Speaking of rabid sentient diseases, I don't know if Roanoke is going to see this, but analyzing the Plague of Madness from Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal would be amazing. It combines both a zombie virus with rabies, along with a hint of something supernatural as it infects a giant sauropod into a massive undead killing machine and the main characters are forced to flee from it.

@@TheTrueFeleas "Pan's Labyrinth" was in Spanish, not Italian. Generalisation is a necessity when having a dialogue so as to avoid going off on tangents. Keep these coming, Roanoke! I am learning far more than I ever would in a biology class by watching you break down fictional pathogens and connect them to a transmission method and the most similar real life pathogens. I love your 'Explained' videos.
its fun to see how one would like to rationalize a "demonic" infection, its even more awesome that the rationalization in universe is the thing that doomed everyone! as it is clearly intended by the filmmaker that it IS supernatural zombie/infected and not biological, so in this case science looses! as the rest of the franchise has more supernatural links and stuff
@@whiteface513abandonedchann8 This movie is fictional. You really expect them to follow real world reasoning? And besides, there is plenty of media where there supernatural plagues and diseases, such as the Plague Maidens in the Witcher series.

im surprised Roanoke didnt see the sequel [Rec 2] takes place about 5 mins after the end of the first firm in the same location but with a swat team and explains the virus and its source and is the best in the Rec series in my opinion.
oh and its very demonic elements in the [rec 2] like the infected can mimic the voices of others, they cannot pass holy symbols and they are sort of hive minded as when one sees something the others seem to be aware of it like say one infected is in the basement another on the 4th floor and spots an non infect the other will later be seen among the attackers despite them being to far away to have heard the first ones scream of prey - but that could just be the films smaller budget XD
I smell the Grandfather's hand in this. Daddy Ro: So how does this work? Me: Magic Daddy Ro: *No* Dude it's literally magic, we see the possessed actually change their voice and be pushed back be prayers. Not including the giant demon slug.
So these things are affected via the brainwaves of people and seem to gain the ability to speak? More than likely it is like dead rising zombies and people are going crazy trying to explain it.
The sheer comedic idea of, somehow, chanting "The power of christ compels you" doing something other than making you look like an idiot is probably the best part tbh, it's so monumentally impossible that it's easily the funniest shit.
I have an idea. Considering it’s called an enzyme, it’s probably a prion disease. Prions can also infect many species, specifically BSE has leaped over the species barrier to most common mammals. It has similar symptoms to rabies, since it also infects the brain tissue. The only reason the priest tried to treat it instead of medical professionals is also probably because it’s a prion disease, since no cures or vaccines can be made for something that your immune system doesn’t even know of its existence. In other REC movies, the whole “religion stops them” is probably because the human mind has the naturally ingrained thoughts of a creator, so the body is just like, “Hmm…” and just kinda stops since it can’t decipher this natural instinct of religion and god, so basically running into the blue screen of death.
It seems like people turn faster as the movie goes on, I think that’s probably just supernatural. As more people turn the demonic force gets more powerful and thus people turn faster.
I won't lie, that imagery of looking down and seeing all of the infected tenants and then seeing Manu is terrifying. Especially because they just saw Manu, they had been with him the whole night and to see him infected really fucking sucked.
I can safely assume you didn’t watch the end credits scene where the precursor for all Witches in Left 4 Dead disgorges a worm down our poor reporter’s throat then? Because that totally happens.

