I agree, and so far I don't see it being published anywhere. The track on Salusa Secundus was called "Sardaukar Chant - Hans Zimmer & Michael Geiger". Maybe at some point it will be released. I sure am hoping for it, that sequence on Salusa Secundus was so ominous and well-crafted.

It sounds like they used PaulStretch to repeat samples multiple times to achieve this slowed effect. That's all those "800%" music videos with the same effect. Audacity has a very simple implementation. There's also a VST plugin out there. More advanced ports of the software have more options to do various things.
Considering that's in the track about Selusa Secundus, the Imperial prison planet where the Sardaukar are "made"...well..."nightmare fuel horror style" sounds about right! Those guys are terrifying the more you learn about them.

@@colbyboucher6391 You're somewhat right... and I mean "somewhat" only in the way that (I think) this score does the same amount of work as Denis's visuals, to convey concepts and narratives. Have you ever paid attention at the scene where the Harkonnens are wiping out House Atreides? Have you ever noticed that in the background, you can hear the Bene Gesserit whispering, in the soundtrack? Subtle, very subtle if you don't pay attention... but if you DO, you kinda understand that all of this is happening because of Bene Gesserit involvement and almost direct influence. The movie never showcases that. It suggest that the Bene Gesserit are "ok" with it in that scene between the Reverend Mother and the Baron. The thing that adresses how much actual RESPONSABILITY have the Bene Gesserit for the events going on... is not in the script. Is not in the acting. Is not in the visuals: it's in the score. Have you ever noticed how, when the Seeker-Hunter shows up, we get the same kind of sounds (in the score) that we got when we got introduced for the first time to House Harkonnen in Geidi Prime? Again. It's not foreshadowed by the script or the imagery. It's adressed by the score. LATER we learn that the Harkonnen agent was within the walls... but we "subconciously" got that feeling from the exact same time that the score kicked in when the Hunter-Seeker was entering Paul's room. I agree with you: his pure "show don't tell" style clashes with a novel, ESPECIALLY for a novel like Dune. That's why I'm almost hellbent in believing half of the "heavy lifting" in that departement is done by the score. I FEEL like Arrakis is represented as a real place: but not because of Denis... it's thanks to Hans and how he weaved the sounds and the musics. Sorry for the very long comment, my friend. I didn't mean to undermine your comment, I just am very passionate about this soundtrack and how (in my opinion) is kind of being overlooked by many reviews on RUclips: most of them seem hellbent on praising Denis, wich I get... but Hans is to Denis, as John Williams was to George Lucas: half of the story is coming from the music. Not the images. Only difference is that while Joh Williams was grandiose, Hans decided for the 'subtle' approach, in conveying things almost on a subconscius level. Not with actual recognizable melodies, but rather with suggestive soundscapes.
When Dune first came out, I watched it and did not like it much for some reason... even persuaded (successfully) some friends to not go to watch Dune. Now, Dune is on Netflix and I watched it thinking I have nothing better to do... oh boy... I have no idea why I didn't like this movie before. This is an epic movie with an equally epic soundtrack. The friends that I persuaded to not watch Dune have been persuaded again (successfully) to watch Dune and now I'm the bad guy because they missed watching this in IMAX.
Aus ihnen entsteht all unsere Kraft.
I'd like if music in the movie was more like this breathtaking ambient sounds than the bombardment of strange noises similar to these in Blade Runner - but they were ok in that movie, in Dune it was too much for me. Once again this album is just grounding me in reflection. Excellent production

Everyone has their own opinion, and as long as your opinion has a full basis and is not completely biased (no review can ever be unbiased, though, because there's always some bias that makes its way in no matter what), then it's subjective, and therefore neither right nor wrong.

What a rich and beautiful film Denis and the cast have given us.

definitely artistic, less sing-songy, there's only one melody I catch myself whistling. It's like it's designed to be awe inspiring, dangerous, wonderful, and uncomfortable, just like Arrakis.
The Dune movie is a Masterpiece. Absolute Masterpiece! I cannot WAIT to see more! That was so phenomenal and cinematic immersive experience that I did NOT want the movie to end. I’m so hyped to see more Dune films of that caliber in the future.
I agree with your statement. In fact, I believe it was unironically, SPECIFICALLY and deliberatly designed for just that.. wich (if true) speaks volumes about Hans Zimmer's talent with soundscapes and music as a way to convey narrative feelings.

