God, the last one is gutwrenching. Makes me feel sick. It would have probably been a good addition, it adds more context, but I'm almost glad it wasn't there... poor Dominic went through enough on screen...
And I'm glad they didn't leave the second to last one in. It makes Pádraic look like such a jerk, much more than he was in the actual movie. It wouldn't have really fit with his character and his relationship to Siobhan imo.

Not a jerk...he was just so discomforted..knee jerk reaction...She's his Pillar

Pádraic being a jerk beneath the surface is certainly in the film - his first question to Siobhan when she announces her departure is "What about me?" - but a scene like that, in such a serious point in the film, would've been too on-the-nose and ridiculous.

@@siphillis Yeah spot on with this. On my first watch I thought he started being a jerk toward the end, but on my second watch I noticed he's really not a nice guy throughout. But it's more subtle in the beginning and this scene may have given it away too quickly

Very rare to find scenes that are just as good as anything thats in the movie. The overgrown graveyard is a stunning image - all those souls that lived and died and never left the Island.

I think that last scene is probably just too grim - notice the blood spots on the sheet. Also, I like not knowing where Dom gets the "touche" so the audience is just as surprised as Padraic and Siobbhan

I can't quite understand what Dominic says. Can anyone translate for me? (Embarrassing when a decent portion of my ancestors came from Ireland. 🙄)

That last bit is just fucking infuriating to even know that it exists. The movie was both funny and depressing, smothering even. But that bit is just fucking enraging to me

Whoa. I can only handle this movie in two minutes regardless so thanks for sharing. That Barry Keoghan is a fine actor and I look forward to more from him. Absolutely need to see him IRL though just to see him smile.

Looks like beating to me with all the blood and bruises, the man was naked in another scene too he just doesn't wear other clothes than his uniform, but it is open to interpretation I guess.

@@gracentumba3750 No molesting him that’s why he’s taking his belt from the bed post and that’s why there’s blood on the sheets - from penetration. This scene is too dark and I’m glad they cut it

To me it looked like he had been tied to the bed with the belt because it was in a loop on the post, still could have been either a beating or worse though 😢

2:31 I think this scene should have been kept in the film. Now I can understand more why Siobhan left him and decided to leave their home for the city.

    • @fergalhughes165
      @fergalhughes165 Год назад +1

She left the island for the mainland (the librarian job in Lisdoonvarna, a real place out in Connemara), not the city.
Although it's implied that moving to the mainland is a step up socially, so I can understand why you'd think it was a move to the city.
Island -> Mainland is v similar to:
Rural -> Urban .. both are seen as 'a step up'

@@ajifajriana1533 Yep, also by keeping that scene the concept of Padraic's niceness wouldn't have made sense.

She left because she was lonely - there was no one on the island she wanted for a husband.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to hang around with Colin Farrell either. He'd always make it about himself.
