    Im so glad i didnt really make any big mistakes when i started my investment journey last year. So far I’ve just been sticking small amounts of money (think 1-5 bucks) into companies im sure will continue to exist for the next 5 years and if the stocks do well, i hold on. If not, i reinvest the bad ones into the good ones so i can get higher gains. It’s not fool proof, but i did gain about $40 from putting in $20 into NVIDIA earlier this year so that was pretty nice.

    PLEASE --Can you explain what "coupon" means when looking up Treasury bills, notes, bonds on Fidelity. It doesn't match up with yield so it's confusing. I always pick "Zero" because i understand that one. Please do a video that explains Fidelity coupon/frequency vs Yield. Thank you So much!!!

    • @kothuriR
      @kothuriR 7 месяцев назад +1

      Coupon is the predetermined interest rate you get every month guaranteed. The yield changes based on your purchase price of your bond. If you purchase the bond at a discount you get a higher yield than coupon rate. If you purchase the bond at a premium you get less "yield" than the coupon rate.

    Your videos are awesome. However, when I go to the Fidelity site and look at municipal bonds, my screen is different from yours. For example, I don’t have a “tax equivalent yield” column. What is “no bid” vs the “ask” bid? Can you explain how to look at the “spread to treasuries” figure under the “price and performance” tab?

    • @DiamondNestEgg
      @DiamondNestEgg  8 месяцев назад

      If you follow the steps in the video, you'll get to the same screens. The ask price is the price you pay to buy the bond & the bid price is the price you get when you sell the bond.

    Hi Jen
    I don't know where else to put this question so here goes.
    If I purchase a T-bill from Schwab, especially a 4 to 17 week T-bill, there is usually a one week gap between when the t-bill matures and the settlement date of the next t-bill purchase I can perform of the same maturity... roll-over by hand. This can significantly reduce the annual interest rate on a several month t-bill.
    Are there any strategies or auto-rollover setups that allow a rollover into the same maturity t-bill without a 1-week gap between maturity and the next settlement date for the same duration t-bill. Thanks and I think your channel is awesome!!

    Thank you. I have been looking at Agency bonds for Federal Home Loan Banks which your previous video stated is exempt from State income tax. I have been looking at one with a 6.27% yield with first call date about 6 months out. I feel this is a win as it is higher than a 6 month T bill, so if it is called, I'll still be earning more than if I purchased a 6 month T bill. Is my calculation correct or am I missing something?

    • @DavidLitman-ph9lu
      @DavidLitman-ph9lu 11 месяцев назад +1

      You're not considering the risk of the bond not getting called. If I am correct, the bond you are looking at matures on 10/10/2030, seven years from now. Are you prepared to hold to maturity if rates keep going up? If rates shoot up to 8 or 10%, which is not unheard of, you will be stuck at 6.27%, and if you sell then, it would be at a loss.

    Sorry if this is obvious to some, but I am totally a newb when it comes to bonds. The muni you chose shows what appears to be (screen is a bit fuzzy) a purchase price of a little over $108 per $100 face value, so it appears you are paying a premium of just over 8% over the face value to make the purchase. Does the tax equivalent yield shown in the chart somehow factor in that premium, or do you need to adjust that number yourself to account for the actual tax-free yield you will get over the life of the bond? Maybe treated as a fee paid?

I’d be very careful even insured bonds are dangerous if many municipalities default the insurance companies will also go broke just like the homeowners insurance companies did in Florida after the hurricane hit. 🤷‍♂️