Foreword is exactly what I expect to hear in heaven 🤍
Everyone involved had big shoes to fill after Lynch,Toto, etc and KILLED IT. And Zimmer did not miss
i don't disagree with your comment at all, but i do enjoy the original on some levels. sure could have been better though! actually haven't seen this new version yet but looking forward to it...cheers, mate!
Kinda disappointed that they didn’t take the opportunity to include the Mongolian throat singing. The Sardaukar chant was massive…
@@RoseJetExhaust Not only here is hoping for an release of that song but for an Enxtended Edition of the film! Like there is for LoTR
@@lele9exl Yeah I'd at least like to know about possible cut scenes, although I think that the only scenes that were potentially scrapped were those that did not fit into the Denis' vision. So no harm done in my eyes. Would love to see some BTS though.
@@RoseJetExhaust Well but I think they shot Dunkan Idaho landing on Arakis and exploring the desert. Would love to see that! Also I'm speculating that the scene on Salusa Secundus was more brutal but they had to change it for cenamy release. Perhaps they can edit it back for a release to home cinema...

I absolutely love things like the transition from a lovely, resolved chord such as we have at 5:30, into something uncomfortably discordant by setting some of the tones in the chord just slightly sharper. Still musical, but no longer peaceful.

I hope there will be a companion album like this.... For the Art and Soul of Dune Part 2.
So there I was, minding my own business listening to this, when a hunter-seeker pierces through the screen. Luckily I caught it with my bare hands, like a hero of old.

How I heard it bring slagged off. I think k it's one of the greatest & original OST....
It sounds like they used PaulStretch to repeat samples multiple times to achieve this slowed effect. That's all those "800%" music videos with the same effect. Audacity has a very simple implementation. There's also a VST plugin out there. More advanced ports of the software have more options to do various things.
Was about to say that! It sounds like the 800% slow down Pyramid Song from Radiohead. It sounds great tho.
@@failedartist3994 hehe the king of 800%-slowed videos is indeed "Pyramid Song". There is no better example, fight me
@@RoseJetExhaust I raise you "(Don't Fear) The Reaper".
you can also achieve the ambience style by using a generic synth sound and drown it with reverb and delays until it is smearing into the galaxy
35:00 jeez, thats just straight up "Upsweep x1" nightmare fuel horror style. Seriously Hans, what was going into your head composing this stuff!
Considering that's in the track about Selusa Secundus, the Imperial prison planet where the Sardaukar are "made"...well..."nightmare fuel horror style" sounds about right! Those guys are terrifying the more you learn about them.
Reminds me of Evil Spirits From The Sky from Mark Isham Fire In The Sky soundtrack

This movie absolutely deserves and needs an extended /director's cut. Please WB give us a #DUNEextendedcut or #DUNEdirector'scut
Villeneuve doesn't do directors cuts. He's said what was released IS the directors cut. Only 2 years til part 2 :)
Fine print on the title of the movie said part one, so just enjoy and wait for part two.
@@alphamorion4314 Agree absolutely.
Astonishing!
Releer Dune escuchando esto es una delicia.
7:26 Aber in einer Nacht,
da war er plötzlich ganz klar.
Er stand im Flur,
mit grossen Augen, und sagte:
"Nichts ist umsonst.
Kein Atemzug.
Kein Schritt, kein Wort.
Kein Schmerz.
Aus ihnen entsteht all unsere Kraft.
Words don't do it justice.
I'd like if music in the movie was more like this breathtaking ambient sounds than the bombardment of strange noises similar to these in Blade Runner - but they were ok in that movie, in Dune it was too much for me. Once again this album is just grounding me in reflection. Excellent production

Oh, worm of many teeth,
Canst thou deny what has no cure?
The flesh and breath which lure thee
To the ground of all beginnings
Feed on monsters twisting in a door of fire!
Thou hast no robe in all thy attire
To cover intoxications of divinity
Or hide the burnings of desire!
