It seems pointless to me to change a character's race for the sake of diversity. If diversity is so important than use chracters that are already of different race. If the character is Asian use an Asian person for the roll. if the character is black character use a black person for the roll. I'm super excited for Iron Fist, but I guess I just find it irritating that people are complaining that a white person was used to play the roll of a white person. From what I've seen so far we have some diversity already. Luke Cage is black, Claire is latina, Danny's friend/ally is Asian, and Danny Rand is white. I'm super stoked for Iron Fist!

I'm pretty sure between people being stupid about him being white most of the complaints were that the first 6 episodes were boring, but all the Marvel Netflix series started slow with more character building than super powers. I hope the second half is epic, I will be disappointed if the second half is boring.
well that was exactly as predicted. slow 5 episodes followed by an epic second half. it's not as good as the other Marvel Netflix series but they're all amazing so it's hard to compare. I'm annoyed by the writing though, they make Danny out to be a bit of a dick and although there are some good fights he should be easily kicking the ass of random henchmen.

I remember reading short versions of the Iron Fist stories in the back of martial arts magazines back in the early 80s. He was the first Marvel hero I got into. Until I saw the comic panel still at the top of this video, I completely forgot about the 2nd person narrator format of those old comics! Man, I loved that! It was so unique among comics, really pulled my 11 year old self into the story!

Okay, he's white for a reason! Marvel already had a Asian Kung Fu hero Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu that was popular when Iron Fist was pitched. The belief is Marvel wouldn't allow for two nearly identical heroes in two books. So Iron Fist was changed to Caucasian Danny Rand to differentiate him. By the way, Marvel still own the rights to Shang-Chi, he is Asian, and he actually fits the Netflix marvel-verse BETTER than Iron Fist. He has no powers and is just a master martial artist. His "costume" is a fancified martial arts uniform that can easily be toned down for TV. In fact, I would like to see Netflix consider bringing him to life in his own series after the Defenders. (I was a big fan in the 70's!)

The belief is Marvel wouldn't allow for two nearly identical heroes in two books. So Iron Fist was changed to Caucasian Danny Rand to differentiate him. By the way, Marvel still own the rights to Shang-Chi, he is Asian, and he actually fits the Netflix marvel-verse BETTER than Iron Fist. He has no powers and is just a master martial artist. His "costume" is a fancified martial arts uniform that can easily be toned down for TV. In fact, I would like to see Netflix consider bringing him to life in his own series after the Defenders. (I was a big fan in the 70's!)
Fucking love Iron Fist and I can't wait for it. For anyone who legitimately thinks Iron Fist is should have been Asian then that's worse than the whole concept of "white saviour" cause not every martial arts hero needs to be asian. Good casting of an Asian is in Inhumans where Karnak and Triton are Asian. Not all Asians need to be smart or good in martial arts.
