- Want to forage for wild food and medicine in your local city park?
Linda Black Elk takes us on a walk around an urban park in Minneapolis, Minnesota and shows us how we can identify and use different medicines that are commonly found in public spaces!
Linda shows us that food and medicine is growing freely and abundantly all around us. She also shares her perspective on the safety of foraging in urban spaces and tips to get foraging.
Linda Black Elk is an Indigenous ethnobotanist, food sovereignty activist, teacher and a huge source of joy and inspiration. I could not begin to summarize the importance of the work she does both for her close community and our humanity. As a professor of food sovereignty at United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, North Dakota, she teaches passionately about culturally important plants and their uses as food, medicine and materials. She is empowering her people to relearn their traditional plant knowledge and to regain food sovereignty. As an activist, she stands strong against extractive industries and colonization that threatens our global humanity. No doubt she has inspired thousands to reconnect with Earth and to care for and protect this home that we all share together.
I have followed Linda since I first met her at the Florida herbal Conference in 2018 and am so grateful to have spent time with her this fall at the Midwest Wild Harvest festival and in Minneapolis.
You must Follow Linda and learn from all the knowledge she shares, be empowered by her bold resistance and resilience and gain the skills to be a good relative to all plants and animals and steward of Earth!

Rob, thank you for passing the mic and using your platform to lift up indigenous women and their incredible knowledge! What a beautiful thing.
I love her presentation style. Scientific + holistic with a deep respect for mother nature + she's just so down to earth adorable. Thank you for this very educational video.
Pseudo scientific. Dont let it fool you
Man, Linda is an amazing human being!!! She's articulate, doesn't waste my time with frivolous talk, and is great in front of a camera. Going to check her out on other platforms. Thanks, Rob, for featuring her on your channel. She's such a gift!
Linda is so cool!! I love her Instagram. Thank you so much for using your platform to elevate indigenous peoples work.
Might be the best "foraging walk" I've been on! Thank you so much, both of you!
I love spotting medicines in city parks
I take my sons out and make them identify the plants I know.
Thank you!
Thank you So Much for sharing your Fabulous Wisdom so freely
with us !!!❤
Amazing video, guys! What a great way for homeschoolers to explore their local city parks. 👍
So wonderful!! Thank you Rob for the introduction and thank you Linda for the knowledge!
Amazing
Bitter is often from the alkaloids in the plants. Very helpful in small amounts. Can cause issues if used in large amounts. Digestive bitters have been used for decades to help digest foods. Dandelion and burdock is still a drink you can get in the U.K. Asian cultures make great burdock root salad. I have learned a lot from seeing what other cultures use as medicine or eat. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Linda.
Thanks my sister! Learning about plant medicine! Much love!
Ahéhee (thank you)
We have mugwort in our garden. I didn’t think it was going to make it at first and then BAM! It can take over 🤣
God bless you!
😀😊💖🤗😃😁🙌🌍
Wow Linda was awesome. Love her teaching character ❤ she seems to have a very caring and calm spirit about her. Would definitely watch her more. Much love to you too Rob.
Thank you to both of you for this video..Linda, you should definitely do more of these. People need to learn so much, and this helps so many people.. this is what mainstream tv should be airing..for sure. Thanks guys!!! ❤️❤️
Marvelous! 😍💕👏👏
Thak you so much to Linda!
Thanks a lot for sharing. It is further proof that when God created the earth (Gen 1:29) it says that the leaves are for healing and the fruit for food.
Thank you for introducing us to Linda Black Elk. I have started following her and hope to see more from her.
This was an incredible video! Thank you, Linda Black Elk. 🙏🏻🌟🙏🏻
So amazing ☺️ thank you 🤗
This is such a beautiful video. Linda is awesome. I’m in NJ & forage at my local park(formerly an 18 hole golf course). I have the same plants Linda shows us. Thanks Rob for sharing this with us 💚
Thanks so much Linda for this wonderful information you provided for us! Very appreciated!
👏👏👏
😍💕👏👏 Amazing
❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤ I just love you and you're so cute. I love lemonade and the colors because it was so garden of Eden, but I am so glad you're going around. Because what's up there. It's not exactly down here. Some of the yellow light mole in them and then like that. But, you know, so thank you again. I love you so much. I appreciate everything you do.🎉
It's so amazing to learn that indigenous Americans share the same concept that herbs growing in nature are food and natural medicine and when we eat them, we are healing our bodies and preventing diseases. That's exactly what traditional Chinese food and medicinal theory entails.
Cultures with a long history of foraging and farming usually have a deep connection with nature. Sadly, colonisation destroyed so much civilisation.
Good to see now this knowledge is being shared on social media.
Hod bless you both! Thanks so much!
THANK YOU for sharing your wealth of knowledge, Linda! And, I am happy to learn that you have a RUclips channel. ❤️
Amazing video. Food is our medicine!!

