I just finished watching the Netflix series. I read virtually all of Christopher Pike's YA novels in the late-nineties, and the two that stuck with me the most are the Starlight Crystal and the Last Vampire - I still think of these two stories a few times every year!
For nearly 2 decades, I had been hoping Pike's novels would be adapted into live-action TV shows, but as time went on, I started to accept that wasn't going to happen. When I heard about this Netflix adaptation last year, I was so excited and kept checking for news throughout 2022.
I am not at all disappointed with this live-action adaptation. Immediately, I don't remember much about this novel other than its main plot points because it's been over 20 years. Thus, I truly appreciate this video that serves as a reminder for me. Thank you and take care!

Thank you so much for your comment, I love hearing from fellow Pike fans. I had no idea we would get such a great adaptation with so many of his books involved. Like you, I was definitely not disappointed. I will have to get to the Starlight Crystal and the Last Vampire, somehow those are two I have never read! I still think of Pike stories too, even 20+ years later! 😊📚

Very interesting regarding the back story of the book. It sounds like they paid homage to the roots of how this book came to be by having the group tell Pike's other stories during their meetings. I was all set to watch the show and then noticed the episode titles so I decided to wait because while I did read Midnight Club recently, I hadn't re-read any of the other books since I was a teen. It made me think that I should re-read those books before watching the series.
My favorite Pike book when I was a teen was Weekend. I read that one at least twice. I do want to read it again soon because I don't really remember what happened but I do have fond memories of reading it when I was growing up.

I can’t believe I failed to mention Weekend! I loved that one too. What a great teen horror that was. I’m desperate to reread or read more Pike now. I think you’d probably appreciate it even more if you reread the other adapted books, because although I could remember some of them I had no real basis for comparison on the others. May have to have a Pike project and then a rewatch! So good to hear from a fellow Pike reader- thanks for your comment. 😊

I am a huge fan of Christopher Pike. I have read all of his books that I could get my hands on. This one , Remember me and The Last Vampire are my favourites.
The Midnight Club was really enjoyable and the music reminded me of being a teenager.

Thank you for covering this show and book. Pike doesn't get enough love. Even though I am very sad that the show got canceled, what we got was beautiful. Flanagan was lovely enough to write a lengthy post on what would have happened in the second season revealing what the mysteries were which was bittersweet. It breaks my heart that there are so few videos on youtube talking about the show or Pike in general. I'm very happy I came across your video.
Also it’s funny that you mentioned the past lives was dropped. It wasn’t. They dropped hints and it would have been revealed that they were in fact sharing past lives

I love Pike’s books and have been reading some more of them lately. I would have liked to have seen some of my favourites adapted into more mini-stories in another series, I’m very disappointed it has been cancelled. I’ve just read the post and I would have really liked to see through everyone’s stories. I was mistaken about the past lives, I just felt it had been the main aspect of the book and much less obvious in the tv show that that was what was happening. Thanks for your comment, I’m glad there are other Pike fans out there!

@@AliceandtheGiantBookshelf I’ve always felt that sometimes Pike can get a little distracted with the new age stuff sometimes. I hope you will make the exception and talk about more Pike books considering they wouldn’t bring in many views.
Maybe we’ll see a Remember Me adaptation as It would have been the main mini story in season 2. Flanagan said this is his favorite Pike book. So maybe one day.

@@Arroyo2099 I agree on the new age stuff. I did talk about Pike a bit recently when I bought four of his books in a charity shop, but if I collect a few more of his including some of my old favourites I will definitely make a video on his books.
I think Remember Me was the first Pike book I read and it certainly got my attention and made me read more!

The background to the book is pretty heart breaking! 😢 Great that they set it in the 90s. I will give it a try even though I never really read any Christopher Pike (that I can remember!) though I remember how popular his books were!

Would definitely recommend it as a series, I think without a background of reading Pike it’s mostly just an enjoyable spooky season watch, although obviously it has some very sad content. The background is so sad.

That story behind the book is so so sad 😢
It’s cool that the adaptation incorporates other Pike books.
    It actually sounds quite good!

Genuinely think it was decent series and really enjoyable (despite the subject matter) for 90% of it! The adaptations of the other Pike books were really well done. Would recommend the series, the jump scares calm down after episode 1! 😂
And yes, the story behind the book is just devastating. 😢

I heard Imani Benson (Ivanka) read the book on Aufdible , and saw the show, which was better , I think . Thank God they got rid of the past lives, and kept the characters alive, rather than killing them all off, as in the book/

Everything about this was so amateurish and dumb that I have to hate it. The ending ruined the whole thing for me. Now I regret watching it.
