You are absolutely BRILLIANT!!! A woman after my own heart! I was stressing about spending $ for special dotting tools and now I can relax and raid my garage, closet, kitchen & craft room. THANK YOU for thinking outside of the dots!! xxoo
Thank you so much for your awesome review. It's great to know that we can likely find SOMETHING around home that can work in a pinch. Crafts don't have to be expensive. In fact, in my younger parenting days, crafts were all about using what you had in creative, new and unusual ways. I'm really loving rock mandalas. When my creative grandkids visit I will have an awesome new project for us all to do. I can't wait!
Great info! I was in the hardware store yesterday and out in my hubbies workshop tonight looking at "dotting" tools. Now I have a list of things to borrow!
Beautiful and looks like fun. I worked as a nail tech and used these tools to make tiny little flowers on my clients acrylic nails. I am definitely going to give this a try. Thank you for sharing your tips.
I feel so honored you mentioned my name. I screamed it to my hubby in the other room. I blasted the video link to all my friends coming this Saturday. I'm so excited! I'm organizing another Mandala Dot Painting Party for July and October. Where can I email pictures of our finished projects?
Thank you for sharing all the ideas on different tools and paints... Love the golden paints they are expensive but I love them also. Will be doing a mandala rock soon. Thank for your wonderful tutorials. Angie
Thank you for this information! Since I first found you on RUclips, I've been hooked. I've been trying to collect dotting tools per your suggestions, but this video is wonderful because you compare and demonstrate. I now have added Craftsman drill bits to my list of tools to collect. My daughter-in-law is interested in this art for her 5th grade class. I've shared this video with her so she can gather inexpensive tools for that. What fun!! Your work is brilliant!
That is great to hear. I have been taking these tutorial "on the road" to our local liberal and teaching classes there. I have a 32 inch monitor that I hook up to my computer, and I bring all the supplies, and we paint away. It is so much fun to see people finding out that they CAN DO THIS, and make something beautiful with just a little practice.
Thank you so much Kristin for your very helpful video(s) and info! Iam new in this field and getting more and more inspired. This video I really needed... my creativity for finding excellent tools was drying out and I love your 'out of the box' tools and shared experiences
Your so talented. You inspire me to try this. I did two stones before on my own that turned out nicely but they were very random and not perfect. Thanks for this video so I can try again and maybe do a better job next time. Love your videos. Thanks again! 💜
Thank You Kristin. Very nice !!!!! I also started probyvat to do this kind of painting. You are my teacher !! Kristin where can you buy the tool that you show ? My name is Olga , I'm from Russia . Moscow
Grazie Kristin. Molto bello !!!!! Ho anche iniziato a provarci fare così dipinto a mano. È il mio maestro !! Kristin dove è possibile acquistare uno strumento che si sta visualizzando ? Mi chiamo Olga , sono dalla Russia . Mosca
Thanks....I saw some of these painted rocks at a local craft fair....with your helpful video...I am now trying to make some too! You video is excellent!
Hi Kristin, As always, thank you so much for all you do! Your sweet dog is precious! I just wanted to add that I enjoy the Pittsburgh transfer punch set, that you recommended on a previous video. Also, previous to that, the plastic crochet hooks but I tend not to use them as much because of the variety of sizes in the punch set. Hugs and can't wait till your next video
Hello, my name is Clara, I live in Colombia, I love how the stones work, I discovered that art recently and I think it's beautiful, I'm giving my first points. You are very dear. Thank you for teaching this art.
Clara Manrique Hola Clara yo soy de Medellín, Colombia pero vivo en los Ángeles. También pinto mándalas. Estoy aprendiendo y me gusta muchísimo. Conocí el arte de pintar mándalas en Medellín.
Hi there.. it's always a happy moment to see your videos.. Nice topic you shared. It was helpful for sure. Keep making more and more videos and I'll keep coming back. Stay blessed Kristin 😘
Thanks for this video. Very helpful and your work is beautiful!! I just finished painting my canvas and anxiously waiting for it to dry to get started !!
Great information. I've had trouble finding dotting tools in my area...now I know I can use everyday items. I'm a big diy girl, so I have drill bits in every size imaginable! lol
Thank you - So much useful information here ! My son's idea - he bought me a very inexpensive set of graduated transfer punch tools ( metal and come in a case ) which have flat bottoms, so to speak. They work very well too. Lots of different sizes to play with.