This is awesome! The knowledge we can gain from these Native American Indians is worth its price in gold. Since a very small child I have been so fascinated by their way of life. I became proficient w/a bow & arrow bcaz of their influences.

So much goodness all around us! Goota find me some of those nettles!
Thank you both very much appreciated
Linda answers the question that I was thinking of right when she picks and eats the dandelion leaf at the end of the video. Her perspective just changed mine.
She is amazing.
The lawn growing around us is full of amazing gifts. Bitter taste seems to be a flavour mentioned a lot when talking of medicinal effects.
Very good knowledge. Thank you!
How is Linda touching the nettles with her bare hands? I touched nettles once..and I was in so much pain. She is amazing!
Really learned a lot. Thank you very much 😘😘😘

What a lovely knowledgeable lady! I just checked and see she has no audible books - shame, she has a great narrating voice!
Great knowledge thank you 😊
I already started picking dandelion leaves but I didn’t know that about the roots! That’s incredible! I also found out about wood sorrel which has a lot of vitamin C but is pretty sour
I just subbed to her RUclips channel. I'm looking forward to learning more.
I met Rob yesterday in Laguna Beach, CA…. He seems very cool on the videos, but he’s a lot cooler in person…. Why is he not on the news channels….???? My dude is epic…..!
Wow fantastic and so so interesting she is so knowledgeable I would love to take lessons from her!! I am definitely gonna be following her!
Found lemon balm, catnip and yellow dock with burdock in my park.
BLESS YOUR SOUL!!!!! SO BEAUTIFUL TO SEE SOMEONE DOING WHAT YOUR DOING AND HELPING TO TEACH OTHERS. I CRY FOR MOTHER EARTH AND HOW INDUSTRIALIZATION IS DESTROYING HER. THANK YOU FOR TEACHING AWARENESS AND SPREADING THE KNOWLEDGE. MAYBE OUR KIDS WILL START TO WAKE UP AND EVERYONE STOP GOING TO BK, MCD, ARBY'S, WENDY'S, KFC!!!!!!! AND STOP SUPPORTING THE POISON INDUSTRIES!!!!!!!!!!
Ethnobotanist, that's definitely what I want to be when I grow up!
Great content
💚
Great info - thank you! Yeah, I was a little concerned about the dog pee, but totally agree that it's safer than anything we're gonna get in the 'company store.' Besides, dog pee will wash off!
Great
How are you handling the nettle without gloves? I'm impressed!
Smart gril
My concern is animal droppings!! I only use herbs I grow myself. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
One of the things dandelion root can do is increase your red blood cell count. That's awesome if you're anemic! However, my doctors thought for years that I had hemachromatosis because my RBC count was so high...turns out I just needed to cut back on the dandelion root tea! Everything in moderation. 😅 Thanks for this awesome information! One of my family has a poison ivy rash right now, so this was extra timely.
Thanks for the info
Careful when foraging in parks and city property, make sure you know if, what and/or when they spray for weed and pest control, and also you never quite know what may have pooped or peed there, so please wash things first!
Thank you, this is what the corporations want us to forget.
I find medicine in Denver all the time and found red clover 🍀
Thank you so much for your videos Miss black elk. We have stinging nettles growing but we are a block away from a very large freeway. Is it safe to use these nettles internally if the nettles are washed off?
Bitter is good 😊
The burdock one is great to know too. Every time it gets warm. I get this rash on my nut sack that comes and goes and maybe that'd work best.
🙏🏽💝🌺
Very you left out plantains
Will oak bark work on poison oak rashes in the west? We have lots of oak.
I love dandelion leaf 🍃 with my cheese omelette
Native American's were bomb I miss them so much. I love them I wish they would get their land back. Blessings to the Native American population; be strong, raise your coming youth with pride not with alcohol, drugs, abuse.
👍✌️🙏❤️
Can you use Tiny Leaf Linden the same way?
I have one of those near work
