Talking about eggs specifically, I checked some of my orders from early 2022 from Waitrose delivery and eggs prices are higher by 40 percent now. I also remember there was a tomato crisis in summer - only 2 packs per person were allowed in my local Tesco.

Thank you so much for sharing such an interesting video, Jonny! We kind of having also some egg-issues here in Norway. I shop at Lidl here in the UK and have seen empty shelves where the eggs should be. They're back, the prices are up and rationing (3 cartons max) is in place. Milk that was 55p is now 90p. There are shortages and some items like jam and cream biscuits and toffee biscuits have disappeared completely.
Eggs are at the poultry farm, the same price as before. But prices have soared in stores, due to the greed of Retail Chains. We have these networks, which are still owned by foreign companies
From an egg to an egg laying chicken you need 6 months. If they can keep up supplying themselves with refrigerators and microwaves to dismantle them for chips to put in their missiles, for years now, I am sure they can figure out how to produce more eggs.

There are NO Western media who think Russia will collapse because of an egg shortage. The egg shortage is merely an outlying indicator of a possibly failing domestic economy. This is a straw man argument. Russia SHOULD be entirely self sufficient in food, as it is a massive food exporter. Yet it imports eggs. One has to ask why?

In Moscow it’s much higher. Btw, I run a construction business here outside of the city and my construction workers make 90,000 to 125,000 rub a month (NET). Some of them rent an apartment for like 15-20k so there’s a lot left to save up. $5.39 per dozen in California and a slightly down market grocery store. Cheapest I've bought them in the last few months was $1.98 per dozen but that was a special with a limit of 2 dozen per customer.
Here in Serbia 10 eggs are 2-3 dollars... People need to start raise chickens much more. I plan to have 10+ soon. They eat waste, grass, bugs and corn.
I have relatives in Moldova, a carton of 10 eggs is 1,8 Euro, I buy a carton for 1,3 Euro in Moscow, but the salaries and the bills in particular don't compare. My monthly bills are 75 Euro (gas, electricity, central heating, Internet, water). Mind you, we pay all the bills monthly in arrears, we don't get them every 3 months or at the end of the year. What country has their bills that low?
In California in 2000, my utilities for my main house, was $1000 a month natural gas for cooking, was about $650 a month and water was about $900 a month. Those high prices was for one person who was seldom home. Cable TV was $240 a month. The water was very restricted, allowed only one mist shower a day, 1 toilet flush a day, no plant or lawn watering allowed because of a drought. The electricity was so high was the power company was scammed by a company with political connections so ripped off billions of dollars in corruption and the home owners had to make the difference Russians live with less stress and debt than Americans. The average 18 year old who wants to go to college is in debt $118,000 with compounding interest. Since half drop out before graduating they start live deeply in debt that only gets worse every month. Debt is one reason the birth rate is so low, young people can't afford to have a family. It is far easier to start a small business in Russia, so much cheaper to live or go to college. The medial price of having a baby delivered in a hospital now is $40,000. Free in Russia and the young family gets paid family leave, grants for buying a larger home and zero delivery cost. It is hard to imagine the difference in economic security Russians have and Americans do not. Getting sick can make a family homeless. Medical care is so expensive people put off seeing a doctor until it is too late. The US is the only developed country or any country with a declining male life expectancy. An example, my mother went to a clinic in a hospital for a yearly check up and she contracted an infection that was serious(US hospitals rank lowest in hospital induced infections) Since antibiotics are put in everything germs build immunity for simple cheap antibiotics. And they are losing effectiveness in countries that used antibiotics routinely, So the one anti-biotic that could kill the infection cost $724 a day to take and she needed to be on it for 14 days I found out about the infection and price per pill and found it was made in Germany and the price was $2.80 per tablet so I contacted a doctor I knew in Germany and found he could get sample for free So I flew from St Petersburg to Frankfurt and picked up for free samples and then flew to California to deliver the pills and saved her $12.308 . She would have died if she could not afford it.
To be honest, I don’t usually eat eggs myself and I also didn’t know that there were any problems with eggs in Russia. I always pass by eggs in the store and didn’t even notice that the prices have changed. I bought the last pack of eggs about 7 months ago and it has been sitting in the refrigerator ever since. it's time to throw it away... or sell it... or give it away 🤣🤣🤣🤣
From what i have witnessed, There was a outbreak of bird flu which disturbed the supply and then people started hoarding the eggs(saw fridges full of them) which ended up creating a crisis.
I guess that in Russia, just like in the US, the farmers gave the chickens a big raise, and probably doubled the salaries of the roosters (if the roosters were good at what they are supposed to do, that is, to stimulate chickens to lay more eggs, I assume.) These "chickens' salary increases" are then passed on to the consumer. I would not be surprised if Russians started to keep chickens in their apartments and on their balconies.
'farmers buy most of their equipment in the west....' who told you this nonsense???? Most of the equipment for farmers is produced by farmers themselves! What they cannot produce, they order from local workshops or buy from hardware stores. In general, everyone understands where this problem with eggs comes from. when in the USA and in the West a problem arose with the prices of eggs 'evil Russians'... sorry, I couldn’t resist, unscrupulous farmers and suppliers, as always, decided that they could earn twice as much from scratch, creating a crisis and noise around eggs. if you look at the crises with rising prices in Europe for something, you will notice that in Russia there are vile intermediaries who immediately create problems in Russia with the same products by raising the price and explain everything by what they saw in reports, for example from London, when eggs went up in price there. It's a pity that the government doesn't punish these people.
Prices are going higher, but it's not a shortage. Every food store has plenty of food, and I personally didn't see an empty egg shelves (in Moscow). I didn't even know there is something happening with eggs until my colleague from St. Petersburg told me (about two weeks before Putin's speech). So there is no actual "crisis"... yet, at least. But life in general became more expensive, and dying even more expensive.

