a cousin she loved u beyond words.so this is for her!!
I had the great privilege of being there on that night. The queue went back for miles waiting to get in the venue and It snowed like crazy, but nobody seemed to mind. Willie' is sheer genius.
I was also in that audience - with a spare ticket next to me. If I had a pound for everybody that would have paid me for that ticket, I could have retired long ago :)
There are a lot of great singers and a lot of great songs when you want to listen. But when you want to feel what you're hearing, listen to Willie, no one can do this better. I've done exactly this for over forty years and he only gets better. Willie and trigger will be around to enjoy for a long, long time. God love him.
I consider Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt, and John Prine the Holy Trinity of songwriters, at least those who could best bring out feelings (I might give the edge to Townes and John over Willie, I don't know there all three so damn good). Bob Dylan takes fourth, but probably higher for overall songwriting in general. There are some songwriters in pop, dance, alternative, etc. that are quite good as well, don't really have to love the genre to detect great song writing, but then I won't listen to "Ganster Rap" for long. Townes "For the Sake of the Song" kinda sums up what a great songwriter should feel about his of her music.
This was my dad's song. He taped it on a VHS tape 20 years ago and played it to death. I thought at the time WOW what a song and I have listened to Willie since then. He died in 1996 and every time I hear that song it reminds me of him. Class
Such a hauntingly, sad, and beautiful song. Willie is as original as they come. He and his music are timeless. They will live on forever .. Love ya Willie..
This man sure can sing and write a song, like nobody's business. I love everything that he does, but this is one of my favorites. It's just so cleverly written...I love it. It's also very bitter sweet. He's a real talent. Peace.
I am learning this song today. I am an excellent singer, and was strumming my guitar, and the beginning of this song creeped out from my memory. And, I had to look it up on the internet and learn it. Someday, I will post my version of this on the net. Yes, I love Willie. I learned a lot about singing from him. He is one of my mentors. The way he hovers his voice over words, is so beautiful. It brings the emotion out on all of his songs. My voice is much lower than his. I truly love his singing and the great artists who accompany him. It is funny. I have always had a great voice. It mesmerizes people when they hear me. But, until the internet came along, I never realized the talent I had, as now I can learn songs quickly on the internet, and I can compare performances of professionals. The facts are, that there really are not many 'professionals' who sing all that well. But, of course, Willie is one of the greats. I hope he will 'hang around a while', as I will miss him sorely when he 'flys away'.
Hello Everyone.... I love Willie. When I was young and NOT a country girl I didnt understand Willie...... took me years to really appreciate him. My husband of 28 years absolutely thought Willie rocked! I am so appreciative of his talents and more for sharing with the world. Willie... you rock!!!! and even more you are a REAL person... thank you for staying true to who you really are.... God Bless!! Connie
My ex wife (who I still love with all my heart) passed away 4 days ago in Beirut, Lebanon with colon cancer. Willie was right at the top of her list of favorite American singers, and this song was her favorite song period. After I finish grieving, I am going out into the Blue Ridge and pray for my Angel to fly down to me, at least for a little while. Eliana, I love you so much. Tell God to go easy on me, for a little while anyway. My heart aches, but Willie just soothed it just a tad.
I was at this concert just two months after our house was severely damaged by fire; this took our minds of it for a while. They were all great that night Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings but this song stole the night.
I think this song was written in Memory of his son who passed away many years ago. Willie is the best. Such a down to earth good ol boy from Texas. Love you Willie
It's amazing how many people have sung or recorded this song. It always reminds me of my husband who played the pedal Steel and died 3 years ago in 2019. Such beautiful memories Willie. I remember your concert in Aberdeen, Scotland many years ago.
I've been lucky enough to see Willie live 5 times in concert, The best one was on a gulf course in Napa California in the daytime and I took many great photos 35 mm , for my memories of Willie, He is totally awesome !!!
Godbless this wonderful man ____ he has brought so much soul for many many years and he truly did it his way and we the winners. He certainly plays a jazz guitar __ wow
Willie Nelson,What Can I Say He's An Awesome Guitar Player,Songwriter ,Singer. He's Wrote Thousands Of Songs Crazy,Night Life,Etc.. Outlaw All The Way He And Waylon Made Nashville Set Up And Listen!
Even though our dialects are very different as with any other language, the Scottish knew a pretty song when they heard it. Willie, I don't think I will ever get over saving my money to get to Columbia, SC from Augusta, GA 70 -plus whole miles. Emmy was supposed to be there too. The three of us could not believe it, we kept driivng around the marquee hoping it would say, just kidding, concert not cancelled. Thank you for sending us our money back and all, but dang, we were so heartsick.
Thank you...I curse no one or nothing...She is the rock to my heart. Where she goes I will surely one day follow. The pain is the hardest thing to deal with at these moments. I am coming up on the one year anniversary of her passing and each day grows colder as it aproaches.
So very sorry..i have two young sons and i can't imagine your pain..this is the most touching song i've ever heard and certainly my favorite..what a wonderful tribute to your son...
Willie being Willie; he thoroughly understands his words, and those steel strings on his acoustic guitar, Trigger, pushes it a bunch more. Life is good.
I always think of my first grandbaby, Amanda, when I here this song, and I want to dedicate it to her, she put up a good fight to live but passed away at the tender age of 3 months due to complications from a premature birth.
i cry when I hear it...all these years later...I lost my one true Love the year this came out...there's been nobody to compare since. I want this played when I die. Then dump my ashes into the wind, from the back of a 57 Panhead
by far my fav willie song though there all great.iv seen him bout 6 times . have his autograph & 1 of his hats. this song reminds me of my mom love her

Absolute Truth
Love that man and his Spirit!
Elvis and Willie are two halves in one!!!
Who are the 21 idiots who gave thumbs down to this incredible classic song?
Voice, (gypsy) guitar sound, composition, timing, emotion, guitar solo, everything about this performance is sheer perfection. And what a person.
