Only Taylor Swift can turn the simple concept of "you opened car doors for me and gave me your sweaters/jackets when it was cold like a gentleman" to the poetic brilliance of "Your midas touch on the Chevy door, November flush and your flannel cure" ma'am, you're a queen❤
@@Charles01343 while this somehow made absolutely no sense, it made perfect sense. Now waiting for the folk ballad Taylor will write about when her mother went grocery shopping “ and 🥦 & 🥬 changed her life” that will somehow be poetic and life changing for me.
"Champagne problem" refers to 'first world problem' which is considered not serious compared to the world's poverty, death, war etc. The narrator is (sadly) referring to her own mental health as a 'champagne problem'. And "crestfallen" is an actual adjective meaning "sad and disappointed". No worries tho! Taylor got all swifties took out our dusty dictionaries fr :')
@@suffireax The phrase Champagne Problems is also away to dismiss someone, who is hurt...tell them it is "Champagne Problems" so you shouldn't complain...it is away to silence someone.
"Champagne Problems" is also used to signify """useless""" worries in a more broad sense, not just about expensive stuff, like if you are complaining about being sad or dejected when people are dying of cancer. So in the song, the person is feeling sad because she rejected him, but people see it as champagne problems or as just not a pressing issue. The protagonist may have depression, but oh what a champagne problem it is.
Ok cancer is extremely serious and bad, but depression is also a very serious issue, and often couples with suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Mental health AND physical health problems are both valid.
She is meaning that it’s still a privilege to have the money to even buy a train ticket, a ring, get married, have break ups, and so much more we take for granted when there are people out there who don’t even have a roof over their heads, or a promise of a next meal, or even the promise of safety. I personally think its a story about their engagement, but like in an alternate reality. Like here's what that day would have been if...it didn't end well.
@@someonenamedcarolineI'm coming back to this videos and this comment hurt me so bad. We went from these type of comments to "I wouldn't marry me either" 💔
What I love about this song's title is they bought all this champagne to celebrate an engagement that now isn't happening, so now they literally have a champagne problem. Love Taylor and her double meanings.
Champagne problems may have been the title for 3 reasons: - Champagnes are always celebratory but here the Dom perignon which was popped made the air much more somber and gave them a stab in the wound. -Public always opines on problems in everyone's life and the rich are never shown any mercy. They go through heartbreak just the same but it's reduced to champagne problems or insignificant worries in the eye of the public. - Turning down the proposal was no easy choice and definitely not a mere champagne problem because it would shatter a fragile heart into pieces. But she comforts herself with the hope of someone else, someday, patching up the tapestry she shred. "Tolerate it" and "My tears ricochet" would be great next choices :)
@@barbaraef9675 I'm glad you can relate to my thoughts. I agree with the song being regretful but I don't think she feels like she made the wrong decision but rather feels immense guilt for breaking his heart unexpectedly and without a clear reason. The guy is painted as such a gentleman too but even then it didn't feel right. She wishes he finds his person as she was sure that it wasn't her.
I live this song because it doesn’t villainize either of them. You feel bad for him for being rejected, but you can’t blame her for not being in love with him anymore
Oh I just wanted to add that the word crestfallen actually means sad and disappointed so there wasn't a double meaning behind that she just meant that he was at the front of the place (landing) and disappointed that she left before he could ask her to marry him I think.
That’s a great way to interpret those lyrics! To be “crestfallen” means to hang one’s head in disappointment. And yes, a crest is an insignia of one’s lineage. She also has these lyrics towards the end of the bridge that go: “she’ll patch up your tapestry that I shred.” A tapestry is something hung over a mantlepiece to display one’s family tree- and the first person here ‘shreds’ that. This song focuses on rejection. She refuses the promise of a future with that man who proposed. His love for her posits the possibility of having a family with her; of having her become part of his family; of having her for the family’s succession. This is what makes the champagne problem trope so poignant, because champagne is something that one would usually want and enjoy, and is also intoxicating. But at the same time, what might seem shallow for other people might mean the world to some. The rug was pulled right out from under his feet when she slighted his proposal. His sadness that follows suit is the most dignifying response he could possibly give to the situation. It suggests that his intentions were pure, and reinforces the fact that love was behind the intention to marry her, but that there is respect to the rejection, too. It sure as hell homes in on the idea that some people can act differently towards things they might feel entitled to, and the love that people give and show one are definitely privileges that can be taken advantage of, which can actually also be refused.
You've serious become of three people that I consider my favorites when it comes to reactions. I really appreciate how your reactions have you fully enjoying the music while also breaking down the lyrics and other production value of the song!

@@suffireax Think of the video for All Too Well, when she is upset but he blames her for being upset and accuses her of getting things wrong, and gaslights her, while she is the one washing up for his dinner party.
