Your problem is unlikely the speed, but unfamiliarity with how words sound when they are slurred with variable pitch, and perhaps the accent. I started with Putonghua and quickly found I could barely hear the same words spoken in Taiwanese Guoyu. Over time and with experience, I am able to catch most words in Guoyu, but this clip was surprisingly difficult for me because I haven't been exposed to people speaking in this way as much. That said, when I could read the pinyin, I could catch everything.
@@kadianbarker4648 Listen to a wide variety of content / voices. I found I got bored if I listened to the same thing more than 2-3x (some repetition is good). RUclips is great because it keeps a record of what you've watched. Sometimes I go back to older videos and notice I can pick up stuff better. If you're still having trouble, slow the videos down to 50%, try to imitate how words are said within a sentence, how they change depending on the mood. Words sound very different when the speaker is angry vs sad vs confused etc. Listen with headphones - so much clearer.

i think i need to learn the pronunciation of those letters so i can speak chinese better. i have studied them but it was too much for me.
spend a good 2-3 weeks really getting the pinyin down. It will pay dividends
They spoke so fast I couldn't even identify words I know.