ROFL, things will only get better in Russia. New more reliable markets are opening up to them and we in the West (specially Europe) will suffer the most.
This is not a serious problem. My home country greece is in like 30 billion dollars debt since their 2010 financial crisis. Things have improved but things are still bad and their wages around russias ones. My whole extended family lives over there and they are struggling to live. And it looks cheap in their supermarkets like in russia, its really expensive for the citizens. Also in the city I live, Melbourne, theres a serious inflation problem. The midium house price has rised to around 730,000, under sydneys 1.3 million and the fuel and rent and everything is basically expensive. One of our popular supermarkets, coles, has eggs for like 10 dollars and our normal groceries for our small family might be close to 100 dollars or 80 for everything. We got our house a bit expensive but it was still good since it was just before the serious rent crisis last year. We got our house for 500 aud and later in our area, which is relatively safe and has good amenities, other houses went from 300 to 400 aud to 500, 600, 700 aud, 900 in some cases for the modern units. And these might have been modern houses with tiny rooms and backyards, or dilapidated 40 years old houses with work needed, and the average price in our area is around 900,000 to 1 mil, I found some good older houses with good sized yards for 800,000. The egg crisis and sanctions might have helped russia by boosting local economy and it wouldnt be how our media says it is, our economies in the west are struggling too and if I had to choose between Melbourne and moscow, I would be more than happy to give it a one year trial!!🇬🇷❤️🇷🇺☦️☦️☦️14:52 ,
I wouldn’t like to upset you all, but eggs in Russia began to become cheaper very quickly. It looks like Russia's economic collapse is being postponed.
Due to the sanctions against Russia, prices for almost all products and services have increased. The price increases are sometimes up to 150 percent. Inflation is now nominally 23 percent. Energy supply prices are expected to rise by another 30 percent this year. A liter of diesel fuel now costs 1.74 euros and is just as expensive as a liter of Super 95. Many homeowners will now receive the energy bill for 2023 and this includes additional charges of up to 983 euros.
@@nicholasthebest9993 GDP means almost nothing sometimes. For instance, health care expense in US (17% of GDP) is about 30 times higher than in Russia. Tell me it is worth that.. Education (7% of US GDP) is 20 times more expensive. Ok, that should be compared per capita. Divide by 2.3. Financial sector makes up about 20% of US GDP. And about 5% in Russia. As a share, in absolute figures that makes a stunning difference. 4% in Germany.

Thank you very much for your video and especially for the subs. Greeting from Krasnodarsky krai.. As a Russian living in a small town in Kuban I didn't know that the so called eggs crises was a big issue in Russia. I'm going to vote for Putin by the way. .
In UK I see prices on everything increased by 35-60% percent. Talking about eggs specifically, I checked some of my orders from early 2022 from Waitrose delivery and eggs prices are higher by 40 percent now. I also remember there was a tomato crisis in summer - only 2 packs per person were allowed in my local Tesco.
And in the summer, it was an egg crisis in the UK, or at least in Cambridge as well..
Russia is under unprecedented sanctions and occasional difficulties should be expected. But the "free" World is having higher inflation and cost of living increase.
Normally Russia would export food and oil, so these are more expensive in the EU than Russia. Imported things like computers, phones and cars are now more expensive in Russia, while in the EU there isn't significant change.

