Ideological indoctrination and normalisation of violence are necessary parts of such extremist groups, but few have really perfected the entire sick process like the SS. You can see very similar group-building around the world in the last few decades too; bonding a group of people within an authoritarian ideological framework that justifies horrific acts such as mass-murder, terrorism and/or rape, with immense peer pressure for every group member to contribute to these activities. They can develop across a wide variation of cultures and religions, but they maintain the same commonalities and tendencies for oppression, violence, and wiping out undesirables, whether they are extremist Muslim military groups in the Middle East or extremist Christian militia groups in America (like the KKK). Although in truth, any actual religious focus is just a mutated component of their core ideology, and will always involve twisting scripture to suit their ideals - sometimes in completely ridiculous ways that contradict the actual religion.

I used to go to Germany for work and I noticed buildings that had huge divots blasted out of them. After seeing several instances of this I asked my German coworker why that was. He said those buildings were from WWII and the giant gouges in the concrete were where swastikas used to be. They figured the buildings were still good so they blasted the swastikas off of them and continued to used them.
So much of Germany had to be rebuilt after the war that if a building wasn't wrecked, it was probably logical to keep it. I've heard that a lot of church bells in Germany still have swastikas on them because it is too expensive to replace them.
There's a hilarious side by side photo somewhere out there of a building with the nazi emblem next to a current photo of the same building with the emblem removed and a burger King sign out front. Caption was "Here's your thousand year Reich "

of course i am far from knowing the whole history, but... great overview i think and good refresher of many details that are important to remember if you want to recognize and make sense of this part of our recent, documented human history. i remember watching a documentary about the "Monasteries" and manhunt for Nazi veterans who were in refuge elsewhere, including Klaus Barbi. it was a nice detail to add to the episode, I think.
Had a cousin who worked in a war museum and got to down to their vault hold some amazing historical weapons including a zweihander and the gun belt buckle that Hitlers closest bodyguards would wear.
Tens of thousands of volunteers came forward from every country The Nazis occupied, mostly enthusiastic about fighting communism. They couldn’t be taken into the German army, so the SS formed divisions to incorporate all these people, who fought most successfully I might add. What I found surprising about the Jewish persecution, was the fact that when you watch footage taken in every eastern European nation before the war started, the persecution of Jews by the citizenry is rampant and extremely harsh. This was a situation that was festering in Europe for very many decades prior to world war two
25:10 - The part where he's talking about how the Nazis would outdrink each other - makes me wonder how many of them developed lifelong alcoholism or drug addictions because of what they did.
Plenty of them developed serious drug habits. They issued methamphetamine regularly to troops. Hitler even got daily injections of it. They also invented most "modern" opioids (oxy/hydro-codone and oxy/hydromorphone). Herman Goring was carrying over 20,000 tablets of dihydrocodeine (an opioid) in a suitcase when captured, according to his own testimony he took 40 tablets a day to "stave off morphine withdrawal". There's a book called 'Blitzed' on the topic of rampant drug abuse by Nazi party officers and the ridiculous over prescribing of mind-altering drugs to their troops.
A lot of them did. The Nazis were famous for "doping" their troops. Methamphetamine, for example, was often given to troops on the front lines, especially to pilots. Not that Germany was the only country to do so - drugs and war have gone hand-in-hand for a very long time. It is very easy to fall into addiction when experiencing the horrors of war. People just want to feel numb. And it's especially easy if the drugs are provided by the government - whether it be cannabis, amphetamines, opiates, tobacco, or alcohol.

This puts the Twilight Zone episode “Deaths-Head Revisited” in a new perspective for me. The episode’s concept of a purely evil SS officer visiting Dachau after the war to soak in his power, only then to be judged with crimes against humanity by the spirits of his victims who died in his camp with his punishment being insanity, sinks in more with additional historical context. Also to be honest, multiple high ranking SS officers ending up being homosexuals sounds more like yaoi fan fiction than reality. I’m really surprised lol. Life is strange after all it seems.

