      Bernadette Teaches Music I just purchased a Lanikai tenor and gave my Cordoba concert to a friend. Not going back, no Ma’am! Love it! I was more intrested in sound (and payability). Seemed the Cordoba wanted more string pressure even though all my ukes have Aquila nylgut. Anyway, point is, I’m happy. Great recommendation.

    I didn't think I would say this but,,,,I liked the Enya the best.....love the slotted headstock...I would like to say the Kala but, seems like the Enya has a more mellow and deeper sound (which I like)......However, all 3 are very nice...Blue bag is cool, Like YOU! :)

    I've played guitar for 32 years. Bought a UKE to play around with a year ago. It was a huge hit with the whole family. Everyone wants to play it. I'm so impressed with UKE's, what wonderful instruments they truly are! My daughter has learned to play and has gotten really good. Thinking of upgrading her from the LUNA we now have to one of these in your vid. Great channel, thanks for sharing!

    I think sound the Lanikai wins but the Enya is a close second followed by of course the Kala.
    For finish I love the Kala is the gloss.
    For overall looks the Enya. I love the open or classical headstock and the classical guitar tuners too.
    With that said I'd get the Enya. The open headstock is unique on a uke and looks amazing.

    I have to agree with your final assessment. If I were to purchase one of these three it would be the Lanikai. When I evaluated on sound only, for me the Kala sound is thin. At times it almost sounds tinny and doesn't pack much of a punch. The Enya sound was a bit muddy, the differences in the notes were not as articulated. Of the three the Lanikai sounded brighter and had a much fuller sound than the other two. They all three seem like good instruments for starting out, but the Lanikai I think would be most pleasing. :) thanks for your reviews and your tutorials, I appreciate them!

    I luv the KALA uke! I wanna get it (maybe) once I reach 20 subscribers. Also, PLEASE review an ukulele from the California coast collection by fender! I wanna get on of those (probably the rincon , motecito, or the Zuma). Also, should I get a Tenor uke?

  • @GaiasGreenGirls
    @GaiasGreenGirls 4 года назад +3

    Gig bags: I also prefer the most fully padded up to a hard case; however, I prefer any bag to none at all.
    Tuner: I have lots of tuners like the 1-button tuner ((same tuner, different names)). I liked the one I had just before that tuner, but it fell and broke one day. They’re okay, but for me, my Yousician app tuner is my absolute favourite.
    Tuning pegs: all are fine, I do like the closed ones ((like on the Lava U)). Colour: doesn’t really matter.
    Strings: I’m too much of a novice to notice differences ((but when changing strings, I only use Ernie Ball because I don’t know how to do knots)).
    I don’t have an Enya yet ((it is my 2nd-next Ukulele, my next is an electric concert paddle Uke - in yellow, then Enya Nova U - in light blue)) ... meanwhile, I’m still waiting on the ((pink)) Populele 2 to arrive! I have matte and glossy, painted and stained, Mini & Sopranino to Tenor ((I actually want a QUALITY Sopranino, Sopranissimo, Nano, Piccolo, iUke, etc and they all are on the horizon of my radar)) ... and I plan to buy a DIY Uke to put together - to understand my Ukes and their parts better ...
    The sounds ((and strings)) ... I did like the Carbon Fibre strings ... they did sound “sweeter,” but sound is subjective ... when I do my shows ((and mine are awful, you can look at my channel if you don’t believe me)), my different ukuleles are chosen for whatever theme or message I’m going for ... like 05 July 2020, my “Showstopper” post, where my voice blew in the middle of the song, it was about both the colours and the sound of them, because the message was not only America’s freedom, but Black-Lives-Matter ... and it is explained in the Showstopper clip.
    Anway, I LOVE your videos, you ROCK! 🤘I am always looking up songs or different teachings, because as a newby, I need the simple version. I’m strongly driven and passionate about ((GCEA)) Ukes ((all MUST be tuned that way)). I was not a great pianist, I want to become better than average on the Ukes someday.