Ohhhhh...I am going to look for some! Thank you, Denise. I love the metal tools because they don't absorb paint like the wood ones,. and you can use really hot-water to clean them off completely.
Thank you so much for going to all that effort. I am brand new at this, and i found the information extremely helpful. I can't wait to try. By the way, your dog is gorgeous.
Hi Kristin. Thank you for your tools and tips video. I would not of even thought of using drill bits to do my dots. I think I will be looking at everything a little differently from now on!. Like so many other fans on this page, I too would like to know where you get the curved bristle brush from. I look forward to your next video.
The curved brush was from Michaels in a sale bin. I suspect is was accidentally bent...so I am trying to duplicate it using both synthetic and natural bristles and boiling water. I will let everyone know how it goes!
I love your videos. I like how you explain things in details. What are your best videos for a class? Can you please show how to find the center of the canvas and rock? I believe you did this in another video, but I can't find it. My concern for me is that I have bad neuropathy in my right hand and it's hard for me to judge pressure. Anyway, your videos really inspire me. Thank you!!
Hi Kristin I'm a beginner and have learned so much from your videos. Thank you for sharing! You showed us some different paint consistencies and how different they perform and look when they dry. Can you tell me how much of a bump I'm aiming for? I'm struggling a little finding the right consistency. Thank you!
Awesome video! Thanks for the great tips and sharing some ideas for tools to use. I would love to get a set of actual mandala painting tools but they are kind of pricy and when you add in the crazy shipping cost they are just way too much to spend on them.
Thank you for doing this video. I've always been curious to know what's involved in this type of art and your explanations were very informative. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. 😊
That was fabulous - thank you. Unfortunately those paints are difficult to get in Australia. I've tried many and found Jo Sonja's matte fluid acrylics to be great - just in case you get asked by other Aussies. Anj x
Simply Superb Kristin! one other tool I use in addition to drill bits is a set of Allen keys.....they too come in assorted sizes as the drill bits and u can add dots on top of each other. I am looking for the curved brush. pls could you share the store details. I have seen a Martha Stewart set but it doesn't work that well.
Mitali banerjee i dont know if it would be the same kind of curved brush that you all are looking for but at Wal-Mart in the cosmetics look for the ELF brand makeup brushes. Occasionally you can find an eyeliner brush that is pretty fine and is curved. I am not sure why but not all Wal-Mart's always have that particular brush. They cost $2-$3! I dont know if that will help or if its the type you might be looking for but just a thought!!
I have found that Alan wrenches seem to be decent dotting tools as well. At least for beginners. They are cheap and can get in a wide range of sizes. Even though they are hexagon shaped, they make pretty decent dots.
Just started watching your channel...this video was extremely helpful thank you. I purchased dollar store acrylic paint and it seems to be cracking when it dries. I also have tried the student grade heavy body paint and it leaves a huge bump so when I put the second dot on it really doesn't look nice. I'm going to see if I can steal hubby's drill set. Thank you so much for your videos.
I thin my to0-thick paints with Golden Fluid acrylics mixed in, that way I don't lose color. They don't crack when dry, even when I use the blower drier.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Wich brand would you recommend for ceramics, please ? I bought Folkart multi-surfaces but they're thick and it's not possible to add a medium according to Plaid. Thank you in advance for your help. In Europe, we don't have all your materials.
Kristin, I love, love, love your tutorials which have inspired me to lay in the supplies. I notice you use Painters Touch Satin Clear spray which is twice to 3 times as expensive as American Accents. Is there a real difference for price?
Great information. I must dash out and buy some drill bits.....they look so effective. I've been having a go since I last posted a comment, and I'm truly addicted! I already had in my stash some Dylusions acrylic paints which I've been using to good affect. They are nice and fluid and come in very vibrant colours. You may want to try them. Thank you for all of your tutorials
what a great video!! thanks soo much for the info. I did know a lot of this already but it's soo nice that you made this. soo informative! I wish I had this was I was looking through videos for help!
May seem like a silly question...but where do you get your rocks? We don't have that type around here and I have tried the big box home improvement stores, but no such luck! Thanks