Ya know, to not buy into the paranormal aspect of the story and virus you miss a very good example of something similar that actually resonates with the name of your channel. The Croatoan virus from Supernatural (first appearance S2:E9) is very similar to the premise of the virus in (Rec).
Man I remember when I saw rec’s ending and I got even more scared, that sudden realization that it’s not even scientific anymore is just insane. Quarantine was good too but I’ll always prefer rec 1 and 2. Especially with them being written side by side. 3 lost me though, it was great as an action movie though, loved discount spongebob.
I know I'm two years late, but for those thinking about the whole Rec vs Quarantine thing, the movie company Filmax made both films (though Quarantine also had several other companies involved, and Sony distributed it instead of Filmax themselves, bigger budgets and such). Quarantine is the official American remake of the film, not a theft of the idea. S'why they tried to get it as shot-for-shot as possible with the original. Once sequels started, though, the two films went in absolute opposite directions.
Let me try to explain whole demon thing and it will make perfect sense. In movies who are most likely to be possessed? People who had the worst day in their life. People who struggle, people who are depressed, who are alone and suffering. People who have bad things going in their life are most likely to be possessed. In religious text and myths there are all sorts of demons. There are demons of fire, demons of ice, and of course there are demons of diseases. Combine two previous facts together: you have a disease which was engineered by a demon and anyone who get infected by it get easily possessed by said demon. So, it is not that diseases carries demonic possession, but instead everyone who get infected become free real-estate for the demon(s) of diseases.
i remember when i watched this, and when that girl mentioned the dog was sick my brain immediately went to "its rabies isnt it" cos, rabies is honestly the only disease ive looked into because I just personally have an aversion to getting it despite not interacting with wild animals
The problems with the part of it being rabies is that it was actually demonic in origin and also that if it was rabies they would be attacking each other.
I love how you do your research and use personal experience towards your videos. As a religious individual I still love and enjoy your scientific approaches on video games and movies
I always took it that potentially the possessed women might have gotten infected by rabies, and the possessing/demonic spirit thru some method influenced, and changed the rabies virus. The idea that a demonic spirit possessing someone could actually be on the material realm to both corrupt the possessed person, but also to contract an alter illnesses we have here to make them even worse is an interesting concept. It reminds me of something the chaos god Nurgil from warhammer would do.
I always thought that one of the movies either the movie Rec or Quarantine were movie tie-ins for the Left for Dead aeries as they turn the same gray color, have the same black mucas around eyes nose and mouth. The same kind of emaciated corpse that matches the witch from the series. It was all too coincidental for my liking and i thought of them both or atleast that one of the movies as being the Prequel to the games since the green flu is essentially a mutated strain of rabies.
I've just recently come across your channel, and, I have to say, I really enjoy your videos. I learn something in every video and love your personality.
I really didn't like he demonic twist the movies took. And hey, he finds it weird now cuz the Vatican agent says it's demonic possession, but I can't wait to watch him flip out when he sees the sequel
i was genuinely so confused that this movie was being covered again, but i guess quarantine really did just take this movie, scene for scene jesus. i was sitting here like "oh hey ive never seen these scenes and clips from that one movie before! cool!" i have been fooled
Actually fact: This movie was one scene go. Meaning no cuts also the people didn’t know lines cause they didn’t know it before hand so them being scared are actually real.
One of the best “zombie” books I’ve ever read is called The Remaining and through the books we get bits of info that explain how the “infected” aren’t zombies like some people think, but are just super infected people who have what early tests showed might be a form of rabies
yo! I happened to stumble upon your channel this morning and wanted to thank you ! Finally I can feed my twisted obsession, and get educated at the same time ! Very worry some as to how much I enjoy this these topics as well as having the gut to stomach all the gore. I am very grateful for you !
Edit: little long but I'd like to hear thoughts on it If supernatural was involved. (As in an extreme version of the natural not yet known.) Then maybe it just means a demon modified it then let it loose. I like to think sometimes religion works with science unlike what Hollywood unimaginatively does by making them seem like opposing forces. For example when the Bible roughly says God made us from the dirt. To me that means he started life for germs then kick started the evolutionary process. Turns on the cooking timer then came back to throw spices (big rocks) on the Dino's. Then sets the timer to come back at the start of people.
I don't understand why he's so upset over it being a Supernatural disease, it's an interesting original concept that isn't any less believable than ghosts. Remember people, it's just a movie, it doesn't need to be scientifically accurate to enjoy it.
When done right, and not done solely as a lazy way to cut costs without any legitimate story based reason for using that type of filming, i really enjoy them. But i feel like they get the flak they do because too many film makers have used it as a cheap gimmick and it's ruined the image of the found footage style by pumping out cheap shitty movies. But ones done well like this, as above so below, pyramid, cloverfield, the visit, and of course the blair witch protect, i do really enjoy.
Guess you never watched the sequels. The 'demonic enzyme' explanation is much scarier than just a rabies variant because instead of bloodthirsty monsters, you get bloodthirsty monsters WITH A CONTROLLING INTELLIGENCE.
9:08 - You got that part wrong. The girl shown on these pictures is not Tristana. That's the girl who entered the building along with two boys in REC 2. One of the boys got infected so he got tied to a chair, while them two got locked up in a room. I'd also like to point out that the Vatican agent was apparently a biologist so it makes sense that he was assigned to examine the girl. In the comic, we learn that Tristana was gangraped at a convent. Later, she was discovered by nuns and started acting violently. She had to be tranquilized and transported to a hospital. According to the newspaper clippings seen in the penthouse, she disappeared from the hospital, which suggests that she was abducted by the priest.
Roanoke, I love and i'ma let you finish but sometimes you need to accept that fiction can have paranormal aspects and not everything is explained by science
So that means that he purposely decided to leave the sequels out to make it out as a virus instead of what the creators wanted it to be, a demonic virus from a demonic slug.

