Homelander's speech was pure genius on the character's part, and exceptional acting by the actor. So so amazing. You see why people love him and also terrified by him because we know the truth.
It’s like watching Julius Caesar, but from both his troops and Cicero/the senate’s perspective. Artful genius achieving terrible greed and cruelty with all the later crimes done to cover up ones that got you to the top in the first place.

He couldnt take those people out there fast enought is his arms as well, if he flyed you off at the speed necessary to take everyone, your skin is going to melt, he would have to fly at a reduced speed, he could maybe take just as much as they can carry in a single trip and that was it. What i am saying is that even if he was a good guy, he couldnt do shit there. He couldnt catch a person falling of a building either without riping then in half.
That plane scene is so goddamn intense .. Anthony Starr is the MVP of this show !!. I like Starlight and Hughie’s relationship , I would probably criticize that maybe he’s fallen for her too fast but then so have I so I can’t lol. This episode really humanize’s Frenchie and his dynamic with The Female is sweet
I think all of the superheroes have a base of super strength. Some are just stronger than others, but they are all stronger, physically than normal humans
Translucent seemed to be about human normal - his punches didn't seem to hurt Butcher much more than any guy his size would. Hard to tell with Black Noir. The rest have super strength to varying degrees though.
It’s hard to tell.. Translucent picked Hughie off the ground & threw him across the room. I don’t think normal humans can really do that, but the show makers probably took certain liberties to make the story flow better.
@@saxxyJ Yeah, could be it's just inconsistent then. Butcher got hit full-on several times before he could even put up any sort of guard so if Translucent had super strength i'd expect much more damage than from your average bar fight. But he does indeed throw Hughie too, so some leeway.
@@saxxyJ Hughie probably weighs 140lbs, you don't have to be a bodybuilder to lift that up with both arms and throw it, you just have to be very physically fit with strong upper body strength as someone who fights crime daily would be.
Homelander made sense in why he couldn’t save them. He has Superman powers but he isn’t Superman also. He’s just lazy af and could’ve easily killed the last terrorist with his hands instead of using heat vision and wrecking the control panel. Antony Starr made this scene a lot better than how it was in the comics as well.
No days off Nah he could have saved some of them. His first priority was public image rather than lives. His demeanor was nonchalant and carefree like the decision to leave these people didn’t mean anything to him. He literally threatened to laser the passengers. It wouldn’t have been so bad if he’d explained the situation and had witnesses he saved, while being contrite and remorseful for not being able to save everyone.
There's an argument to be made that Homelander wrecked the controls deliberately IMO. Both he and Maeve are bullet proof so he wouldn't have a "startle response" to having a gun pointed at him and he also has much faster than human reflexes. There're about 20 ways he could've ended it differently in other words. Personally I think he knew that a horrific tragedy sways public opinion much more than a great save.
I love that homelander acknowledged a problem with super strength, surface tension. If he applies too much pressure to an object over a small area than he will go through it. I.e. he would go through the plane if he tried to lift it. It would be impossible to lift large objects like cars because his arm would go through it.
I will say this after every reaction. They now need to watch "Banshee" cause they need to see more Antony Starr (Homelander). also Banshee has some of the best fighting scenes in all of filmography imo

Like Shane said, you have to be superstrong by default to be able to do some of the stunts superheros do anyway, so yes, all of them have some level of super strength! I was so happy hearing a Black Sails name drop there, glad the series is still in your hearts.

Watching interviews with the cast, Antony Starr who plays Homelander really seems to love playing the role, he was also great in Banshee but his performance on this show is on another level.
@Unincognito Can't speak for Antony Starr's US accent but as someone from the UK, I have to say Karl Urban doesn't do a great job with Butcher's accent - not the worst i've heard but not good either. He's still great in the role though.

I think you are supposed to understand that all of the 7 have super strength, but at varying degrees and with specialties. Maybe minus Translucent, since his superpower is being invisible and having skin that can't be pierced.
Yeah, superhuman strength and/or durability is a necessary prerequisite of many superpowers (flight, superspeed etc.), otherwise they'd die just by using their powers. In the same way, Starlight is probably immune or at least very resistant to some/all kinds of radiation. Translucent doesn't seem to hurt Butcher more than a normal punch would though so he likely didn't have it.

I’ve been waiting to see you guys reaction to the airplane scene. That was, hands down, one of the most intense gut wrenching moments in a superhero show or movie. I loved it.
The airplane scene actually made me cry. I have a fear of flying and so that really dosent help but I've never had an issue watching airplane scenes in movies. This show... holy fuck. And that scene with the girl ripping the guts out of the guy and then the other dude shooting himself in the head made me nauseous. I almost threw up. Words cant describe how well done this show is. I mean seriously. I'm still watching the show slowly, haven't seen past this episode so no spoilers please
My favorite TV show... My favorite episode... That airplane scene was the greatest "real-life" superhero "rescue" scene I've ever seen on film. In real life even someone with flight and super-strength can NOT lift an airplane of that size.Try balancing the weight of that airplane onto the tip of something like a telephone pole. What's gonna happen? The pole goes right through it. Plain and simple. Superman has a Kryptonian aura that "plot devices" that problem when he lifts a plane. And the dolphin scene was fucking glorious! I don't even have to say anything else about it.

The airplane scene actually made me cry. I have a fear of flying and so that really dosent help but I've never had an issue watching airplane scenes in movies. This show... holy fuck. And that scene with the girl ripping the guts out of the guy and then the other dude shooting himself in the head made me nauseous. I almost threw up. Words cant describe how well done this show is. I mean seriously. I'm still watching the show slowly, haven't seen past this episode so no spoilers please

That airplane scene was the greatest "real-life" superhero "rescue" scene I've ever seen on film. In real life even someone with flight and super-strength can NOT lift an airplane of that size.Try balancing the weight of that airplane onto the tip of something like a telephone pole. What's gonna happen? The pole goes right through it. Plain and simple. Superman has a Kryptonian aura that "plot devices" that problem when he lifts a plane.
And the dolphin scene was fucking glorious! I don't even have to say anything else about it.
Took me a minute at first to realize that Homelander is Anthony Star from Banshee but yeah agreed he is great in this show