I’ve always thought that she chose the title “Champagne Problems” as an interesting play on words. Because like you said, it typically is used to describe something trivial, whereas a rejected proposal is anything but trivial. But also, champagne is served when celebrating milestones and instead they are mourning the end of the relationship, which is a definite problem when you were planning on celebrating. Also, crestfallen is another word to describe intense heartbreak and sadness. But I like how you interpreted it as her refusing to take his “crest.”
So often you hear songs from the person who did the asking - loved but wasn’t loved as much in return - but rarely from the person who did the leaving.

You need to listen “happiness”. That’s the saddest song I’ve ever heard. It breaks my heart every single time but I love it. It’s about breaking up and moving on when you still love that person. A masterpiece 💕💕
“Somebody’s night is not going well at all” Ha! That almost took me out 😂😭 This song is genius and stabs me in the heart every time because I honestly feel for both of them. Also crestfallen means dejected, disappointed, devastated. But I do like the idea of an actual family crest falling…with their champagne problems.
To me, it feels like the champagne becomes a problem because it was bought with the intention of celebrating a happy future, and now no one wants to drink it. Now it's just a symbol of happiness gone. Of course, people who are depressed may also self-medicate with alcohol, and then be more blunt because of it. The feel of this song reminds me a lot of one by Fold Zandura, called Stormy Hill: "I fell awake into the love that slipped away; sadly, I need more time..." sometimes there will never be enough time, and that is the answer by itself. If you always need more time, what you really need is to let go.
I instantly subscribed once I've watched your seven and august reactions. Now, after this one, my notification bell icon is open lol. Looking forward to seeing more of Taylor content, bro! Taylor is such a genius lyricist and I have so much love and respect for her for that.
I think the champagne problems is that marriage is supposed to be this big happy celebratory thing, but she couldn't go through with it. So like it's kind of like a "boo hoo someone proposes to you, poor girl" but also, there's supposed to be chamagne at the wedding that didn't happen
This song I always admire her low notes , like? So beautiful and clear : she also has a beautiful falsetto and mix and a ton of range I don’t know if she gets enough credit for her vocal range in general but as a longtime fan who also sings : I respect it; I have to bring her songs to voice lessons often to get them down 😆
My own interpretation of the phrase is that, champagne is used for special occasions. To celebrate, or make a toast. In the song it was a proposal. She said no. There was no toast, no speech was needed. And since the glasses of champagne can’t be put back in the bottle, it’s s visual reminder that she said no.
I am very pleasantly surprised by all of your reactions to Tay's music. No drama, no acting stupid- just genuine interest, and real understanding. In ALL the videos you have done to date. Very impressed, Suffi! Please do "Mad Woman" when you have the chance, from Lang Pond sessions, with the video, I am curious to see your reaction. Just hit subscribe- SDK
I love the way that the champagne problems (first world, mocked problems) can apply both to the narrator's mental health struggles but also to the sadness the guy must feel at being rejected and the end of the relationship. Like "you're incredibly rich, who cares, we're supposed to feel bad for you? you'll find someone else" but that doesn't make the heartbreak any less. And then also having the phrased turn against the narrator as in "you're not happy in the relationship and within yourself? get over yourself, a great, super rich guy wants to marry you so your life is great". Really deep and layered and I love that there are no bad guys within the relationship, we feel for both of them, it's only the judgmental outsiders who we dislike.
Champagne problems, means the equivalent to “first world problems” to me. Like to have something that’s an issue, but in the grand scheme of the world, it’s petty and insignificant. She has champagne problems with this man.. meaning she doesn’t have a lot of good reasons to deny him… but she does. She says “I couldn’t give a reason” the reasons were very small but none the less, she just didn’t love him even tho she “should” have.. she just didn’t realize it until the moment he proposed.- that’s my interpretation. This is my fav song on the album for sure!
Champagne problems refer to smaller or 'shallow' problems compared to dying or world hunger. So here the girl who rejected the proposal was going through something, as you can see in the lyrics 'madhouse I made a joke well it's made for me' but that joke became true but other people wont consider mental health issues as real problems so they would label it 'champagne problem'. In the end she says 'and you won't remember all my Champagne problems' meaning you won't remember me rejecting you for a person problem cuz it's just a shallow problem for the society. Also another reason is that being rejected by a someone is considered 'champagne problem' cuz it's not considered anything serious so she is saying it sarcastically 'oh you're probably chrestfallen and depressed but you know champagne problems'
I love that you try to analyze the lyrics and the emotion. Thank you for your intelligent insight. But you broke my heart you missed the last the little rift! My vote is for Closure. It's different and one of my favorite songs from her!
