This week we're visiting Brooklyn Hardscape, one of the only dedicated Aquascaping shops in the United States. It's located in Brooklyn, NY so if you're in the New York City area it's worth a visit! Shop owner Kevin Kelly gives us a tour of a few of his aquascapes. We get an upclose look at a 360 degree aquascape, a just-created scape in a classic ADA rimless aquarium, a tiny 3 gallon aquascape which is perfect inspiration for any nano aquarium. We also get a quick look at some of the plants Brooklyn Hardscape sells as well as the beautiful glass supplies.

I’ve been to Brooklyn Hardscape and it’s kind of amazing to have such a beautiful shop full of aquascapes in a warehouse in the middle of Brooklyn. Definitely worth a visit. Thanks for the video Alex!
I doubt it's one of the only aquascaping shops in the US. There's plenty in California alone.
There aren’t many that are dedicated exclusively to aquascaping. This is the only one within driving distance of me, and it’s still a 5 hour drive.
@@TankTested Most of them are probably all congested into the same areas. I know for sure we have some here in California and some in Seattle. If you ever visit San Francisco, you should drop by these places. They're all within an hour driving distance.

San Jose, CA
- Aqua Lab Aquaria (ADA/UNS distributor)
- Neptunes Aquatics (mostly huge badass reef tanks, but they have planted tanks too)

pretty cool you do the conversion of emersed to submersed. I've had a rough introductory year into the planted aquarium genre thanks to that. especially in low tech setup.

There is an "actual" Aquascaping retail shop right outside Orlando. Super duper small showroom; talking miniscule, but jam packed full of aquascaping goodness...and no appointment needed.

I'd like to buy the ADA Super Jet Filter ES 600 , I noticed it is rated for 100v. Will this be safe to buy and use on USA 120v?
I've been searching for a vintage Metaframe tank for years. Sometimes I find one on eBay, but the shipping (to Denmark) is so expensive, but I really love the frame. Normally I hate framed aquariums so these tanks could be an option for me.

Kir U check re-use centers; i found 2 metaframe tanks randomly in 3months just shopping. Couldnt pass'em up; 5.5gal for $5 + 10gal for $10. im super into them now; keeping my eyes peeled for the next! i think they're the best tanks evermade

Thanks, I'm checking eBay on a regular basis. I found one two years ago, but the shipping to Denmark was ridiculous (about 250$) and i didn't have the money then.
wow i bet; theyre pretty heavy with all that metal and slate bottom. i bet some grandparents have one waiting 4U really close in theyre attic! if you have craiglist you could also make a post saying "in search of metaframe tanks!" happy searching 108 Blessings
Don’t forget Aquarium Design Group (ADG) in Houston.
ADG is a dedicated commercial application and I would not consider them a classic aquascape shop although they technically are they are not like this one or the other shops you see in Europe!

ADG is awesome! i'm from austin and anytime I get the chance to go to houston, I visit the shop. It's like a mini ada gallery in niagata japan. My goal is to go to aqua forest aquarium in cali.

we have Aqua lab Aquaria in San Jose and Aqua Forest in San Francisco . The Lotus Aquarium in Lawndale is a nice little shop . Tropics is my LFS in SLO . i want to rep all the mom and pops I find in are golden state but I'll stop here.

I was just there two weeks ago. Great plant selection, guy knows his stuff about plants too. Aquarium Zen just completed a triangular aquarium set up for Amazon. I think it was like 600 gallons or something to that effect. The walls in the room are living walls too. Real cool set up.

I would love to support this business, especially given how most of the aquarium in NYC is kind of 80s...
I like their way of going, we definitely need more professional store that carry these aquarium without those ugly black plastic edges, but the plant on sell is too few in number. They need to carry more moss, bucep, some algae eater as well.
BTW, anyone used those algae killer thing in some of their show tank? I used one, the original one before it was cool. It "shocks" my shrimps when they are on the disc and acted like a stopper on breeding until I removed it. Does anyone have the same problem?
I dunno but I prefer my tanks with less visible apparatus.

the tanks look great, but i will never understand this trend towards making scapes look like science experiments by showcasing all that equipment. i had to laugh when he said the tank was designed to be viewed from all angles, and three sides where covered with equipment. i actually did laugh when he said he liked how that ADA bubbler looked great.
there is nothing peaceful about looking at ADA logos everywhere and tubes (no matter how glassy and expensive they are) in your tank. i really think it's part of this hipster culture where you want to show off all your expensive "unique" gear.
don't get me wrong, your layouts look great - and i'm sure loads of people don't agree with me - but how can you have tanks that are designed to show off what you can do when it's all equipment. part of the challenge is hiding the equipment to hide the fact that you aren't really looking at a slice of nature. i get that you have to make compromises to do that, but that's part of being a professional aquascaper.
i think it's a shame that so many people who are new planted tanks only see this part of the hobby - because these seem to be the only people who like making videos.
Agreed. Thats also why in the Netherlands when you enter in a competition, not only does all your gear have to be in the tank and running, you have take steps to hide it as best you can. In fact, placement in the room etc even plays a part in the rating.
Was thinking the same thing. The tank looks nice. But the equipment looks horrible. Why do people on RUclips says things so loosely and expect you to believe. "Designed for 360 viewing " that's a joke. But he tanks look good minus equipment.

Adding a few stones and plants is NOT aquascaping and every tank in this video appears instant to me. There is obvisually no deeper thought behind it.
