Keep doing what you are doing, manual removal and water changes

step one test the tank adjust the levels to ideal range, step two cleanup crew via Mexican turbos, tuxedo urchins, or a sea hare , hermits of different variety and maybe a algae blenny as others stated and you should be on your way to some success

Emerald crabs might help. Really you need to focus on reducing nitrate/phophate and keep the tank stable.
Maintain salinity, make sure your pH is correct, everything else you can ignore until you have more corals.

If you want to battle the green hair algae naturally. You can get a Sea hare (Dolabella Auricularia). This animal only eats long hair algae types. It needs algae to survive; otherwise it will die. Maybe you can get one from your LFS and bring it back when it's finished (it takes a couple of days).

Keep pulling out algae as you do consistent water changes, make sure your nutrients don’t bottom out, and time will take care of the rest. My first reef tank looked like dog poop for 18 months. This hobby ain’t for everyone.

Also you did a 50% or more of a water change this can “shock” and Crash your tank keep it at a minimum of 10% 😊

Get the Salifert Test Kits I bet ur Phosphate and Nitrate Levels are High ! Besides you just going through “the ugly stage” at this time is when Most of the people QUIT cause u gotta be ON TOP OF THE TANK 10% water changes WEEKLY ( 3gals 1/2 ) and keep your parameters as close possible to this:
Temperature 76 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit
    Specific Gravity 1.023 to 1.025
    pH 8.2 to 8.4
    Ammonia 0 ppm
    Nitrite 0 ppm
    Nitrate < 10 ppm
    Alkalinity 8 and 13 ₫KH
    Calcium 400 and 450 ppm
    Magnesium 1200 and 1320 ppm
    Phosphate 0 ppm
    lodine 0.5 to 0.8 ppm
    Iron 0.1 to 0.3 ppm
The 1st year IS GOING TO BE FULL OF UP’S AND DOWNS ! Don’t Quit ! Your hard work will be rewarded! Trust me

@@ethangodoy9218if u willing to “upgrade” the test kits go with Hanna I got a guy on Mercari that sells them more affordable than Amazon/BRS etc and they’re brand new, more accurate and give u the right numbers digitally, you should make or share ur ig for those like me that want to help you through this journey 🙂 ur tank may be the same age as mine. Also there’s an app for android/apple to track your water changes/parameters that helps A LOT to keep track of everything! Please keep uploading content 🤩