Hello, you mentioned that the curved-bristle brush is very hard to find, and after spending quite a bit of time searching the web, I have found this to be the case. Where did you finally come across one?
The set was my husband's old set and new I think they are around 50$. BUT, if you watch part two of the tools and tips, you'll see I found a much less expensive alternative in acrylic crochet hooks that you can buy on Amazon that work just as well as the drill bits.
The curved brush was from Michaels in a sale bin. I suspect is was accidentally bent...so I am trying to duplicate it using both synthetic and natural bristles and boiling water. I will let everyone know how it goes!
I have had great results painting on black bristol board or heavy (88 lb) sketch paper, just have to spray matte varnish first to keep it from being absorbent
Hello Kristin! Thank you for these wonderful videos. They are very informative and inspiring. Would you please tell me do you spray both sides of your rock with the clear sealant? If you do, which side do you spray first?
Great question. yes, I spray both sides on the rock and I always do the back side first. The reason? The paint dots on the front will soften when you apply the clear spray acrylic. They will harden again as the rock dries, and be good to go if you allow it to dry over night. So, if you sprayed the front side first and then turned it over, you would risk either flattening your dots or causing them to crack, or even peel off.
I have tried it your way but sometimes the paint gets stuck on the paper (drop cloth) and when I turn the rock it peels off. (Very upsetting.) Do you think it is because I am not allowing the paint to dry long enough?
Most likely. It could also be the temperature/ humidity which greatly varies the drying time. You can also use pieces of wax paper underneath your rock to help the painted side release.
Humidity & temp are a big factor for me I live in FL. I actually have been using wax paper since my last comment and it has helped. Thank you for your last video of the large mandala canvas. It was very informative! Have a beautiful day!
Love the drill bits my dad‘s gonna laugh when I have all the drillbits covered in paint!💕🌈💕🌈

