Shadows modern voice is more low and gravely but in sa2 he was a lot more soft-spoken and his tone was much smoother. It gives him more of that immaturity that matches sonic since shadow didnt really get to grow up for like 50 years oop. It kinda makes sense for a brooding teenager to not have a grumpy middle age man voice
