I think I have ended up doing this a lot myself already in slight desperation, and found it eased the tension and power struggle building with all the pushback, and jokingly showed him I wasn't trying to control him, and I had my own feelings too! I think that's where this may have come from in a way, but from there it's easier to calm myself as you say and then he can see I don't want to fight him basically- I surrender in a way! But without losing control or scaring him with anger etc Definitely works!
Did this last week after school, we had gone to the park had an upset with 5y old got home (2min walk) and after trying various things, I lay on our lounge floor. It worked!
Love this idea. Will it work with teenagers? I'm going to try it! Doing the unexpected is often just what is needed to help us all not play out the same old scene again....

Exactly! And yes, it can absolutely work with teens, though they probably won't climb on you. ;)