I like how Taylor plays on that rhyme: “One for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go.” Taylor: “One for the money, two for the show, I never was ready, so I watch you go” Brilliant! Crestfallen is from the comb of a rooster or a crest, when it droops or is crestfallen. So when someone hangs there head, they look crestfallen. A stronger word for sad. Miserable. Where you can’t even hold your body up from the weight of the emotional pain.
Omg I don’t know if you’ve committed to just her most recent work but you need to react to All Too Well!! It’s an absolute fan favorite and in her new album she’s going to be releasing a ten minute version of the song!
I have seen this song pop up a few times but I wasn't sure if I should get to know her work a little more before diving in to such a high regarded song like that
“Champagne Problens” has a double meaning in this song. The one you mentioned and the second meaning is that the family bought champagne to celebrate- so now they have a “problem” with this champagne they can’t use.

Bingeing all your Taylor Swift reactions right now. Lol saw the video of you reacting to her lyricism. I'm down in a rabbit hole now.
Crestfallen means very sad
Love watching peoples first reactions to this song. Tay Tay is such a lyrical genius but this one shows it off so perfectly 🥰
“Crestfallen” is another word for being devastated. She left him in pieces on the doorstep.
So beautiful and clear : she also has a beautiful falsetto and mix and a ton of range I don’t know if she gets enough credit for her vocal range in general but as a longtime fan who also sings : I respect it; I have to bring her songs to voice lessons often to get them down 😆
Ps react to exile next. i just know you'll love that one!
Yes!
This song wrecks me every time
this is the best reaction i’ve ever seen
i love love love ur videos
My own interpretation of the phrase is that, champagne is used for special occasions.
To celebrate, or make a toast.
In the song it was a proposal.
She said no. There was no toast, no speech was needed.
And since the glasses of champagne can’t be put back in the bottle, it’s s visual reminder that she said no.
"This dorm was once a madhouse"
I made a joke, "Well, it's made for me".
a.k.a. "MAD" like who writes that? ugh Champagne Problems Supremacy 💯
I think that the champagne problems is a double entendre as well. He already bought the champagne for a wedding that didn’t happen as well.
i wish i could be taylor for one day so i could understand how can she write such amazing songs about something that she never lived
Crestfallen is just a fancy word for sad or disappointed but I loved your interpretation of it!! Maybe she used it as a double meaning 🥰
I love your reactions and the fact that you do them standing up haha
Crestfallen means melancholy, or extremely sad hahah. She wont leave you standing "depressed and alone" on the landing
Taylor and Joe (her bf) both happily in the relationship really be like: hey babe, let write the most heart wrenching song ever
I love your reaction!!!
everyday i wake up, i always look up to your channel and see if you have new taylor upload HAHAHHAH
11:07 He ain't never going to find another 🏦 Bank as beautiful as her..
Plz do ☀️Sunshine☀️ by Liam Payne...it's such a happy vibe....He just released it on this 27th (it's also in the new Disney movie Ron Gone Wrong)
You simply have to do the album. You’re absolutely musically and analytically amazing. I’m a new sub for it!
my favorite taylor song
Ivy !!!
Crestfallen means your face fell into disappointment and sadness because the answer wasn’t what you expected. 💀🤣
I love that you try to analyze the lyrics and the emotion. Thank you for your intelligent insight. But you broke my heart you missed the last the little rift! My vote is for Closure. It's different and one of my favorite songs from her!
Omg taste bestieeee 😭💖💖💖
Idk why they hate closure it's like my jam 😭😭🤎
love ur videos
just a random point that I'm pretty sure you've been corrected on - Champagne Problems is like "rich people problems"
plssss tolerate it and peace next!!!
more of her pls
Love all your videos about Taylor Swift
I'm a man but you're so handsome 🤝🏻
I appreciate it bro 🤝🏻
masterpiece
Meu momento!!!
Also side note this song makes me want a Taylor swift and Lin Manuel Miranda collab .
I like how Taylor plays on that rhyme: “One for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go.” Taylor: “One for the money, two for the show, I never was ready, so I watch you go”
Brilliant!
Crestfallen is from the comb of a rooster or a crest, when it droops or is crestfallen. So when someone hangs there head, they look crestfallen. A stronger word for sad. Miserable. Where you can’t even hold your body up from the weight of the emotional pain.
I believe "Crestfallen on the landing" means embarrassed and humiliated
Omg I don’t know if you’ve committed to just her most recent work but you need to react to All Too Well!! It’s an absolute fan favorite and in her new album she’s going to be releasing a ten minute version of the song!
I have seen this song pop up a few times but I wasn't sure if I should get to know her work a little more before diving in to such a high regarded song like that
“Champagne Problens” has a double meaning in this song. The one you mentioned and the second meaning is that the family bought champagne to celebrate- so now they have a “problem” with this champagne they can’t use.
Marjorie plsss, or maybe All Too Well bcs i like when people pay attention with the lyric