    The Enya, for me, wins in every way; better gig bag, exposed tuners, strap knobs, matte finish (glossy things bother me for some reason), comes with a Spark tuner (I have one already, it's great), laminate (where I live we have extreme weather) the sweeter sounding carbon fiber strings. Amazing, thanks

    I’m just a couple weeks into my ukulele journey. I’m currently learning on an Kmise Tenor uke which is a great starter. I found myself drooling over the Enya Tenor with that beautiful wide neck, I’m wondering if there is a learning curve to the extra space between strings?

    Another fine Uke to consider is The Enya ETU-70 because it is has brighter sound and has a more attractive Koa laminate than the EXT-x1. The ETU-70 model looks more like real wood. Both are weather resistant and best of all the ETU-70 is less expensive. I have some experience building custom guitars so it would be fair to say, I notice the finer points of how a guitar or ukulele looks, feels & plays. In comparing over 16 Ukuleles under $300, the Enya ETU-70 one of the easiest playing and best values for a Ukulele under $100. Price not being a concern, the Lanikai featured in this video sounded and looked the best. I want to give a shout out and send lots of love to Bernadette because I learned how to play the Ukulele from her 30 Day Uke Course and her 30 Day Uke Challenge Course! Thank You Bernadette!!!

      Lori Dikena I just got my enya soprano pineapple in today and I like it a lot. It seems a little quiet but that's because I'm used to a concert size. I am going to switch out the strings for Aquila. I saw a review on gotaukulele.com for the circular and regular sopranos and he really recommended them because of the make... Although he said the way the string were mounted on the round one made it quieter. The pineapple strings are mounted to the body more like the regular shaped sop. Sorry for the giant comment haha

      Hi Lori, I’m sure Miss B will jump on here and give her recommendation as well, but I wanted to let you know I have purchased 2 of the pineapples for a ukulele group and the quality is nothing you need to worry about. It does have a quieter tone to it, not too punchy but still a sweet sound. The set up is spot on! I can bar chords easily and it had good intonation! Good luck!

    9:10 -demo
    My favorite will be:
    Lanikai: OVERALL, for me it fits on my aesthetics, reminds me of a retro. The sound is clean too.
    Enya: FOR SOUND. I like deeper sound. But I find the body too simple, but still sophisticated
    Kala: FOR LOOK. I like the finish gloss its like a high end classics, a bit flashy. But the sound is kinda pitchy for me.

This is helpful for when I get my next aquisition. I like the enclosed silver tuners. The cordoba gig bag looks great. The Enya has a more well rounded sound.

  • @oliverdots
    @oliverdots 6 лет назад +1

    The sounds from all 3 are amazing. The only thing I really don't like about one of the three Ukulele's is the head gear adjusters. Yep, that would be the Enya. It's very different having the tuner adjusters pointing backwards to the head rather than horizontal to the head. Maybe OCD but I don't like it. They are all beautiful and I think it may be wrong to pick a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the sake of it. Unless you really do find a favourite. You did play all 3 beautifully and the review was so unbiased.

    I thought the Kala and the Lanikai sounded a lot alike, and the Enya was a lot more mellow. I'm not sure which way I want to go yet, there's a koa Lanikai for sale locally for a good price, but I honestly probably need to pace myself and put six months between new instruments! It's been only a month since I got a neat aNueNue black beauty soprano (I already had an Oscar Schmidt OU2 concert, also very glossy!). I am not even sure if I want a tenor yet, but I do want a ukulele with a low G; I've read that it might be nice for more jazz-oriented finger picking style, which I want to learn. I'll keep watching and listening to your videos because I keep getting a little more insight each time. Thanks!

    I don't know if this is a weird thing to do but I have a question: I LOVE the look of the Kala Ukulele but I LOVE the sound of the Enya. If I bought a Kala but replaced the strings with the carbon fiber strings do you think it would sound close to or similar to the Enya?
    Also, sometimes I wonder whether to buy a concert or a tenor Ukulele. Could I, in theory, buy a tenor ukulele and just drop a Capo on the strings a few frets down whenever I'd like it to sound like a concert or even a soprano? What do you think? really hope you see this comment because I want to know! lol

    Unfortunately, I believe the Lanikai you recommended has been discontinued... :-(
    Quick consideration: do you think the cut-away is a bit of overkill on a stringed instrument of this size? It is already so small that removing all that wood from the top bout seems like it would take away a whole lot of surface area necessary to resonate and be detrimental to the overall quality of the sound. On a large guitar, or an electric/amplified one, that may not be such an issue, but it seems to me to be a bad idea if one intends to get the best possible sound out of an acoustic instrument of that size. What are your thoughts?
    Thank you for your videos. You have a great presence and are obviously very well informed.