I agree. Often times, the main horror villian when shown in full glory is usually an absolute joke or disappointment. But shit when I saw her at the end paired with the night vision I was fucking freaked out. Even down to her open jaw and trembling on her own weight.

Canonic plot states that the infection in fact originated from a demonic posession. We can read about it from second chapter of the comic series. Knowing that, you can clearly say that adding supernatural plot twist wasn't only to make it scarier and more mysterious it just fits in whole canon of the story.

"Quarantine" is not a rip-off of "Rec", it's a US remake of the movie, because subtitles are a no-sell in America.
Same thing happened with "Let the Right One in", "Ju-On", "Ringu" and so on.
Yet Pan's Labrinth did fine being an Italian subtitles film in the USA? Lol ok.
@@TheTrueFeleas "Pan's Labyrinth" was in Spanish, not Italian.
Generalisation is a necessity when having a dialogue so as to avoid going off on tangents. To this end, I applied generalisation when saying that subtitled movies don't do well in the US. It does not account for every single instant, but speaks of a general trend in the moviegoing public.

Given that REC 2 shows Angela get possessed by a parasitic worm thing...I'd saw this is more than a simple cause. Given that the infected can be halted just by a prayer, it lends credence to this not being a normal disease.

The last part of her getting dragged away is the whole reason I watched the movie. You know? For science
its fun to see how one would like to rationalize a "demonic" infection, its even more awesome that the rationalization in universe is the thing that doomed everyone! as it is clearly intended by the filmmaker that it IS supernatural zombie/infected and not biological, so in this case science looses! as the rest of the franchise has more supernatural links and stuff
Which is stupid as shit because infections can't be supernatural

Just because that's the official explanation, that doesn't mean that it makes sense.
Did you hear Roanoke's reasoning for the biological theory?
It makes much more sense than the demonic explanation and unlike the demonic explanation, Roanoke's theory wasn't an ass-pull.
Don't be so quick to disregard an explanation at the first sign of dissonance; think through what is being said and consider the possibility that a theory can be more rational than a writer's explanation.

im surprised Roanoke didnt see the sequel [Rec 2] takes place about 5 mins after the end of the first firm in the same location but with a swat team and explains the virus and its source and is the best in the Rec series in my opinion.
oh and its very demonic elements in the [rec 2] like the infected can mimic the voices of others, they cannot pass holy symbols and they are sort of hive minded as when one sees something the others seem to be aware of it like say one infected is in the basement another on the 4th floor and spots an non infect the other will later be seen among the attackers despite them being to far away to have heard the first ones scream of prey - but that could just be the films smaller budget XD

The sheer comedic idea of, somehow, chanting "The power of christ compels you" doing something other than making you look like an idiot is probably the best part tbh, it's so monumentally impossible that it's easily the funniest shit.

I love how you seem to have so much knowledge on these topics. Not only with the biology, but the fact that you were with the fire department.
Crap, I was eating and almost spat out when the kid looks at the camera, that really took me off guard

As a fellow emergency medical technition I fully appreciate the breakdown of injuries which is something you dont really see in reviews two thumbs up.
Best found footage horror of all time.

Roanoke is the one person on planet Earth who performs autopsies on horror movie victims

Edit: little long but I'd like to hear thoughts on it
If supernatural was involved.
Smartest comment here.
I always wondered why people couldn't accept BOTH science and religion like this.
I don't understand why he's so upset over it being a Supernatural disease, it's an interesting original concept that isn't any less believable than ghosts. Remember people, it's just a movie, it doesn't need to be scientifically accurate to enjoy it.
This was interesting does everyone else like found footage movies or is it just me
I like how they are made. Like films like Cloverfield. It's so unique yet not much is made.
I love it
When done right, and not done solely as a lazy way to cut costs without any legitimate story based reason for using that type of filming, i really enjoy them.

So, a majority of us came here after watching Dead Meat's video on the fourth Rec, huh?
The movie scared me when I was little, my grandma would watch strictly Spanish movies and shows and this was one of them
U should cover the strogg from quake. It'd be interesting to see your take on them
9:08 - You got that part wrong.
