- In this next fun-loving instalment of Miniature Dork Universe, I will compare some of the 10 and 12mm Germans available on the market and show you how they look in relation to one-another. I started with the Victrix late-war Germans and bought some vehicles and guns to support a Battalion for 'O' Group rules. I will be making armies for Operation Avalanche, the landings at Salerno in 1943. Here's a link to a PDF where I collected my painting references for Germans in the Italian theatre: www.dropbox.co...

10/12mm is a great scale for battalion/company level on a 6x4 table.
I have used a large number of both 6mm (great for tactical play) and 20mm(look pretty and good for skirmishes) So am thinking of starting in 10/12mm as a compromise.(And cover periods I have not covered)
Timely review! Just got my initial 10mm Pendraken trial order in the other day (took less than 10 days to arrive after ship to My Florida residence!), then ran across Victrix tanks and infantry. Putting together TRUE BATTALION level (non abstracted) armies for Battlegroup and this helped a lot. Love metal minis but at this scale plastic might be the way to go.
Thanks, very helpful to be introduced to the Butler resin. Pendraken have been updating their 10mm WWII over the past few years and those vehicles are slightly larger, so much more compatible with Victrix 1/144. Also they have crisper detail with te track assembly separate and just glued on as one unit, so a typical tank, say panther has 4 parts, body, 2 tracks and turret.
May I ask what made you start another scale? There's not that big of a difference between 15 and 10mm and it seems like a big investment doing everything again. Personally I think the difference is just too small so since I already have 15mm I went with 6mm. But I am curious to hear your reasons!
They actually are quite a bit smaller, but I just liked them, mostly.
There are some periods that each of us like the most. Each scale has it's own strengths and weaknesses and not to forget that ...many of us just like to paint the stuff! 🥸🙄😁
It actually makes quite a significant difference. A 1:144 tank occupies about 25% of the surface area on the table which gives you a lot more real estate across the table.
Hey man, great video. Could you make a video describing your painting process for the infantry and vehicles, maybe a tutorial?
Hi, I'm glad you liked it. My next projects are all 15mm, but I can show how I paint in that scale. The infantry is a bit different than how I do 12mm, but the vehicles are the same.
I love these new ranges of figures and would use these if starting again but not a fan of the O group system alas. Horses for courses though..
The Victrix 50mm light mortar is still useable in '44. Flames of War Bloody Omaha book gives them as an option for german coastal defence divisions, like the 352nd infantry division and the 726th grenadierregiment.
Pithead miniatures are worth a look, they have a very comprehensive range.
Some of the Dragon vehicles are a pain to build, particularly the tracks. At least Victrix are designed as gaming pieces and are simple builds. Great to see 10/12 getting some coverage.
How about Minifigs 12mm? I love the figures but then I am a bit jaded. I used to make them here in the USA.
