To answer your question at the end, Norm knew exactly where every joke was going and he was gonna drag it out in a few different ways. He acts like he’s just casually telling a joke but he knows every piece to the puzzle.
I think I've heard him talk about somewhere before, maybe Howard Stern or with Conan. He knows the punchline and then just purposely rambles around it.
except for the moth story, he made that one up on the spot. He had no material for that episode of conan he was supposed to go home but one of the people couldnt make it, so conan asked norm to stay out longer and norm said he was out of jokes and didnt have anything planned, and he just came up with that moth story.
@@bananas1318 no, he did not come up with the moth joke live. The joke itself was told him by someone else. He shared this in an interview. But he did his riff and make up a lot of the content as he went. He basically knows the skeleton or “tent poles” and makes up what is in between.
@randall-king he made up the majority of the joke on the spot to drag it on because he needed to kill time. so what I recall it's from a book the whole few minutes of the moth joke. yes it was said in an interview.
Norm is nearly impossible to describe to anyone who didn't grow up with him. What a loss.
Theo Von described it perfectly. "Losing Norm is like losing a book no one has a copy of."
(๑ơ ₃ ơ)♥ He was lovable and splendidly demented.
Fellow great comedians described him as playing dumb, while actually being the smartest, most well-read guy around. When asked, Norm has said on numerous occasions that he dropped out of high school at 16. It's only from Wiki that I realized he graduated high school at 14, took a year off, was accepted to Carleton University in Ottawa for math and philosophy at 16, but then dropped out.
Introduction to Formal Logic is a 1st year philosophy course taken by primarily math and computer science students, as it's relevant to coding languages, so we can see where that joke came from.
The names he uses in the moth joke suggests he's well read on Tolstoy/Dostoevsky... but he pretends to struggle with the pronunciations.
His brother, Neil, was a foreign correspondent.
Norm said that he memorized 5 or 6 punch lines for a 45 minute set and spent the rest of time meandering around on stage. He knew the punchline, in other words, but tried to improvise as much of the set up as possible, Just a natural comedic genius
@@PeterPi-wt2uc ok
@@PeterPi-wt2uc I’ve listened to most of his standup. I’ve heard them same jokes told differently several times, ultimately being polished and perfected in the end. Also, you’re probably accusing me of what you’re guilty of. A lot of that going around these days. Gullible to think it’s going to keep working for you.
@@PeterPi-wt2uc it’s not an urban legend when the man himself says that’s what he does, and then you witness it
@@PeterPi-wt2uc Your egocentrism implies that you’re the kid
Norm on dennis Miller talking about smoking!
(๑ơ ₃ ơ)♥ Norm was loveable beyond measure and splendidly demented.
Forever missed 💔
Norm + Office Blokes = instant like.👍
He cleverly implied Regis was gay lol "and Im told I can't ask you"
Norm takes a 30 sec joke, and adds bits and bobs, and makes it into a tale. The chickens, the cigarette, the bus stop, the University of Science - all homespun by our funny in a good way Uncle Norm. We all know he isn't married with kids and a dog, but he somehow enables us to buy in to these deceits so it's real enough we don't hear it as a joke. If that makes sense.
Norm is the goat
Norm is always the smartest guy in the room but he likes to make people think he’s an idiot for his own entertainment lol
Not only that, he was known to deliberately bomb sets for his own entertainment, and then would stick around the club until the last person left greeting every person there LMAO. When he killed he would just leave. The subtle genius of Norm.
Never enough Norm
Full South Park episodes. “The F Word” season 13 episode 12 gets my vote 👍🏼
Norm had the biggest doghouse we've ever seen down at the UoS.
Funnily enough, his son is a professor of literature down at the University of California (UC Irvine).
Norm was the best!!
Norm 100% had routines, but as most comics do, they are constantly tinkering around with the bit. Norm very much looked up to Cosby and his story telling style as they are very similar in delivery, tho their content was miles apart. They didn't want it to sound 100% polished as it takes away a little from their style. The way they both sound like they are riffing off the top of the head is very much intentional.
Good ole Norm
These werent even jokes. Norm was just being honest.
Dammit you guys are missing out without the video 😢
I hope there are backups of the ImNotNorm channel, it's so convienent to find all of Norm's videos together in one spot so it would be a shame if it disappeared some day.
Ty for the Norm content. Great channel, great reaction.
Does the dude on the left have a Cowboys From Hell tattoo? 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Listen to Gilbert gottfried’s aristocrats joke
you should read his book.....hilarious
That game 6 days in fallujah is out on steam theres a video of guys playing titled The Battle of Fallujah Simulator that released today - six days in fallujah (early access)
Awe man... you guys need video even if quality is bad
You can tell all of these jokes today…if you’re funny. The problem comes when people who aren’t funny try telling the joke.
Yeah. Norm is a joke teller. Kinda like Jimmy Carr. Joke after joke after joke.
South Park is better for full episodes so you can really get the context, and the irony that most episodes are trying to convey. Like when Macho Man claims hes a woman just so he can compete and dominate women's sports. Then he gloats about it. Obviously playing off real life stuff but made in a funny way to make people REALLY see how stupid some things in real life are
😂😂😂😂
The point of the last joke was that the punchline was obvious, and he’s taking as long as possible to draw it out and add meaningless bits like the guy smoking at the bus station to make the bus come. It’s all planned out.
I think the cig is supposed to foreshadow that he’s going to assume the guy is gay cuz Norm has often correlated cig smoking with oral sex.
Norm's jokes were carefully written and scripted way in advance.. He hardly slept and left a closet full of unused jokes before his death..
Conan once said the entire reason Norm made up all of these jokes on the fly was to waste as much time on some of the most expensive airways on the planet telling some stupid joke that goes nowhere. Great stuff!!!!
its better with the video.
I think the doghouse joke is carefully crafted. There's an implication that Norm is joking about his own heterosexuality when he invites his neighbor to have chicken with him and the last part where the gay guy does the same. Also, smoking a cigarette is a euphemism for oral fixation, as Norm explained on numerous occasions.
Norm was great at telling old jokes, but making up his own story around them. "the farmer's daughter" type jokes but with his own spin.
8:40 insinuating gay activities
What do they mean you can't tell these jokes today? Of course you can. Just because comedians are scared to say them doesn't mean they can't. Typical of the coward to blame someone else.
South Park is way better than Family Guy
Boring that this compilation only focused on gay jokes
Southpark!