Engage in the army, that's the only way you can afford buying eggs now in russia.
from 60 rubles to 130 is MASSIVE. In Poland i pay normal price of ~6.5pln or 140 RUB per 10 eggs, but minimal salary in poland is around 3 times higher around 650 euro (63000 rub). Eggs here became less expensive this year, they are almost always on a -20% sale

Egg crisis? This is the funniest and smallest "crisis" in the World! Can this really be called a crisis???
It calls for diplomatic negotions and arbitration between the farmers/markets/consumers, and the union officials of the chickens. That union official is known locally as "the Big Red Rooster." (aka Foghorn Leghorn)
Eggs in Russia are measured in size, the larger the size, the price is 140 rubles, the sizes are marked from large to small CB, C0, C1 and C2
Well balanced analysis. Rare to find these days
Thank you so much for sharing such an interesting video, Jonny!
We kind of having also some egg-issues here in Norway. The main reason seems to be an overproduction of eggs in 2022 and suddenly in 2023 the market changed, and with higher intests for the consumers to eat eggs. But of course, it's not a crisis here either... just sometimes less egg brands to chose from.
Good to have you back in RUclips Jonny, and as always I do appreciate your videos, and also thank you so much for posting videos from Moscow, a city I really do miss a lot.
Thanks for still being here five years later!
They’re saying that Russia is starving just so the Brits wouldn’t complain about actual shortages 🤦🏻♂️
Eggs are at the poultry farm, the same price as before. But prices have soared in stores, due to the greed of Retail Chains. We have these networks, which are still owned by foreign companies
Thanks for this balanced video. (I noticed some genuine coca-cola remaining on the shelves there too.)
From an egg to an egg laying chicken you need 6 months. If they can keep up supplying themselves with refrigerators and microwaves to dismantle them for chips to put in their missiles, for years now, I am sure they can figure out how to produce more eggs.

No, dutch are typical german racists, they can't stand the existence of powerful slavonic state that isn't subjugated to their race and/or ashkenazi bankers. For the last decade I've been putting them in that category, only exception was some Moroccans that were using their own head instead of repeating their mainstream media.

2:13 $1.34 for 10. Wow that's cheap, less than half the cheapest price on eggs I've seen a several years (sweden) $3-4 is the norm for 10 here.
Rather surprised at there pretty much being only a single size of egg carton, here you can get them in sizes of 4, 6, 10, 12, 15, 18, 20, 24 and 30. Not everywhere obviously those are just all the sizes i've ever seen, different manufacturers having different ideas.
1.34$ is ALOT for average russian,
minimal salary buys you: 19200/130 = 147 cartons of eggs in russia
2845/6.5 = 437 cartons of eggs in poland (6.5pln per 10 of size m),
not sure about the sweden but you see the difference in living standards

@@trader2137lol, 19k is like minimal wage that you’ll have to work hard to find, maybe in some isolated village.. Here in St Petersburg I see ads for cafe baristas/waiters starting from 60,000 rub and that’s without any higher education. 100-120k is a normal salary here if you’re educated and work at a decent place. In Moscow it’s much higher.
Btw, I run a construction business here outside of the city and my construction workers make 90,000 to 125,000 rub a month (NET). Some of them rent an apartment for like 15-20k so there’s a lot left to save up.
Btw, a big reason why salaries are low in Russia is because people hate paying taxes here and a lot of companies report 25-30% of the actual salary and pay the rest in cash, so the official stats don’t take that into account.
>>A traffic light with a countdown timer? I LOVE that! Never even heard of that before.

My monthly bills are 75 Euro (gas, electricity, central heating, Internet, water). Mind you, we pay all the bills monthly in arrears, we don't get them every 3 months or at the end of the year. What country has their bills that low?
You can't compare just like that, russia's salaries are not the same and particularly in countryside. Besides pensions are low in russia.
Comparing between countries without considering salaries is a waste of time
In California in 2000, my utilities for my main house, was $1000 a month natural gas for cooking, was about $650 a month and water was about $900 a month. Those high prices was for one person who was seldom home. Cable TV was $240 a month. The water was very restricted, allowed only one mist shower a day, 1 toilet flush a day, no plant or lawn watering allowed because of a drought. The electricity was so high was the power company was scammed by a company with political connections so ripped off billions of dollars in corruption and the home owners had to make the difference
Russians live with less stress and debt than Americans.

From what i have witnessed, There was a outbreak of bird flu which disturbed the supply and then people started hoarding the eggs(saw fridges full of them) which ended up creating a crisis.
The same in United states no eggs sometimes and expensive....this stupid western media
People in the heartland can have their own chickens.
I know , 😂 even today (29th) cnn said the egg shortage will lead to the inevitable collapse of the Russian economy.
I heard that Avian influenza has much to do with global egg shortage, even outside of Russia. And i think that is the main reason
russian supermarkets have more than enough eggs.

In Serbia, the price of eggs is between 13 and 22 cents per piece
Russia isn't the country being invaded currently, that's the USA, sux to be American... let's go Brandon...
