Laniakea Space Jam | How big is it really? -

  • I recorded a jam with the Magerit Laniakea. I googled a bit about where the name comes from, read the Wiki and ended up at the edge of the Universe. 6000 years ago, people needed to trust their imagination to explain how this all came to be - which became one of the most successful stories of all time. A few hundred years ago people believed the Earth was the center of it all, surrounded by nine hollow spheres. Only a hundred years ago people were not aware of any galaxies far, far away. Recently, people discovered the Universe is twice as old as previously believed. And Laniakea is a supercluster containing 100.000 galaxies, which is a lot, but still nothing compared to the 200 billion in the observable universe. So it's quite amazing how a module's name allows you to travel to space, time and history. The music is just a soundtrack for a day well spent.
Warning, if you still believe the entire creation is 6.000 years old, this may be a video to skip. And the Earth is not flat, but the Universe may still be 3D.
    Have a great day!
Due to copyright reasons I need to include that parts of this video were made with Space Engine Pro for which I use a licensed copy. The Pro version allows you to use screen recordings in your own work. Highly recommended if you love space travel!

My own Laniakea module went entirely out of control these days. Instead of spacey opera, it produces something like "Throbbing Gristle meets outdated dishwasher". Well, this reads more sexy as it actually sounds. I'll try to get back the spheric soul of Laniakea, the module that made me build up my first humble Eurorack. - Thank you for your sounds and thoughts, by the way, as well as for the pleasant typography.

It happened to me too, but the latest firmware is stable.

@@CinematicLaboratory The latest firmware is installed. Well, maybe it's me, after all. I've tried Odessa lately, and it feels like Laniakea on speed on the one, on downers on the other side. This is what makes the modular synthesis for me.

I guess you like Versios then.. The Virt Iter packs a lot into such a small package, don't you think? Fascinating piece and video, as always.. 😊

@@bryanBZ Well, that's going to be GRAND! Don't care too much about what Laniakea is doing, set Desmodus to shimmer mode (top switch to the right) and just play the knobs for a while. I think I'd set Clouds to the clocked delay mode for this.

Every 10 minutes or so, my laniakea will make a crazy lound sound as if the exciter has just been hit by a comet. Way louder than its drones. I really wish i knew how to fix it. Ive updated it, but i read that you can get it back to factory settings. I need to try that because it messes up alot of recordings. I love the module besides that tho

With issues like this you may need to contact Magerit directly but I remember having these issues too when I first got the module. After updating I now hardly hear the exciter anymore. I stopped worrying about it and just use whatever comes out because I am more like a westcoast person looking for happy accidents.

The Laniakea has always been a bit of a black box mystery to me. Which is to say I can't really make the same sound again later. But it's well worth the HP.
p.s. I do have a Per|former ;-) My interest in Metron is mostly that elusive UI that I can't be without.

IC! Indeed it's a great user interface, but I still need to figure out the deeper functions of Metron. It's a bit sad. I figured out quite a bit of Tukra but only used Metron's basic function. As for Laniakea, it's still unpredictable here too :).

@@CinematicLaboratory I wonder if the Metron expanders get the matching new buttons? And if it will be losing the WMD branding soon.
