most of the lyrics are classic Persian poetry or contemporary poetry. some are lyrics just for folk songs. Which ever you wish let me know and I will translate and put the text here with original so you can get the meaning. But let me tell you something. Nothing is able to match the depth, rhyme and beauty of Persian poetry and maybe the music and when mixed with tuned music it becomes so intoxicating like summer wine. in any case, knowing more makes it more enjoyable than only grasping the melody and rhythm. amblou2000@gmail.com
I am Canadian who recently was lucky to see Mr Namjoo perform, however I do not speak any language he sings in [unless in English], so I consider what little background I can find on each song is really helpful. That way we non-Iranians can appreciate the songs even more. So I find y our discussions very interesting. But mostly, I find the music wonderful!
Some of these songs are very difficult to translate! some are philosophical, some political, some slang and childish too! Because of historical and religious factors there is always Mysticism in Persian poetry! Words may say something but mean something else! That makes it hard to understand even for educated Persian speaking people! Therefore there are many interpretation of a poem! If you search Hafez on Google you may find translation of his works in English! I suggest you go for Omar Khayyam which may be easier to understand and there are some good translations to English by Edward Fitzgerald! I don't promise he fully conveys the Mysticism to you but Khayyam is very straight forward compared with Hafez and Mowlavi! Here is an example why it is hard to translate and not lose any of the Mysticism: Namjoo sings a very nice song called Toranj ( by Khajoo Kermani from 700 or more years ago! ) that you can find here on RUclips! Toranj is a sweet and sour citrus fruit ( Bergamot )! But if you split the name into " to " and " ranj " it can mean " you hurt " and if you put " me " at the end you have a different meaning altogether! He sings " az to-ranjam" which means I am a Bergamot or you hurt me! It goes like this : I said you hurt me , he said because you are hard to get, ( Bergamot is hard to get because it doesn't grow on it's own and is achieved by grafting! etc.! Now ask Iranians and see how many of them disagree with me!! There are some songs here which are simple silly love songs! One was played as a Twist song in 60s and 70s when I was a boy and remember we danced to it! You find it here at the 44th minute of this clip! There is a Tajik song ( 55th minute ) which I thought we simply stole it from the lovely Persian speaking Tajiks in the former soviet republic! But I read that it was written by an Iranian when he was living and working in that country! Some songs in the beginning are from the talented guy who plays the guitar and his group also playing here called KIOSK! There is a song from about a 100 years ago from a lady who has been one of the first emancipated ladies in Iran! one song by an Iranian artist who was assassinated by the Islamic governments thugs , etc.,!! Hope this is enough background for you!!
This performance is exceptional. You guys are absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much for giving me a reason to feel so great listening to your heavenly music.
Your memory will always remain with us and we never forget your contributions to our culture and music. I hope that be a day that we make your statue in Iran with respect to you and in your memory.

I love the creativity and daring with which these guys, and of course the beautiful violinist, are creating new music out of old music. Sound in evolution. Just loved it.
Chashme AAhovane in particular, the setar in intro and throughout the performance, the poem, the combination of instruments, the whole performance, and of course Namjoo is ghougha.
Greetings from Poland. I've been listening to your music for a few yaers now. Where do I find all the lyrics? I'd love to have them both in Farsi and English. Is it possible to get them all on your website? I can see only a few. Can I use them to teach some Farsi to my Polish students?

Armin Mozart Badakhshan is both in Tajikistan and in Afghanistan, although the historical capital of Badakhshan is in Afghanistan- the city of Fayzabad. Afther Badakhshan was divided by Russian and the British (check out Great game) we have Badakhshan province in Afghanistan and Gorno Badakhshan province in Tajikistan. When Mubarakshah sings "Az Badakhshanume" and when I say "az Badakhshanum" we mean we are from Badakhshan of Tajikistan. By the way, my grandfather is from Badakhshan of Afghanistan.
ken take it easy brother. do not divide people by their countries of origin. The singer is singing a song from Badakhshan, that's why we are talking about badakhshan :)