Mr. Simon. You had an awesome Haiti video and I sent it to my family but now it says private. How do I get access to it. It was the accurate analysis that I have ever saw concerning Haiti.
3:06 Emil Maurice was actually Jewish. Hitler actually protected him from the the SS’s pogroms of extermination out of a sense of loyalty. Hitler was known for his loyalty to those who were there with him in the early days of the Party.
Fritz Haber was also granted immunity from extermination because of his WW1 military contributions. That immunity did not extend to his family who perished in the Holocaust. Jews who had served in WW1 or Africans who had served in the German empire's colonial wars were spared from the concentration camps. Such cases and the one you mentioned were not the norm in Nazi Germany. They were outliers...and they witnessed their families and neighbors perish in Germany.
My favourite story from ww2 is the Americans and the Whermact fighting together to storm a castle in Austria and kill all the SS, freeing Olympians and various aristocrats. I love the story because it showed how the regular German army hated the SS

A little correcting here, the infamous black uniform, used by the Allegemeine SS, was used only for ceremonial and parade use. Otherwise, they would have wore field grey uniforms. Despite what tv and films depict.
A little correction of your correcting. The black SS uniform was used as the primary uniform for a time, 1932-1935. It wasn’t until later in the pre-war period that it was relegated to a ceremonial uniform. Shortly after Himmler obtained control of the Gestapo from Goehring in 1934.

Details in the war diaries, National Archives Kew London [ my research re dads war] . Funny thing dad said they treated them as just soldiers , having never had contact with the SS in North Africa or Italy.
Tito was a gorrila fighter a anti-facist or in other words a Communist. Why would he want German SS spiders? other than to kill them for the war crimes they committed in Yugoslavia.

Speaking as a Norse Heathen myself, they're lightening bolts. The Nazis stole our faith and bastardized it all to hell while really not giving a damn about the faith itself except for its own utterly fucked up purposes, ones that truly have nothing to do with Norse Heathenry, whatsoever! There's as much in Nazi Germany that's Norse Heathen as there is in a typical Bible study group! By the time the Nazis got a hold of the Runes, the meanings they attached to them had nothing to do with their actual meanings, whatsoever! Especially when you consider that Sowilo is the rune for victory, and the Nazis became the laughing stock of the world the way they damned well deserved to be, there's absolutely nothing about them that screams "victory," whatsoever! So yeah, those two bastardized symbols that that Nazi scum wore on their uniforms? They're lightening bolts, not runes!
And not the only runes the SS used, either, with the "Race and Settlement Main Office" employing the Othala rune, as well. Nazis sure do love their pagan iconography despite Hitler's repeated insistence that he, and by extension the party, were Catholic.

I think it really says a lot about the German people to keep the camps as a historic landmark to serve as a reminder of what happens when hatred is allowed into power. Many places wouldn’t want that in their homeland ex: the confederate statues in the US.
The difference is that those statues were built to honor those Confederate traitors, while the camps are kept around to show people the horrors of the Holocaust
Only difference is the majority of the confederate statues were built during segregation. They are not historically built by any means. I mean the Robert e Lee statue was put up in 1924, 60 years after the war. It was all to fear monger black people.
Plantation homesteads are still everywhere in the US. What you’re comparing is like saying Germany should have kept statues of hitler and the nazis up.
@@HotEatTheFood eh it's not meant that way. cause the German people keep things like Auschwits around as a reminder of what happened the the people taken there, not to glorify Hitler.

I, as a native German (and having a great grand father with some very bad live choices, to phrase it mondainly) would like to call out that the pronounciation is "Shoots Staffel" (for English speakers) i.e. in German "Schutz Staffel" wich is vaguely translated into "security squadron", "protection unit" or something similar. You will also find sources that refer to them as "Saal Schutz" wich means something like "hall guardiance".

I can't wait to find out what happens! When WW2 actually Finally Ends! Considering the Nazis just took on Jewish Identities and went to form Isreal!!!
12:20 partially correct. Hugo Boss absolutely did receive government contracts to manufacture uniforms for the SS.
That's literally EXACTLY what he said.
This was a situation that was festering in Europe for very many decades prior to world war two
Many centuries. What's worse is even after WW2 Jews who survived the Holocaust and returned to their homes faced even more anti-Semitism.
Damn. One would wonder why that is ALWAYS the case.
You do understand how the famous blitzkrieg was accomplished, well meth, meth, o and more meth to all members of the Nazis.
Arnold Schwazeneggar's father was such a person
Couldn't happen to nicer s**theads
A lot of them did. The Nazis were famous for "doping" their troops. Methamphetamine, for example, was often given to troops on the front lines, especially to pilots.
Not that Germany was the only country to do so - drugs and war have gone hand-in-hand for a very long time. It is very easy to fall into addiction when experiencing the horrors of war. People just want to feel numb. And it's especially easy if the drugs are provided by the government - whether it be cannabis, amphetamines, opiates, tobacco, or alcohol.

Those are Sowilo runes, not lightning bolts.
Had to quickly fact check this. I learn something new every day.
They still look like a bolt.