    Bernadette, I was wondering how you feel about the strings on the Enya and your round one after having them awhile. I bought the Enya tenor (after watching this video a hundred times!) and I have two Lunas, a soprano and a concert, which both have Aquila Nylgut strings. The Enya's strings are a bit odd, but I love the sound. I do have more trouble fretting on the Enya and I don't know if it's just because I'm not used to the size of a tenor yet or if it could be because of the strings.

    The Lanikai has the best sound and that is the most important factor for me when it comes to ukus. Additionally it is also the best-looking (although looks are not that important and depends on the eye of the beholder). So for me, the Lanikai is my top choice.

      Looks are important on stage though. One of the reasons I play a Luna is that they look great under the lights. Otherwise theres only me to look at!

    Unfortunetly I don't like the sound of on of them. I like the lanakai bariton in one of your videos, but it is very tall. So I boght none of them 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Someone probably already said this, but kia is a type of acacia wood grown in Hawaii. It is primarily grown on the big island, and it is the traditional wood for authentic Hawaiian ukuleles.

    Fun test, but without a reference microphone of better than good quality it's a little unfair/inaccurate. I generally feel that all three are great for the price.

      Have you been playing it a lot? I know you said it was a little soft... I've heard people change the strings to fix that ;)

      @Jordan-ib7zz 6 лет назад +3

      Bernadette Teaches Music Yes I've been playing it quite often and it sounds beautiful. I kept the original strings because I like the way they feel and I feel like and gave it a unique sound. It is little bit soft but I don't mind because it's really not that noticeable.I really, really love it.

    For me, Lanikai wins for sound and tone. The Enya sounds so muted, and the Kala sounds noisy. Lanikai, yes.

    Hi Miss B thank you for this video it was very informative. I agree with you on the entire package of the Enya, I love how they sound and it’s nice to not have to worry about extreme weather. I bought my Grandaughter the Lanikai Tenor based off your recommendation and it is so beautiful to look at and the sound is amazing! But most importantly, she loves it! My all time favorite that I own is my Mainland ukulele that I purchased down in southern Indiana. It is super glossy too but the sound is like no other! Thanks again! Oh and can I just scream with delight about those finger/rhythm shakers!

    I thought the Enya sounds rather unique but I'm an ukulele newbie and this was the first time I heard about Enya. Anyway, I'm planning to buy an ukulele for my 6 yrs. old daughter, it has to be kinda pretty so that she'd be interested in learning but also durable and not too expensive. Please let me know what you recommen, thanks!

      Hey! I recommend a concert size ukulele. I have played Lanikai, Kala, Oscar Schmidt, and OMS (Enya Concert uke). I love those all.
      You can browse through my videos and the links to ukuleles are in the description box

    I have a Mitchell soprano and a Hua Wind tenor. Love the sounds of them both. I am not a fan of the heavy gloss. I like the look of your Enya the best. But the sound of the lanikai are nice. It's a toss up. I might have to go with price at this point.

    I love the rich mellow sound of the Enya. It really complemented the softer strum and the finger picking. and I also really like the Kala as a really fun upfront sound especially with the faster strums. Thanks for the demo.

  • @mary8631
    @mary8631 6 лет назад +1

    You should try installing your own buttons on one of your Ukes. I did it on mine and I Love them. There are a lot of RUclips videos on how to do it and it is a lot easier than you think once you get over the initial fear of drilling a hole in your ukulele.

    The Lanikai was my favourite in this comparison video. It's similar my Kala KA-SA solid acacia tenor. I like satin finish and slotted Headstock.
