Yes, they did influence Slipknot. There is a lot going on in Mr. Bungle songs, it can be hard to take in one listen. There are many better songs from them, but they are exceptionally weird, which I personally love.

I get that Mr Bungle is not for everyone, but I think you should give another chance because their every album is different from another, this first album was some weird funky circus metal. Try something from California album like Retrovertigo which is a great song.
And you are right Mr Bungle has influenced Slipknot and Korn as well.

Dude, that's Mike Patton the singer of Faith No More's first band, even before he joined faith no more. You started out with the wrong song--try Carousel--his vocal genius is more clear there. It's still a difficult band to get into.

I’m sure it’s been said already, but the singer (Mike Patton) has the largest vocal range in the history of popular music. Larger than Mariah Carey, Axl Rose, etc. Patton has a ton of projects with different styles. Bungle is very wild. One band that you’ve done already that (probably to your surprise) was HUGELY influenced by Patton and Mr. Bungle was Incubus. Brandon Boyd very much copied his voice from Patton. If you listen to “Strip Search” by Patton’s band Faith No More, it’s damn near indistinguishable from an Incubus song in the vocals.

Lol, no it’s not. The first album is obnoxious as hell with a lot of unnecessarily long loud outros and dumb shit for shock value, and I don’t know why people recommend this song to reactors all the time.
      Carousel
      Stubb (A Dub)
      Dead Goon
Are the best songs on the album and also the least obnoxious. At least the creepy clown laughter part in Carousel is interesting and adds to the song compared to whatever the fuck the outro to this was.
Disco Volante and California are much better albums musically and Disco Volante definitely does the ‘this is weird as fuck’ vibe more effectively than anything on this album which is mostly noise and a lot of yelling, with some glimmers of brilliance.

Thanks for the laugh! I totally get your white people comment. All through the late 80s and the 90s, there was a lot of music like this in the "alt" scene.
Ive thought that it could be the result of musicians tired of the standards of music, lyrics and subject matter.
My dad had a friend that literall had/has an entire house full of...room after room...vinyl of every imaginable kind of music.
He exposed me to so much different music when I was young, and was always making mix tapes for my dad that I copy.
On one hand, I had the music he had shared, but also listened to the 80s rock, soul, blues, jazz and classical music ( I was in band through school and into college).
By the time I got out of high school, I was sick of all the same types of music that were popular....so this, "white guy" 😉, ended up seeking out something...anything new or different.
Between weed, drugs, and being in my 20s and the scenes in the 90s, Id listen to anything...including this type of chaotic, distorted, performance music. There were musicians experimenting with every sort of music, and believe it or not, here in austin, everyone...."black, white, brown and yellow guys" got in on the scene... Rock, jazz, rap, hip hop, even classical, electronica, industrial, dance and even traditional musics from around the world.
Parties and raves with crazy line ups of diverging musics being mixed and shared...a dj, a classical pianist, a tabla player, a steel guitarist a tuba...all on stage jamming.
It was chaos and order blended into one, great musicians looking for new sounds beats and rhythms.

Not that I have Anything against Rebecca Black as a person, but you saying that you would Willingly listen to thousand times more of Mr.Bungle to avoid ever hearing Friday earned this video a Like from me XDD
I mean, the amount of horror in your face at some points said it all - this song and video is the representation of True Horror, as in a person slowly looses his mind along to an avant-garde metal piece. Truly exceptional.
Oh, and to add something others havent mentioned yet about Slipknot being influenced by this band, Slipknots First "first" album was released in 1996, and In it, as well as all the demos and whatevers surrounding it, were quite noticeable traces of avant-garde experiments, and some of them were quite cool, but overall the album was Nowhere near as Wild as the debut of Mr. Bungle. Couple that with the fact the "original" 9 members hadnt been even assembled yet (that happened in 1998, I believe) to explain that originally the influence was equally represented through both music and theatrics.
Not that the influence couldnt be spotted anywhere else once the Group of people we associate with the Real Slipknot was in full force - the self titled album has a number of fast paced dives into unhinged frustrations that turn into psychotic eruptions of taunts to push the willingly hysterical adrenaline factory one more time, and those alone feel like an evolution of the idea Mr. Bungle presented before, so rather than copy them, Slipknot finally found a way to show their influence by Complimenting their idols.