LOL. Awesome!!!! Kmumom@aol.com
Hey! I emailed you 2 days ago from my Tabascopeppers email. I included the pictures from our painting event last Saturday. Did you get my email?
I was surprised too :D
Thank you I learnt a lot from this tutorial and it was easy to listen to.

I'm utterly new to this and so was looking for household bits and bobs to dot with - I use my husband's drill bits - I thought I was so clever!
I love the dog on the background.
Thank you for sharing your talent.
This is something I want to try!!! I'm not an artist, but for personal pleasure. The video was great, but the dog was the best part!
He is a total goofball. I find his hair everywhere, so I have to REALLY check my table and wet canvas for stray dog hairs! Ha HA!
Спасибо Kristin. Очень красиво !!!!! Я тоже начала пробывать заниматься такой росписью. Вы мой учитель !!
perché non fate le traduzioni in italiano per favore

You are correct about the Alan wrenches!
This video was really helpful for my kit that I got for birthday present
Hello, how are you feeling today
Aww,I like that Husky,I have one of that crazy , adorable dogs.
So helpful!

Cathy Tully try adding 1% white glue, 1% water mix then add 1% paint & mix paint won't crack & I use dollar store stuff. Hopefully it works for you .
I thin my to0-thick paints with Golden Fluid acrylics mixed in, that way I don't lose color. They don't crack when dry, even when I use the blower drier.
kkb hmmm nsnn sass not jkl
Sue M when you say "1percent glue" and "1 percent water".. What do you mean? What is or how do you get "one percent water"? I dont understand
Gina, I think this might mean 1 PART glue to 1 part water, e.g. 1teaspoon glue to 1teaspoon water and 1teaspoon of paint :)
Thanks for sharing your knowledge on tools. X
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Wich brand would you recommend for ceramics, please ? I bought Folkart multi-surfaces but they're thick and it's not possible to add a medium according to Plaid.
Thank you in advance for your help. In Europe, we don't have all your materials.
Very helpful, thank you.

You are welcome, and I am always searching for tools and paints,...and nice rocks, of course. Ha!
Completely agree with using Dyan’s paints! They work beautifully!!
Hahaha i can NoT take my attention off of this puppy on the back!!! So cute
what a great video!! thanks soo much for the info. I did know a lot of this already but it's soo nice that you made this. soo informative! I wish I had this was I was looking through videos for help!
Have you ever done a video on the types of paints you use and why?
I'm new to your videos and I love the way you explain what you are so good at thank you
Welcome, Sandra!!!
Thank you very much for your knowledge.
Hello, how are you feeling today
May seem like a silly question...but where do you get your rocks? We don't have that type around here and I have tried the big box home improvement stores, but no such luck! Thanks
Thank you so much Kristin for this video, I’ve watched it now three times, this last time I took screenshots, lol.
Btw, Happy Mothers Day 😊
Hello, how are you feeling today
Thank you. I’m new and that was so informative. I took notes.
Hi. Loved your video. Where can you find assorted shaker pegs, I am only finding packs of all the same size? Thanks.
Thanks for the tips because I paint seashells and I do dots on them as well....
I’m going to try your technic on my seashells art....
And other stuff where did you buy your paint....
Hello, you mentioned that the curved-bristle brush is very hard to find, and after spending quite a bit of time searching the web, I have found this to be the case. Where did you finally come across one?
Hello, how are you feeling today
Great tips. Thank you!
What an excellent idea . I'll raid my husband's nails and pinch some.
Hello, how are you feeling today
Thank you Kristin for awesome video and sharing your experience. Could you please tell how much was the price of craftsman drill?
The set was my husband's old set and new I think they are around 50$. BUT, if you watch part two of the tools and tips, you'll see I found a much less expensive alternative in acrylic crochet hooks that you can buy on Amazon that work just as well as the drill bits.
I'd love to know which Craftsman drill bit set you tested.
Hello, how are you feeling
Thanks for such a helpful video!
Hi Kristin I love your videos can you tell me where you got the bent tip brush. You are so helpful please keep them coming.
The curved brush was from Michaels in a sale bin. I suspect is was accidentally bent...so I am trying to duplicate it using both synthetic and natural bristles and boiling water. I will let everyone know how it goes!
Thank you for letting me know do you know what brand it was and let me know how the boiling water goes you have a great day
Boiling water worked great on a synthetic bristle brush.
You mentioned the black rock was painted black matte. It looks shiny to me. Could you confirm?
Hello, how are you
I have had great results painting on black bristol board or heavy (88 lb) sketch paper, just have to spray matte varnish first to keep it from being absorbent
Great info on supplies. I too was looking for the curved paint brush. Where did you find it? What brand and size so I can search for it. Thanks!
what do you use to clean the tools after using them? Love these vidoes!!
Hello, how are you feeling today
Kristin i did the peacock rock of urs and it came so good. I mentioned u in my fb too. thanks u.
So happy to hear this!
Hello Kristin! Thank you for these wonderful videos. They are very informative and inspiring. Would you please tell me do you spray both sides of your rock with the clear sealant? If you do, which side do you spray first?

Humidity & temp are a big factor for me I live in FL. I actually have been using wax paper since my last comment and it has helped.

Deat Kristin,
I would like to know where I can buy the tools that you use in your video! Many thanks in advance

I love your dog!! lol
Beautiful ur demo dear
Is there a quality difference with the pearlized paints? You didn't specify like you did with the solid color paints. Thanks!
