Man!!!!! You just save my ass!!!! I'm at a rest area in new Hampshire in my semi and my cobra just went out. I tried resetting it and holding down the power button!!!! Nothing. Came across your video. Took that screw out up top cause my emergency button was stuck!!! That did the trick!!! Thank you
hello! im having trouble figuring out how to open a cobra sc201 dashcam for fixing usb input connector inside the camera. I thought about hitting it with a hammer since there is no screws in sight. lol. Well, any ideas? the camera is only 2 months old but the input became loose. any help is deeply appreciated. thanks
Hi! I’d get a credit card or thin plastic spatula to try and pry the casing apart. Once you have it apart a hot glue gun could help secure that port again. Hope that helps!
This is only a temporary fix. The real issue is that the battery that is expanding and jamming the button. A full repair requires you to replace the battery.
Thanks I use this model in a couple of my dump trucks. It stopped working today and I found your video, removed the screw and it works thanks for saving me some money and time
I had the same problem with my camera which is the same model, and was contemplating buying a new camera (My camera's light wasn't blinking though, instead it was just green). But i looked it up how to possibly fix it, found your video, tried it out and BAM; it's fixed and now working again. Thanks for getting my camera up and running again, and for helping me save some money.
Thanks for the video - do wish you just put your observations what you did in the description though. Guess this model can't withstand heat. I have an earlier model of theirs and that one randomly corrupts videos making it unable to overwrite... guess there's always some issue with these cobra dashcams
Thank you for this video. I had EXACTLY the same problem. I removed the screw ONLY and that relieved enough tension so that the unit now comes on and off with the car...again.
I came across your video looking for easy ways to open this camera. My friend ripped off the charger port after yanking on the cable. I didn't want to return it to Costco because they dont always have it in stock AND i have to rip it out of my car (rear camera routed through the carpet, main camera hard wired to car). I gave it a shot. There are not one but TWO screws. The second one you cant see because its under the sticker at the bottom. Once both screws are out i stuck a wide flat head screw driver in the largest crack i could see and gave it a twist. Same place place u tried to use your spudger. There are snapping locks all around holding the 2 halves together. Go around breaking them free and u have access to the board. Be gentle because the screen is still held on by a ribbon cable connecting the 2 halves. Im not sure if the ribbon cable connector is the type you flip up or pull out to unlock and it has some glue on it so i just left it alone. The circuit board is held on by screws near the edges. DONT unscrew the 2 in the middle, they hold the lens up to the image sensor. I took mine off my accident and im not sure if ill have a clear image after putting it back on. Then there is one screw hiding in between the board and camera body. Once the outer screws are out, give the board a gentle pry and it pops right out with 2 wire still holding the main board to the camera side body with a red and black cable soldered on. My guess it they are for the speaker . After all that i now have access to all the buttons, battery, and my charging port that was ripped off WITH 2 pads and a lead was lifted off of the board. Hopefully i can use my hot air wand or soldering iron to reattach it without issue.
Mine won't charge the internal battery! I have to re-set the time each time I use it. I have a steady green light when I connect it to my PC. I have left it for 3 hrs. with only the green light on, I can turn it on and everything seems fine with the camera but as soon as you pull the power cord it shuts down and will not start until the cord is back in. Am I missing something special here, doing something wrong??? Thanks!!
Hey just wanted to drop a comment: I have the 895d that recently stopped working. Similar issue except only a steady green light. No flashing red. But no power either. Fix was to remove the sd card, plug in the power cord and wait until it asked for the sd card and insert it then. It immediately initialized the card and it works fine again.
mine does that when the memory card starts getting worn out. Flash memory only has a certain amount of reads and writes. Continuous recording and erasing like in security/dash cams wears cards down quick. Look for micro SD cards specifically made for heavy use. I like Trancend high endurance cards in 32GB. Sandisk cards are garbage.
Tx, anybody tried to open up this camera to replace battery , I have CDR835 and just found that once you disconnect power it's die right away. Otherwise it's awesome camera.
I had a exact same issue where camera reset date/time after I stopped the car, thought it was the battery too. However, when I updated the FW on the dashcam, issue seemed to go away. Its worth the try if you are seeing a similar issue
Same problem...Now fixed..Thanks

Wow can’t believe simple fix and i had this put away for ages
This is a CRAZY awesome fix! Thank you so much. My light wan't even blinking. I had to loosen the case a bit more but it did the trick!
Glad to help!

I have the same problem. I think the port for power fell into the device. I can’t seem to open it to retrieve it
I have the Cobra SC 201 and all the sudden it just shows the opening logo on screen. Any ideas? It's basically still new thanks
Does it load? Or just show the screen? If so I’d try to hard reboot it let me know how it goes!
do you know if there is an easy fix for the road scout

The reason this happens is the LiPo battery has expanded. This is located behind the circuit board where the button is.
Thanks for the information!
for the price, I can't see removing the battery pack and replacing it though :(

My buttons all work but light stays red (green) if it's off. But I get no video even pressing the reset button
A C me too
Thanks 🙏

try hard reset, then update the firmware...
@@spareparts32 Thanks for the reply, I have replaced it with a Rove R2 4K camera.
@@tomwyatt1476 How do you like the Rove R2?
@@peterlashenka8139 The Rove is awesome!!!

Nice video. Didn't solve my issue, but mine still only turns on periodically. Any other thoughts?

The heat caused the lithium battery inside to expand. I do not recommend continuing to use it.
Cobra 201 dashcam stuck on boot screen I need help!
have you tried seeing if the power button is stuck?? that can cause the issue!