  • @YuYu-ci4qm
    @YuYu-ci4qm 3 года назад +1

This is from their first album, and most of the songs on this album are similar and can be immature and overstay their welcome, and this is coming from a huge Mr. Bungle fan.
There are about 3 songs that are worth reacting to from this album:
    Carousel
    Stubb (A Dub)
    Dead Goon
That’s about it. There are other good songs but they’re sprinkled with nonsensical loud yelling and people banging on doors and other weird shit that doesn’t work for me.
The next 2 albums are some of the best albums of all time in my opinion. If you thought ‘wtf is this’, then the stuff in their 2nd album would blow your mind, but in a good way. Gone is the immaturity and obnoxious attitude, and what’s replaced is some really brilliant avant-garde music that makes you think and respect just how talented these guys are, because the shit they do is not easy or simple, especially live.

Got you perfectly - not your taste! ;) True, true..But, check this out - remember I told you that Faith No More are extremely versatile?... Well, Mr.Bungle are - versatile beyond the expectaton! :))) The thing is: among 100 songs, you just had to pick this one!...Rookies don`t like it, fans like it, so what.:) It`s just one of their manifestations, one of many (crazy) others.:) If FNM changes genres on different songs, MR.B changes bunch of them - within a single song! I mean, it`s wild, it crazy...you only had a bad luck picking a song that`s out of your taste on this one.:) Yea, they goof themselves, they look like a mad-men on stage, but that`s just an acting to animate audience, did it in the early career. ;) They make fun on human taboos and such, sex, death, violence, science, philosophy, giving it a less credit they had gotten in modern term of sense, you know - purging through fire, through an (organised!) musical chaos, with a circus iconography, since - the world is like a circus, dah! :D They take and give a lot amount of energy to people, it`s intense, but at the end - it`s somehow catharsic. :) Therefore - the carnival, the masks!:) And you`re wrong, dude - they did it waaaaay before Slipknot, in the early 90`s.:) In fact, Slipknot stealed this right from them! In a cheap way, if you ask me...Because, this band....is composed of a musical geniuses on their instruments, including the phenomenal singer Mike Patton! :) You said it yourself - the bass line! Now, imagine some musical genre you like, lets say, funk, soul, hip-hop-groovalistic-psychedelic shit.:) What, you think Mr.Bungle didn`t handle it? WrOng! D Yes, they did...they did>:)))) So, instead of reacting to My ass...blahblah, maybe even Jizzlober over there, right...? I could only agree with visitor E.T. who suggested you to listen to the other song of Mr. Bungle called - Squeeze Me Macaroni ! :D And you`ll get just what you needed in here. Some of the craziest funk melodies I ever heard, yeah - with brass and everything, and the fastest rapping also, dude !:D Go there, go...with the flow. :D Not a wrong band, wrong song, that`s all. Try me and E.T.`s choice! Don`t give up on them, they are fantastic, you`ll see....And if you want a pure funk-soul gold, listen to theirs "The Girls of Porn"...Yeah, what a title! :)) But the bass, pop-singing, groovy disco-drums....surprisingly `normally structured` song of theirs...You`ll be wondering is it the same band in the first place!..... They`re magical! Believe! :D

Everybody always wants channels to react to this one just to fuck with them it seems like. It sucks because this is a really tough intro to the band and tends to turn people off. There are some way more accessible songs on California that you might actually like. Still weird but way more listenable. I would go with Retrovertigo or Air Conditioned Nightmare. If that doesn't work for you, just stick with the Faith No More or maybe try some Tomahawk.

Actually I requested this song because it's one of my favorite Bungle songs, there wasn't any more thought put into it than that so you shou;dn't assume it's just to fuck with someone, I wanted a reaction to this song because I freakin love it that's all

Primus might be an influence, along with pretty much every other genre out there. I like Primus, but Bungle and Patton's career cannot even be compared to the one-note of Primus.

They asked Frank Zappa to manage them, he said no. Then later said it was the biggest mistake of his career. Mike Patton is one of the greatest vocalists of our time his range is insane. You probably would know him from his most known song Epic with Faith no more. One if the first rap/rock crossovers to be done.
