Hey Guys, I had Berghia before, but never really observed them eating Aiptasia. This time around, im putting them in my 5 gallon refugium loaded with aiptasia. Let follow and see what happens! 😃
Tom, thanks for the video. I purchased 5 Berghia about 2 months ago after I got a massive aiptasia outbreak. I never see them but have to believe that they are hard at work since my aiptasia count is dwindling. You always seem to be doing videos on what I’m going through in my tank. Thanks again.
Hey JTDR, YW, happy to hear you see some reduction in the Aiptasia. I’m hoping for the same👍🏻
Hello. any update with Berghia? I have tried twice in the main tank, both times I did not see any result. Μy aquarium is 300 liters (79 gallons) and I have fish: 2 Amphiprion ocellaris, 1 foxface, 3 damsel, 1 sifting goby, 1Two Spot Bristletooth Tang, 1 clean shrimp, 1 coral shrimp (boxer). your channel is very good!
Hi Christi, my Berghia did eat all my aiptasia, however they were in my refugium with no chance of predators eating them. I’m not sure if your 2 shrimp could be the problem. I’ve had good luck with peppermint shrimp eating aiptasia. File fish will eat them, but they will eat zoas and pick at other stuff.
I had an aiptaisia outbreak in my tank and these worked like magic. I kept trying to use the chemical solutions, but they always came back.
Hi Virgo, absolutely right! Berghia are the best. A bit pricey, but they get the job done👍🏻
Hey Tom - good to see a new video. Your refugium really took off. How did you create that population of amphipods? Hitchhikers or did you add them?
Hi Mets, the pods were just from the older system when I made the transfer to the 75 gallon. Did not add anything. It’s amazing how fast things multiply when there are no predators👍🏻😊
Tom reefer! Nice video. I look forward to seeing the results
Hi David, thanks! Me too😊
Nice one Tom!
Thanks X! 😃
I’ll be out to check Instagram 🤪
Tom, how did you manage to get Aiptasia in all your tanks? Side note - just noticed something unsubscribed me from you channel, just subbed again, who knows.
Hi LKapitan, I believe they were on the live rock I got from fish guy Mike. 😊 they were not visible at the time. I’ve always had periods of aiptasia throughout the years. One disadvantage of real live rock. Usually, with peppermint shrimp, I eliminate them. However, this time around, my peppermint shrimp have yet to eat them. Thanks for subbing up again 👍🏻😊
Great video time very informative I'd like to see the outcome of this experiment
Hi Chris! Thanks! We will see!😊👍🏻
First🖐️always watching your video 😁
You go way back from the beginning Miguel correct? Or no? 😊
I bought 3 small ORA peppermint shrimp after seeing 2 aptasia in my 15g, and within a day, both were gone. They've been nice to have around and tend mostly to scavenge :). I love nudibranchs but every time I try to buy, my LFS says they'll die out after eating the aptasia--what's the plan post aptasia to keep them around, Tom?
Hi Emily, great that the peppermint shrimp worked. There can never really be a plan after Berghia eat all your aiptasia, unless I plan on turning one of my tanks into breeding them. Which I won’t. It is a problem.
@@TOMReefer Thanks for the thoughtful reply! In my case, after the aptasia disappeared, 2 of the 3 ORA peppermints disappeared as well, but the third is super friendly and actually swims up to me and crawls my hand when I put it in the tank for maintenance purposes. Love your channel--learned a lot from you and now have a 15g nano and 2g desk pico :)
That's pretty cool!
Very cool!😃
I have 4 big Aiptaisa peeing me right off, right in my line of sight, and also several small Aiptasia, I gave the boiling water method a go and it did not work,,, I've been toying with the idea of buying Berghia, £40 for 3 Berghia are not cheap in the uk, and the only other major problem I have is,, My 3 Wrasse, The wrasse would be in for a treat if I added Berghia, on the other hand, I do have a Copperband currently in quarantine at my LFS, hoping to pick it up this week. if that fails, it will be injection time,, Aiptasia X, which will defiantly kill the Aiptasia.
Hi Warren, this is why they call aiptasia a pest. That Copperband could work. I had one years ago and it ate aiptasia. I haven’t had luck with Aiptasia X. It will kill them, but after a time they come back. You might try peppermint shrimp. They have worked for me, but not every time.

Hey Tom have you thought about trying the Kessil A160 tune blue?
Hey James, I haven’t yet, but I know it’s a really quality light 👍🏻
@@TOMReefer I think all of us are ready for you to get another tank and use that that light
Haha, I’m sure eventually I will. 😃
Hi Tom. Nice animal. Hope that will work. You don’t want some peppermint shrimp ?
Hi Jean, I have peppermint shrimp in my other tanks. They are not eating the aiptasia. I have had success with peppermint shrimp in the past, but these are not eating the aiptasia. I will try the Berghia in the refugium only at this time.
@@TOMReefer ah. Ok. I wait the result. They’re very cool animal.
Yes, I agree👍🏻😊
Hi where did you purchase them?
Hi Foggymorning, vender is called reeftown.com Small but reliable 👍🏻Jeff is a contact person. The update is, that they eliminated all my Berghia in my refugium 😊
I saw those this weekend at absolutely fish I always wondered if they worked
They will do the job in the right situation. Feedback from viewers is, they will work. 👍🏻
I have a infestation in my 10 gallons nano reef of aiptasia , I put 6 nubies in a month 💯 clean
That’s great! Where did you get yours? I may need to get some again 🤪
@@TOMReefer Wwc I live in Orlando , I was planning to harvest those.. but I have enough with my 2 🪸 reef aquariums and the phytoplankton that i grow
Nice! 👍🏻😊
👍very cool
They are!
can't wait to see how it go"s
Hey Alan, me too! 👍🏻😊
Which are predators? Also shrimps or hermets
Peppermint shrimp can eat aiptasia anemones. Hermit crabs eat algae.
Those are the biggest aiptasia I ever seen lmao
Haha, I’ve had bigger over the years 😁
Yo yo
Hey Tru, Thanks for checking in! 👍🏻😊
verfied it works i also breed them.
Great to hear! Maybe you can give me some tips! 😊how to you keep enough aiptasia for them?
I have a 40 gallon aptasia breeding tank. The breeding tank for the bergia is 10 gallons. i keep only about 100 at a time and they eat about 50 aptasia a week. i pester aptasia so they spread i also feed the aptasia rods food/ reef roids.
Great, so you are pro! 👍🏻😃 thanks. How do you remove the Berghia to transfer to your display?
peppermint shrimp and large amphipods eat the baby's from what I've noticed.
@@TOMReefer take a pipette and cut the end off, so it wont sqeeze them. suck up and apply to low flow area along the wall or rocks. they can eat aptasia alone or in pairs. if the aptasia is massive they team up.
