@@kadonyt7518 Some people are already playing their best and can’t really go further. Other people get tilted by the taunt, which causes them to lose focus and get impatient. Not everyone can go hardcore mode on command simply from a taunt, especially not like HBox does. Some people also just play casually and don’t really care too much about taunts.
@@Skyetendo_I’m one of those people. It’s hard to describe. This may sound corny but it like literally unlocks an ultra-instinct pry of my brain. It’s not that I get angry, it just becomes an extreme motivator for wanting to win. I’ve beaten people objectively better than me due to taunting or due to the insult of playing disrespectfully because they are up and think they have it in the bag.
@@someordinarydude9147 I taunt or t-bag sometimes not because I think I’m doing better than them or something, but to purposely tilt them and get them to mess up. Usually only if the match is really tense though.

Smash is the one game where I’ve never understood getting angry at Taunts. Like I taunt after I kill someone in a 1v1 because 1 i’m waiting for them to respond and 2 you almost never get to see taunts so it’s fun to do something other than run around
Put simply, it’s an unspoken insult to a lot of people, like they’re being mocked and told that they suck.
I personally get annoyed by most taunts for that reason myself. Of course, some exceptions apply, like a funny interaction between two moves or using the same move as someone else at the same time.
Don’t forget, it’s called a TAUNT for a reason. In a game where positioning is really important, sitting still and telling your opponent the equivalent of “too easy” is a simple way to piss them off.
People who play exclusively to have fun will likely disagree with everything I’ve written, but more competitive players like myself tend to see it as disrespectful in 90% of scenarios.
